Maskaev is listed at +450 with Peter at -650. Does anyone believe Maskaev can defeat Peter?

I suspect Peter will win, but I give Maskaev a decent shot. We'll see how Peter's improvement will look against a guy that can hit hard enough for him to notice. He could walk right in on a 5'9 light hitting butterball, but then again Oleg at 38 and is very beatable. But an Oleg UD isn't out of the question.

This is boxing - anybody can win and Samuel Peter isn't exactly a dominant unstoppable force. Maskaev can win, but I really don't see it happening. I would bet on a Peter KO win.

I want to see Peter-Vitali that would be one of the biggest fights in some time

Maskeav by decision in an all out war that'll see both fighters take alot of punishment.

I can't see Maskaev winning a war....his best chance is to outbox Peter, move, and hold.

at +450 I like Maskaev

Maskaev likes to go toe to toe and doesn't mind exchanges I'm not so sure that would be a great idea vs Peter.

Maskaev is going to be annihilated, probably quite early. :nod

Pete doesn't hit as hard as eveyone says. I think this fight will go the distance and Pete may get the decison, but not much fame for it.

an early KO for Peter...Maskaev has been starched BADLY before, and now he is older and slower...of course Maskaev has a chance, but its a slim one...

I can't see Scam Cheater beating Maskaev. Besides beating a shot fatass he has absolutely no boxing skills whatsoever and his power is overrated. Since Maskaev isn't a bum Peter isn't knocking him out.

Maskaev by UD.

I wouldn't rule out a UD for Peter either ,who would thought he would have UD'd Toney twice. unlike Zak who thinks Peter is best thing since sliced bread I don't think Peter is going to blow him away easily, I'm sure Oleg has done his homework he's not going to stick his head out for Peter to club.Expect a competitive fight.

Ok, ajax...Peter is going to get green again because he's not fighting James Toney. :nut

Peter looked more amateurish in the first Toney fight than he did against WLAD. The second fight is where he showed improvement, obviously. Why would the improvement go away...

...because Oleg is not pudgy...??? Don't think that's going to come into play, Fat Toney had great upper body movement and shoulder rolling and head movement...Maskaev is like a dear with his antlers straight up in the air.

...because Oleg is so tall...??? He's only got a couple inches on Sam, and Peter has no problem with taller fighters.

Your "James Toney is a 5'9" butterball" reasoning lacks here...unless your only purpose is insulting "Lights Out."

well, I guess I'm insulting James more than I am proping Oleg. But peter didn't have to worry about getting hurt by Toney because he doesn't have the same power as Oleg. But at the same time your right about Toney's slick defense and Oleg likes to exchange could mean trouble for him against Peter.
But judging his improvement against Toney could be misleading, Toney just got a UD against a tomato can that most people thought he lost. so Toney should not be used as a measuring stick. But I did notice in the second fight Peter did throw a lot more straight punches and looked better. I think it will be an interesting fight and don't expect a snoozefest

Ditto. Oleg has risen from the dead a couple of times, and I respect him for what he has accomplished, but I think this is where it ends.

But like Brooklyn says, anything can happen in boxing. Oleg's resurgence is a true example of that.

It'll be really shocking if Maskaev wins, REALLY shocking. My pick is Peter by KO and early, Maskaev is old and doesn't have the speed nor the stamina. If he gets caught early then he's out and if it goes the distance then he'll be way too tired to do much and will get KO'd regardless.

I agree with your post. Don't count Big O out just yet.

Not just stick his head out there, he has to also hold still while Peter winds up.

think Maskaev has a good chance. Peter still doesnt impress me. Most impressive win was over Jeremy Williams. Maskaev has been ko'd before but I think he can pull it out. Take Peter into deep water and Maskaev's chances go up. Betting on him to do it. Vitaly Klitschko will ko Peter in brutal fashion.

I make Peter the favorite for obvious reasons. The one way I could see Maskaev winning is if Peter comes in overweight like he did for the Toney fights because then I could conceivably see Maskaev outworking Samuel to a decision victory. But even then it's a shaky chance at best because we all know how bad Oleg's chin is and any one good shot at any time from Peter could put the lights completely out on Maskaev's possible upset victory.

I agree. I really need to see Peter's weight before making a determination. I was hoping somebody from Vegas on this board would give us a hint about Peter's shape.

Maskaev will come prepared and with a game plan. No idea how Peter will come in, if he comes in lazy and fat and thinks that he will win just by turning up, I think he will lose a lopsided UD

+1. He's been KO'ed by worse hitters than Peter when he was younger. He is going down. I don't think he's outboxing Peter, either.

As long as he stays under 250 hes in good shape. The best weight for him i think is 242-245. I dont think he could go under 240. But even ehn hhe comes in over 250 i would still pick him o win against Maskaev but still that wont do him any good if he wants to pove hes the best heavyweight out there.
