Did David Hayes performance last night...........................................
Increase your confidence he could beat one of the Klitshko brothers - and he would more likely win
or
You are more doubtful now he can beat them - and would more likely lose
or your belief or doubts on wether he could beat them or lose have remained the same
going strictly on last nights performance against Monte Barret

going strictly on last nights performance the chances of haye beating wlad have risen dramatically imo, however i still think wlad would win

I noticed after the fight Barry Mugain was doubtful Haye could be the next heavyweight champion...................I think he thinks Haye is too vunerable himself

I seriously think Monte was not a very good test for him, on paper Monte looked as if he could cause problem but reality showed otherwise.
I think Monty Panesar would have given Haye a harder fight than Monte Barret.

To be honest although it was a sound victory in devastating fashion it doesnt really tell us too much. As Monte is at the tail end of his career and not a particularly big heavy.
Hayes defense is still extremely porous and he can still be hit quite easily with lead right hands. If he comes into the ring vs Vlad or Vitali with that left hand by his waist he`s going out on a stretcher.

I think he would stop Wlad, but Vitali's a different proposition all together. I'm not sure Haye would get close enough for long enough to put Vitali in trouble and, of course, then the questions about his punch resistance and stamina would be answered one way or another.

David was very tired. But so was Monte who was blowing visibly by the 3rd round. Vlad and Vitali are both 12 round fighters. Haye has his work cut out.
FLINT ISLAND

why do you think Haye is so confident of beating Vitali?
Wlad he has a decent chance
Vitali though.....................he could be in for a rude awakening there

Wlad and Vitali would both take Haye easily. As Scurla has mentioned Haye looked gassed last night after a few rounds and to be honest activity during those rounds was not at a real quick pace.
Vitali would do a complete number on Haye and it would be a more exciting fight to watch. Wlad would use his handbag jab for 12 rounds and just be 100% defensive and get a points win.

Very true, but I don't think vitali and wlad a heavyweight with fast hands and also they won't be able to intimidate him like vitali did with peter, or wlad with thompson. Yes he may get hit with bombs but one things for sure he'll be throwing them straight back. I think to beat Wlad or vitali u need to get inside because they both rather fight out of range rather than on the inside and thats were haye will have his chance.

On balance, I'd say I'm slightly less confident after that.
It might be just my perception based on past fights, but there is an air of vulnerability about Haye. Maybe it was because I thought there was an Oliver McCall vibe about Barrett. He was mental.
I thought Haye tired a tad as well, not gassed by any means, but still... that said, Barret did pressure him. And however wild, when someone is relentlessly trying to land a money punch, it takes energy and concentration to avoid it.
All in all I think Barrett was fairly poor-ish. Which is what you want for your first foray after permanently moving up.
I actually think Haye is still a green fighter, he could do with getting a few more fights under his belt against diferent types of oppo. But that's not gonna happen.

More confident after last night but I still think Hayemaker is destined to go down in a blaze of glory against either of the brothers.

That maybe true but what a blaze it will be. I believe that haye could potentially do them both with his three punch combo. But the heavyweight division his livening up and its all due to a brit.:happy

 Come on I was expecting a half decent test form Monte but he looked half asleep and as if someone had been stealing his porridge for the last few days.
At least Monty Panesar would have vaulted over the ropes without falling on his arse.

Yes it did. At 215 pounds he showed yet again he can carry the weight, move fluidly, punch fast, stay strong and most importantly of all he has proved for the second time that he can punch fucking hard.
What he did to Bonin, a guy the size of Harrison couldn't come close to.
What he did to Barret, punchers like Wlad, Rahman and others couldn't.

I was concerned at how open he was, but maybe this shows confidence in his chin?????
I agree with Flint (never thought I'd say that), he'd be mental to go after Vitali.
I still think he could spring a surprise on Wlad. Couldn't rule it out.
Either way, hope he does well.

From the first bell I had the feeling that all Barret had to do was connect properly once with Haye's little pinhead and it was all over. I keep wiriting Haye off but he keeps proving me wrong, I can't stand the bloke but I've got to admire his take on all comers attitude.

