i voted yes because although i think calzaghe is as good as he ever has been, i dont think there is anyone left for him to fight that will add anything to his resume, he could beat dawson, but dawson deosnt bring enough money, i think joe will retire
he could beat dawson, but dawson deosnt bring enough money, i think joe will retire
as compared to hopkins?
I believe so, and I hope so from what I've seen recently.

you mean you dont rate his performances or...?
Not really. Hopkins looks a great win now, but I don't think he performed like he can.
A peak Calzaghe would have knocked that version of Jones out.

Voted yes.
If Dawson's camp made a big enough offer, then he would take that fight.
But they'll just blow hot air and end up not making an offer at all.

i agree, i noticed joe took his foot off the gas when he had jones hurt, not sure if his stamina is not what it was, i still see him beating dawson though
I'm not sure its stamina. He threw just under 1000 against Jones, if he hadn't been posing which probably actually takes more energy than throwing a punch, he could have thrown 1100+.
It's general sharpness. Also his hands, every punch is a flurry now, whereas he used to have the hands to throw more hard correct punches.

No.
No way he will turn down another massive payday. He hasn't made enough to bail out when his earning potential is at it's peak.
Hopkins in Cardiff WILL happen IMO.
He's made well over 20 million GBP. Probably closer to 30.
If he wants to retire I'm pretty sure he could live even the most extravagant lifestyle and not worry about finances.

I think Cazaghe will stay for one last big pay day. He obviously hates Hopkins, so Dawson seems likely, the fact they he didn't rule out Dawson when specifically asked post fight says a lot I think.

How did he manage to make that much money? When he spent a lot of his career fighting Rick Thornberry's.
You'd be suprised. He made 18 million according to ****** before Jones, whatever he made on Jones, interest thats racked up over the years and he may have other sources of income.
It's not going to be just for money if he fights a Chad Dawson. He can retire and make money out of boxing in other ways without fighting, or he could just fight a patsy in a farewell fight.

Are you calling Jones a bum?
The man you were so convinced would win? :rofl

I'm sure I read he only made a million from the Hopkins fight or something like that (perhaps the report was wrong). I remember thinking it was a surprisingly low figure considering it was his biggest fight. He's been through a divorce as well...
I'm just telling you what ****** said. He had earnings of 18 million prior to fighting Jones. Presumably Jones was one of his bigger paydays as well.
Divorce...point taken ;)
I don't think he would have great reason to fight Chad Dawson if he wanted money, because Dawson is not a big draw. He could give it the big farewell and probably fill out Cardiff against a bum. He wouldn't be risking anything that way. If he fights Dawson he's still thinking about legacy IMO.

Has he not had an expensive divorce? Take off that, taxes, money spent so far, expense, trainer... what's he gonna be left with now.
Say £10m. He isn't poor! But if he can stick another £3m away for one last fight, I don't really see him saying no.
All just my uninformed opinion of course, but listening to Joe (and most fighters) it's about the money. And he's in prime position to coin it in right now.
Let's put it this way if I were him I'd definitely go for one more, in Cardiff. He's toiled long and hard to earn this kind of money.

No, although I admit I don't know who he'll fight.
I reckon there will be one or two financially enticing offers around. That'll be what dictates things, and fair enough really.

Not quite sure who he will fight, it will be one more fight though, in cardiff.
Perhaps Tarver?

I think someone will pop a big offer on the table for a final fight in Wales and he wont say no.

Tarver? :-( That is a slightly odd suggestion but this is Joe Calzaghe I suppose.

****** wants other boxers to think that if they sign with him he will make them a lot of money. Because if Joe can make 18 million fighting a lot of trash then so can they. Unless he had a pre-nup, his wife would have been entitled to half of everything I believe, then you have lawyers, promoters, sanctioning fees, training costs etc. I would think Joe would be lucky to have about £10 million even after Jones Jr fight. Just a guess though. At this stage, I think he would probablly be earning £3 million a fight now, so sticking around for a couple more makes sense financially.

Yes he will retire I'm sure of it.
Joe is slipping in my opinion and if he intends to get to 50-0 he will lose at some point.
Not many fighters can retire at the top with a 46-0 record at the age of nearly 37 wityh his accomplishments.
He will retire a legend.

I'm leaning towards no due to his interview on Saturday night because thats the most emotional I have heard joe and I still believe he may fight dawson to finally shut up American boxing experts up.

He'll definitely retire - he's too worried about his "0" to fight again and risk losing it.
Shame he scared of re-matches and wont fight Hopkins again. Virtually all the great fighters have re-matched someone - part of the reason Joe falls short of true greatness.

I say yes, but I can't totally make my mind up on this. It's going to be difficult for him to retire after fighting for all those years.

I'm leaning that he will.
Don't think his heart is in it anymore (that's not to say he doesn't make an ill-advised comeback in 18 months time).
