I see what you mean but personally I don't think a 44 year old Bernard has the stamina to deal with Joe's constant barrage. Hopkins immediately had a two round head start by knocking Joe down last time out, and still lost. I doubt he'd manage to get such a handicap again.
Personally I'd take Bernard to win if he was younger but at 43/44 he will be beaten by busier fighters such as Joe, and even Taylor. He's by no means shot but his age can be exploited by the guys with the skills to do it.

Yeah, i guess Dawson is the better choice, but a lot of people are clamouring for that b-hop rematch

Hopkins and Kessler are the best actual opponents on the list, which is why I still think retirement is the correct option, as we've already been there. I've no desire to see either Calzaghe or Hopkins in another fight against each other. Whilst their ability to each neutralise each others strengths is impressive on some level, it don't eactly make a spectacle.
Woods would be horrifically bad, Johnson and Tarver essentially pointless, Froch or Bute have done nothing to merit such a match. I suppose you can make a case for Taylor, but it doesn't exite me that much.
So, if there were to be another fight, I'd say Dawson. But that's as much on the basis of him being that latest American hypefad and it would be funny to see the reaction when he got clowned, as on the merits of the fight itself.

Also to point out that the thread title and the poll question are completely different. My previous post answered the question in the title, but I voted in line with the poll question, hence Kessler.

We have seen Joe take care of both Kessler and Hopkins already, and so, going by that, I would have to say Dawson would be the best match-up.
Kessler and Hopkins are more proven and could conceivably be the harder fight to take, but Dawson hasn't fought Calzaghe yet and is still a bit of an unknown; his skillset appears so different to Jeff Lacy's that we shouldn't need to worry about another walk over for Joe.
A win against Dawson does more for Joe's resume than a rematch or a fight with anyone else on the list posted. You think that Dawson is being hyped-up at the moment, just wait until the week approaching fight night with Calzaghe; I think everyone would be intrigued by this fight; it would end up being massive.

Chad Dawson.
but he will retire. the only fight I think he could take is francis, provided he beats Erdei. an all-UK fight with a proper title, the lineal and ring 'championships', bad blood between the two, easy sell out crowd in Cardiff, for an easy-ish but probably fun fight to watch with which to say goodbye...

Hasn't Francis not pulled out of that fight?
I heard he said it was too short notice and that he wouldn't be able to lose the weight in time.

Lots of things wrong with this, not least that Francis v Erdei isn't happening.
Dawson, failing that Kessler.
I don't want to see Hopkins cheating his way to a close loss again. That really is water under the bridge, there is nothing Hopkins can do to turn that fight in his favour and it was really really boring.

That was the reason? The fight was announced in October and due in January, how much does he weigh?!

Has it been cancelled? Didn't know that. I don't see what's wrong with it otherwise - though Francis did say he trained at Enzo's gym in the past couple of years

No-one, he should retire, although if he does all the Yanks will say he did it to avoid having to fight Dawson

I don't think there's anyone left for Joe to prove himself against. His legacy is complete and therefore should retire.

I'd like him to retire, although if he fighs again a B-Hop rematch would be the one.
It was close enough to warrant a rematch and a win either side of Hopkins beating Pavlik would be a nice way to go out.
Joe doesnt need to fight on, but if he does he would get least stick fighting Chad Dawson, for that reason who should beat him.

Joe should retire but a Brit fight for his fans would be great. Joe vs Froch at the Millennium would be a great send off.

It would be a great send off but I can't see this coming off unless the money is too good to turn down.

Chad Dawson: Young, undefeated, highly touted LHW belt holder who in my mind, has earned his shot at Calzaghe through his victories against Johnson, Adamek and Tarver.
I would not mind Froch either simply because of the domestic appeal and the fact that as Jeff Thomas pointed out, this is a win that could appreciate with time depending upon how much success Froch achieves at SMW.
Those are the only two that should be considered, I wouldn't want to see a great fighter like Bernard Hopkins resort to hugging and rolling around the mat pretending his balls are sore because he can't handle what JC brings.
I have a feeling Joe might stick around a lil bit longr than one fight, purely for money reasons. He had a lot of mickey mouse defences which woudnt have brought him thhe mega bucks I think if HBO give him big offers to face the like of Dason and Johnson and even Americans like Taylor and Pavlik, he could be a round for a while.
Hopefully not too long though.

IF he decided not to retire, but instead to fight once more, I'd like Calzaghe to rematch Bernard "The Great" Hopkins! :happy :happy :happy :happy :happy
Nobody.
We have seen enough of this dude.

he should fight dawson. beating dawson would mean hes beat every top guy out there. They'll always be people knocking his record but in his peak over last 3 or 4 years he'll have beat the top guys (past and present) of both divisons cant do much more, if he doesnt people will say he ducked him. i know its a case of theyll be people coming through all the time but i cant see anyone doin so in the next 6 months so a summer fight in cardiff would be perfect send off.
on another note did any one see bunces boxin when they said joe missed a chance with peter he could of stepped up and out boxed him 10x better than vitali did.

I missed that bit, he said that - I'm not sure if Joe would carry the weight that well to heavy. He'd give up a lot of his advantages.
id like to see him fight the desire to stay on the couch and have another cream cake.....retire joe..you have nothing to prove and no matter how many fighters ya beat, there will always be voices sayin 'but what about......'......sod em joe...your a legend, enjoy your health, your money and your family....

Zsolt Erdei, the WBO and linear champion.
Calzaghe should fight him next, because he is undefeated, holds the WBO title and is the linear titlist.
It would give Calzaghe (if he won) the linear title, ring title and WBO title. It would complete the job at 175lbs.
The fight should be in Wales.

Many people feel that Erdei has the lineage...because he beat Gonzalez who beat DM....but I honestly think any claim that he once had has been revoked as a result of his utterly terrible competition in recent years...

A fight with Carl Froch would be good. Kessler and Hopkins is a risk and the rest ain't worth a wank.

Exactly the same thing that Calzaghe did, Branco Sobot, Will McIntyre, Rick Thornberry anyone?
I stand by Erdei, the WBO would almost certainly make it a mandatory for Erdei as Calzaghe was the super champion at 168lbs.
Tarver, Johnson, Taylor, Hopkins rematch, nah!

Bhop rematch for me. I thought Joe won clearly enough frst time up but Bernard has since dealt with Pavlik comfortably, that earns him another go in my book.
I've no appetite for a Dawson fight.
If Joe beats Bernard again and Froch has claimed the WBC strap, and possibly defended, then that would be a fantastic fight. But right now, Froch franly doesn't deserve it, much as it's a fight I'd like to see.

There was no lineage at 168, and Calzaghe faced the likes of Sheika, Woodhall, Brewer and Reid during the early part of his reign....far more impressive than most of the fighters that Erdei has faced with the exception of perhaps, Garay.
