Boxrec rankings are terrible.Look at the rankings for each weight class - eg Corey Spinks #2 middleweight - laughable

In a sport as chaotic and random as boxing, there's no possible way for an empirical system to work. You have to view this stuff subjectively.

Boxrec see it as a objective boxing records.
The boxing journalists in the most cases are objective and gives proper due.
Boxing fans in most cases favour their favorite boxers regardless of the outcome.

its good to have somethings rationale as boxing records to bias the fans nuthuggery.

I'm not sure I understand. How could anyone defend these rankings? They make no sense at all.

And I'm sure Boxrec sees it as objective, but you can't make boxing be objective in the current environment. No way.

They have a points system and its computer generated. Every fighter earns a certain amount of points for beating people, and the better the opponent the more points they get and its all computer generated by who has the most points.

Right, and that can't work. Their rankings are their business, I appreciate all the work they do, but they'd be better off just having their editors vote or something.

Off course they are objetive.

Hopkins was reighning champion for many years and lost to undefeated prospect.
Now he have two wins over the recognized "man" at LHW and
top5 p4p fighter. Nobody have better record than him recently.

PBF is unbeaten but he didnt fought any p4p fighter in many years.
His win over Baldomir is good from the record point of view because
he beat liner champion. His win over Oscar is just a money fight and
these are slightly lower than recent wins of Hopkins.

Hatton and John are unbeaten and "chmpions" in their weight classes
with good recent wins. But you shouldn't make case they are below
Hopkins and Maywetaher.

I don't see Vasquez as high.

Calzaghe and Taylor formally still unbeaten with not best record in
terms of beating best competition recently.

Mijares beat top guys recently ans is unbeaten in many years.

The only case which is really logically not real is PAC at 11.

I think this list would be DECENT if you just exchange PAC with Vasquez.

And that warrants number 4? Taylor beat Hopkins twice and is still undefeated and he's lower.

Vasquez has recent wins over Larios, Gonzalez, and now Marquez. He is definitely pound4pound, prior to the loss against Marquez I had him at about 10 or 11, now he is definitely in there.

When was it? What are the odds for Taylor vs Pavlik ...

All this mean that Taylor did not accomplished much after beating Hopkins.
If he beat Wright he should be #4 but he didn't,
so its not enough to be at #4 p4p list, however #7-8 is OK.

One of the main problems with the boxrec system, partically with there latest tweaks is the way wins are not devalued if they are over shot or simply past prime opposition - also I'm not sure if it takes into account beating up smaller opponents - so Hopkins beating up an old, smaller Wright got him to the top based on Winky's wins over WWs like Sugar Shane, years ago

American humans here also seem to work with a similar system
