Which fighters do you think could have done so much more, But were severly handicapped by mismanagement?

By others or by themselves?By others, Fighter who otherwise gave it thier all, but thier management didn't have the fighters best interest at heart.

Could Mark Breland have gone alot further with a different manager? Or did his stalled career have more to do with him?

Definitely Gerry Cooney the guy could of made it!

The powers that be wanted a money spinning white fighter - [champion was optional]

He had it all, the height, strength, natural talent, speed, the punch, the smarts, EXTREME marketability, but he still never made it!

The problem was put perfectly by his trainer for the foreman fight, Gil Clancy. He said in the early stages they never let him fight anyone and Conney knew this, this caused Cooney to doubt his abilitys.

Secondly was the timing for the holmes fight. Cooney had never been over 8 rounds and they put him in a 15 round title fight with an ATG, wtf???????He needed more experience in going long into a fight!

Third he wasn't trained right. He fought like a pure puncher, but if Victor Valle would of taught him to box, he could of morphed into a superb box/puncher. I believe what ray arcel said, after the holmes fight he looked across the ring and thought of Louis - Schmeling; believing Cooney could have revenge like the brown bomber. But sadly he never made it, he was one of the biggest wastes in boxing history.

It's only hindsight that serves me, but Davey Moore. Howard Davis too missed some opportunity.

Maybe Amir Khan?

Time will tell a bit more on that one, perhaps.

Maybe Amir Khan?

Time will tell a bit more on that one, perhaps.Khan was originally the WBO mandatory for Nate Campbell's 135 lb title but Frank ****** turned down the opportunity to fight the champ and Khan was ko'd by Prescott. Guzman was placed ahead of Khan in the mandatory slot in exchange for his 130 lb crown but got cold feet just before the fight.

Had Khan lost to Campbell, fans would have given him credibility because he lost to the champ. Instead he opted to lose to Prescott and the world thinks nothing of him anymore.

Leon Spinks perhaps.

He was moved ludicrously fast and then overmatched against much bigger foes.He wasn't a natural Heavyweight imo but when he finally grew into the division in the mid 80's he drops back down to Cruiserweight and gets absolutely butchered by Qawi because he was absolutely dead at the weight.

I'm not sure how much of this is his managements fault and how much was Leon's.I've a feeling Spinks probably didn't always listen to the advice he was given.

I agree. Time will tell on this. Maybe this will just be a hiccup in an illustrious career.

@ first I didn't understand y maskaev , but this reminded me .
Debutting vs 21-0 Miroschnichenko was not something Riddick Bowe or Lennox Lewis would have wished 4 themselves either .

It's only hindsight that serves me, but Davey Moore. Howard Davis too missed some opportunity.
Davey Moore should not have been allowed 2 fight vs Duran in his state . Don't know about Howard Davis .

true .

And my contribution 2d thread :

Orlin Norris & Chris Byrd .
Norris got his shots @ Tucker*2 , Akinwande , Vitali Klitschko .
Byrd got his shots @ Wladimir Klitschko*2 , Vitali Klitschko
Not very nice 4 such small men .

Oliver McCall - should not have been signed 2 fight all those times he wasn't clean - Lewis #2 and probably Bruno & many more .

James Toney - 4 not going up prior 2d Jones fight .
Should have moved up more than a year earlier . Same with his staying a little 2 long @ 160 & 175 .
190 he could have maintained at least until its limit moved up 2 200 , which he demonstrated recently that he could always make .

Good call...

Once he dropped into King's hands, Tyson was done for. His is a textbook case on how to mismanage, exploit and screw a boxer big time

I would've said Primo Carnera but I realized he was managed brilliantly enough to win the World Title XD

1) Avenamar Peralta - in 1973 when Jorge Ahumada made his assault on the world stage by opting to further his career in NY and securing no less than 3 title shots over the '74-'75 time frame, his equally talented compatriot Avenamar Peralta opted for Europe where he went through a mass of wins that kept him in the top ten but with no one able to make the push for a title fight.

2) Rodolfo Gonzalez - a pro for 11 years going through win after win with nothing in sight until signing with Jackie McCoy who secured a title shot after only six fights.

3) Jeff Lampkin - became IBF cruiserweight champ and made on defense. Poised for big money with the title in his pocket until signing with Don King, who bluntly told him that he would have to give up his IBF title since he only deals with the WBC. Lampkin sat on his haunches for 2 years at a time when he should have been making all kinds of money, never defending it until stripped and never fought for a title again.

Good calls on Peralta and Gato.

Nana Konadu was another fighter who wasted a large chunk of his career in Spain.

King put the screws to Tyson ,I beleive he took a lot of Tyson's money from him. That kind of thing is expected with Don King , a real POS.
