awesome !

The UFC officially announced during Saturday’s pay-per-view telecast of UFC 91 that a battle of light heavyweight unbeatens is set to take place at UFC 94 on Saturday, Jan. 31.

Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva had originally be scheduled to fight last month at UFC 89 in Birmingham, England but the bout was canceled after Silva had suffered an injury while training.

UFC officials had attempted to schedule another match for Machida, but his camp was adamant about waiting for an opportunity to compete against Silva.

Macida is 13-0 and has not competed since a three-round unanimous decision victory over Tito Ortiz at UFC 84 in May. The victory improved Machida’s record inside of the Octagon to 5-0.

Silva is also 13-0 with his last victory coming at UFC 84 as well. Facing Antonio Mendes, Silva recorded a first round TKO due to punches just 2:24 into the fight. The native Brazilian is 4-0 while competing under the UFC banner.

UFC 94 will emanate from the MGM Grand Garden Arena the night before the Super Bowl and will air live on pay-per-view. Already announced as the show’s main event is Georges St. Pierre defending the UFC welterweight title vs. current UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn.

Machida UD..I cant see it any other way..If Silva gets really sloppy Machida may KO him. Silva, I see a smaller Gonzaga, menacing, scary but I'll wait til he steps up to someone like Machida. If he beats Machida watch out 205.
If he touches Machida more than 5 times in this match, Id be very impressed.

Machida is the best counterpuncher in MMA, watch him, hes one of few who attacks an opponents attack almost instantaneously. Incrdible timing.
He's been against some very good strikers out there and have barely been touched. Silvas aggressive style will be perfect for Lyoto.

I think if Silva can get Lyoto on his back he can definitely win.

I think Thiago is quite underrated. Not that Machida isn't really really good, just that I think Silva has a good chance. He is really good at using his JJ to set up vicious GnP, and if he is able to get Machida to the mat and get the mount like he does, it could be over.

Then again, I am ALWAYS wrong.

^ ya because silva is a bjj brown belt and machida is a black belt so chances are on the ground machida has the advantage. silvas best chance is from the clinch where his chute boxe training will come in handy. if he can clinch and test machidas chin he can win. on the mat machida is better and has better wresling and standing machida is so elusive that he will easily out point silva.

i agree silva is underated just this is his worse match up a technical striker that is better on the ground. if he cant clinch he will lose a lop sided decision.

that being said im a huge fucking thaigo silva fan so war thiago hope he knocks machidas head off.

I honestly don't know. I know he trained at Chute Box and I think he got it there. I've just checked like, 10 websites (including wiki) and they all say black belt. I know he's won some competitions (though, I dont know at what level or how important they were.)

Thiago has really good BJJ it's just that he uses it to set up GnP more than he looks for subs. It's actually like, my favorite style of fighting.

But yeah, I don't know from who or where.

well in his last fight he was a bjj brown belt and he no longer trains at chute boxe so i know he didnt get it there. he may have gotten it since he started training at att but last i had heard he wasnt and wiki is not a good refference.

I know wiki isn't the best reference but it's not the only place I looked. EVERYWHERE says he is a black belt.

I found it. He got it under Jorge Patino Macaco. [Only registered and activated users can see links]

Thiago has the better ground game, he got his black belt a while ago under Macaco, the other branch of Chute Boxe, the more grappling oriented branch out of Sao Paulo, and now trains out of ATT.

Machida is the man to beat at 205.

This should be a damn good fight, but I'll choose Machida's striking and elusiveness to win out over Silva's ground game, especially considering Machida's own skills on the ground.
