View Full Version : Haye Struggling To Shift Tickets?

Tribute

I notice on the Hayemaker's official site that there is a 2-for-1 offer on all tickets over £80 for Saturday's fight.

Anyone else a little surprised that they're having to give tickets away for this? I would've thought after his destruction of Enzo there wouldn't be a problem selling tickets.

Perhaps the strength of the undercard has put some off?

Enzo was the main attraction in the last fight.

the promotion of Haye has been really poor

along with all those columns of ****** and the fact that people see barret as a bum who haye is just ganna roll over in a round not really surprised.

none of the casual fans know who david haye is, more people know maccranelli because they've seen him on ITV

ACHILLES THE GREAT BOUGHT SOME HAYE TICKETS

AND SAID THE PRICE FOR SOME OF THEM RINGSIDE WAS ABOUT £1000 - £2000 QUID - OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT

anyway - I said at the time

Haye will have problems selling them tickets because he is not a big enough name

Its not like this is Tyson and Holyfield at the MGM Grand

people swayed my mind and said - people will shell out for them

now it turns out he is offering 2 for 1

reality of the situation is now starting to show on Haye and his promotions

pherhaps they were a bit naive - starting out as new promoters - Booth and Haye

and they found out - a successful promotion aint all that easy to achieve

Haye should have fought Skelton to get more media interest.

not only that

Enzo had the backing of Britiains top promoter

and was chief support to Joe Calzaghe on some huge shows at the millienieum stadium

Haye has never really had that limelight

apart from the Enzo fight

however that Enzo fight was a really hyped battle of Britain fight

it caught the attention of everyday people - who went along to see a "event"

even GABBY went to Enzo and Haye

not every fight you have is going to have that type of hype around it

a 29 year old woman - who works in Marketing - and who never watches boxing - would have gone to Hayes last fight - with her boyfriend / husband - as it was a "event" to see

that same 29 year old woman - who works in Marketing - probaly dosent even know David Haye is fighting this weekend now

that 29 year old woman - who works in Marketing - will go out down the town instead - with some friends - for some drinks - and socialise - she will be so busy chatting away - she wont even notice the David Haye fight in the background on the Bar TV Screen

For me there was just no attraction to go to this one like there was the last one. Maybe it was the thought of the last one being all British and there would be a bit of banter and stuff (although the dickhead cockneys ruined that) but this one hasn't been very attractive. I think I've grown a bit tired of Haye, I like him but he's spent most of the year out of the ring talking crap. It's easy to call yourself the best when you aren't fighting anyone.

Hopefully he can back up all his talk well enough to make me want to watch him next year.

Its all down to marketing, Haye should get some people who specialise in marketing sports events to handle marketing for Hayemaker Promotions.

This is a far more dangerous fight for Haye. If we are honest Enzo is just a big chap with titties and there is no way Haye could lose to a man wit boobs. Monte is in a different league and although just a gatekeeper he does pose more of a danger to Haye than Enzo could have ever posed (even if Enzo had come into the ring against Haye with an loaded AK47) as he looked shit scared.

Like you say Monte is just a gate keeper

But Enzo was a World Champion - no 1 crusierweight in the world - conquered the whole world.

Its not really hard to get a shitty belt in cruiserweight division. Even Arslan (I call hi arsewipe) managed to bag a belt in germany and he has a worse chin than Enzo.

i reckon the main reason, certainly the reason,me doggy, doyley and strike did not go,was the start time.

when it was announced it would be 2 am, we decided to give it a swerve, cause after the macca fight with no tubes, getting home was a fucking nightmare.
if they had the fight at a sensible time i.e 10pm, us four would have gone along with another four of my mates..

they shot themselves in the foot...

You need a BIG fight to get away with that 2am nonsense, Haye-Barrett while interesting doesn't cut it. What time have they moved it to?

Enzo was the main attraction in the last fight.

I'm just pondering that one... If true it doesn;t say a lot for the British Boxing public does it? Opinion on here prior to the fight would suggest otherwise though and I think ESB has a good cross-section of the British Boxing public.

I went to the Haye-Enzo fight and its seemed a good split, casual fans, boxing fans and fans of both boxers. If anything I'd say there seemed to be more Haye fans but this might just down to the fact that Cockneys are naturally louder than normal people.

probably why he's never gotten anywhere (apart from splattered onto the canvas by the first good opponent he faced)

I'd say he's done very well given the level of his ability. We're not talking a great talent gone to waste here, he's a half decent Euro level boxer who's won and defended a world title and made quite a few bob in the process.

11.15 supposedlyThat's still a bit on the late side. If it's delayed and goes the distance, then public transport may start to get a bit thin on the ground.

It's strange, as you would think David Haye would have no problem promoting himself. Perhaps he should go to ITV and ask for a slot on ITV4.

What? Mortgage rates going down? I'm nearly £15 a month better off since the credit crunch, the slight downside is that my job of 15 years is hanging by a thread. Swings and roundabouts I suppose....

It's not easy selling out 20,000 tickets. It's fight week! Why isn't Haye all over the metro, londonlite, londonpaper, internet etc

Maybe Haye is having troubling promoting and training at the same time.

Ultimately though, winning will get him known.

Setanta should put Wlads fight on to hype the fight.

There just seems to be a general feeling that everyone needs to tighten their belts a bit, and £50+ for a ticket seems just that little bit steeper that it did say six months ago. Not saying this is true for everyone but it must be affecting some people.

It really wasn't as big as you seem to think Flint...

I think the fact a fair amount of people went to NY for Joe, another bunch will go to watch Ricky, and I think Froch is gathering a considerable following too doesn't leave much for Haye to shoot at.

I think people seriously worry it will be a big expense and could be over in 2.

With xmas coming and people getting nervous about their finances it doesn't surprise me that they are baulking at probably £200 plus to come to London and watch the fight.

I mean we've had threads before about Setanta putting their monthly fee up £2 lol

bare in mind its an 18,000 seater venue there trying to fill. The first card ****** put on there, with cook luevano and khan limmon only got 7,000 so anything above that will be a sucess.

The Haye vs Enzo fight had an intriguing British title fight as chief support - this one has an interalphabetty fight.

Throw in the fact that a lot of people are panicking about whether they will get paid next week and you have the answer.

A guy I know has (well had) a plastering company, and was owed £350k by a contractor that went bust. Took him under as well - 60 guys out of work.

Just a guess but the current fuckedness of the economy is most probably a primary reason as to why no one is buying tickets.

A bit of an update on the ticket situation from The Sun:

'After a slow start to ticket sales, now approaching 7,000 for the 19,000 venue, all but the cheap seats at the 02 are being offered two-for-the-price-of-one.'

I'd say boxing needs to bring its price down a little, especially in the current climate, your not gonna get "would be fans" or young kids who might start gettin into going to boxing, families, girlfriends etc are less likely to pay out so much on a night they may not enjoy.

I dont care if its two for one. I would rather watch it on my big widescreen!
I pay enough for bloody Setanta and Sky gota make use of it. Plus I would be pissed if someone gets knocked out in the first few rounds and I shelled out on a ticket, no matter how much it costs. Also the undercard is crap.

11.15 supposedly

It's still a very late start and bearing in mind more people live outside London than inside, it still makes getting home by train impossible. And who in their right minds wants to drive into London?

I'm sure they'd've sold more tickets with a 10pm start

I used to love going to boxing at Wembley Arena and (especially) The Royal Albert Hall where you always got a decent view even in the cheapest seats

The upper tier seats are not essential for a big fight!
