Andre Dirrell=Track Star

What I saw last night was an example of what boxing shouldn't be. I have respect for anybody who steps in the ring, but Andre Dirrell did something that is nearly impossible...he made John Ruiz and Cory Spinks look like Matthew Saad Muhammad and Bobby Chacon:-( . He threw very few punches, ran all around the ring, and showboated like he was Roy Jones Jr or something. Lederman and Merchant were disgusted at his performance and the fans showed their anger too. I don't know if he has a glass jaw and he's trying to protect it by any means or if he is just trying to emulate Muhammad Ali, but one things for sure, unlike Lennox, I would never pay to see this kid fight again.:patsch I know lots of people here have complained about Mayweather and call him a runner, but there is a clear difference between Mayweather's brilliance and boxing skills and what was shown last night.


I'm just glad Paulie put on a good show so they at least got their money's worth.

I thought Dirrell was the best American prospect at the 2004 Olympics, but last night was a real downer for me. The worst part is that he probably could have overwhelmed Stevens with speed, if only he'd been willing to stand his ground. He didn't need to run like that.

I COMPLETELY agree with you. Dirrell could hit Stevens at will, the guy has amazing speed. Yet, he fights like an utter bitch. I knew Dirrell would win this fight, I thought he would overwhelm Stevens and actually stop him. I have heard a lot of stuff about Stevens on this board and he looked SOO AMATEURISH last night. Stevens can knock out lower grade fighters all he wants..he has no idea how to fight a boxer..and that really confuses me.

With Stevens, I am aware that he fought many amateur fights right? With his height being 5'7, you think he would know how to cut off a friggin' ring!!!! Damn..he didn't do shit. He let Dirrell run away, threw no body punches..and my God, whenever Dirrell ran away from Stevens, he would put his HANDS STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR! :patsch Stevens was definately one of those overrated New York prospects.

paulie, while not the most entertaining boxer out there at least showed that you can throw punches, maintain reasonable distance and not get hit at the same time(its called boxing).

I agree. And we all know that Paulie CAN take a beating if he IS FORCED to*cough-Cotto-cough*. Otherwise he racks up points and leaves his opponents scoreless for the most part.

it looks like he maybe on his way to be one of the great ones, he looked just like ali and jones in there. and yesterday he took a risky fight which already means he won't be the type to duck fighters.