I was disappointed in Haye not fighting smart. I wanted to see him jabbing so he was winning rounds while looking for the ko. I also wanted to see him work the body a bit more so that he could really break Barrett down should the fight go far. I was also suprised at his leaky guard considering it was his second fight at heavy. I want Haye to tighten up his guard a little. His footwork and head movement is good but he needs to keep his arms a bit tighter and the chin needs to stay down. These are all easy things to be fixed because he's done it all before. I think it might be rooted in over confidence. I hope not.

less confident really. he looks too easy to hit . throw in a questionable chin and you have a recipe for disaster against the klitcshko's. he'd have a punchers chance against wlad, but virtually no hope against vitali.
he needs to fight more contenders i think, going in too soon against one of those two would end in a thorough beating.

Not really - can't read too much into it.
He was probably pumped too much instead of keeping cool and fighting intelligently like he did against Enzo.
The hands have to come up though - even chest high would be a big improvement.
I just think he will get jabbed to death by either.

Monte seemed alot bigger than him
Montes upper body seemed thicker set and that accounted for an extra 10 pounds. Haye has gone old school at heavy and weighed in at what a 6'3 fighter should weigh in. Ali, Norton and Holmes aren't small heavies.

I think his weight is fine - too much and he will lose the speed.
If he loses the speed he becomes just like every other heavyweight outside of the Klitschko's, with a bit more power.
To beat those two, you need as many things in your favour as you can. Piling on another 10-15lbs isn't going to improve his chin, or his power which is fine anyway.

On the positive side, his power really carried, enough to trouble anyone in the division, apart maybe from Valuev who seems to have a head made of concrete.
On the negative side, he fought with very little discipline and there appeared to be absolutely no improvement in his defence. He did not use the jab anough. Monty was trying just to swing wildly, however someone like Wlad who has a superb one-two combination would be a different proposition, is Haye will fight the same way against Wlad and leaves himself so open for his right hand, he will be knocked into the back rows.
He seems to smarten up in the ring a bit and not just rely on his speed and power so much.

Haye wasn't allowed to fight in a textbook manner, Barrett was wild and indisciplined and dragged Haye into a scruffy, bomb throwing affair.
So I don't blame Haye for not being so methodical and not using the jab as well as he could. He wasn't really allowed to. But that's not to say he didn't impose himself on Barrett, he clearly did, he kept flooring him.
I think Haye could do with a few more fights before taking on the Klit's. Even a seasoned campaigner like Holy took a few fights to work his way in to the heavies. You don't go from Fragomeni to Klitscho in 2 years and 4 fights or so. The gulf is ridiculous in size, class, scale of event, everything.
Haye is still quite a fresh, naive boxer IMO.

Thought he was a bit open too. In the flurries yes Haye was having success but Monte was only missing by fractions himself, it just seemed a bit more from luck than judgement on Haye's part.
I think it was a good proper start on the HW road though, I think he was only blowing because he kept having Monte going so had to go for it then he got a bit ragged. If Monte had been hit less then we would have seen a bit more from Haye, a la Mormeck where patience and working openings was the right path. Horses for courses int it.
As for the VK's? Go for Vlad, brother Vit's too big and too solid.
Has Vit ever been wobbled? Can't recall it, lewis landed some but i don't seem to remember Vit being too troubled...but for the blood of course.

My opinion hasn't changed based on Saturday. If he fights either of the Klitchskos next he gets jabbed to death and loses big.
I think he could do with at least one, maybe two fights before fighting them. Trouble is with all of his talk I think he's made a rod for his own back now. The general public wont have the patience for him to take another 2 tune-ups.

Barrett was hopeless, everything has to be put in that context. Haye needs another fight before either K.

Barret is close to being shot as a fighter, still It's a good win for Haye in his ascent of the heavyweight championship.
Evander Holyfield proved himself as a legitimate heavyweight by defeating Michael Dokes and Alex Stewart before fight aficionados took him seriously. Hopefully Haye will step up in his next few fights. A fight with Arreola, Thompson or Chambers would be interesting.
Haye is certainly an exciting fighter.
