If this match up ever happened back in the day when Toney was actually in shape, who do you guys think would have won.

I personally think Toney woulda beat Hopkins ass and embarrased him..who do you guys got.

I think Hopkins improved as a champion.

Back in 1993-94, I don't think he was going to beat Toney @ 168.

I can see the version of Hopkins now bothering Toney just because of how much Hopkins runs around the ring and then clinches but, back then when Hopkins had a more aggressive style...I think if they stood right in front of each other Hopkins would take a beating don't you think?

I agree..His fighting changed ALOT. He got more and more cautious as time went on.

Toney is as tough or maybe tougher than Hopkins with better boxing ability
so I go with TONEY

Depends on what toney you get, an in shape Toney....(which was hardly the case)....or a fat out of shape toney ala the Roy Jones fight....

I go with Hopkins if i was a betting man, because hes always in Superb shape and he can box well too...with TOney its a roll of the dice, yes he can box with the best of them, but which toney is going to show up

Hopkins by UD. With Bernard, you know he is going to be in shape and prepared. You couldn't always count on that with Toney. I can't see anybody embarassing Hopkins and knocking him out, as some have suggested.

Honestly Hopkins could only beat Toney if he ran around the ring and then Clinched nonstop...But if he stood toe to toe with Toney he'd get KTFO in a devastating fashion. And I still think that Toney would out smart Hopkins either way...That ***** took flush shots by Samuel Peter...Toney would never give Hopkins any kind of respect.

Toney would have whooped Hop prime for prime at 168.

The old school bhop would get embarrased by Toney.

Dahm - no doubt. B Hop would Never have the power to stand up to Toney. No way. Toney would win 98 out of a 100 fights. Toney is fare to strong to B hop.
I don't hope that B hop ever considers fighting Toney.

If he ran all night from Toney he would still lose, and I personally would LOVE to see Hopkins attempt that gay clinching with Toney. He (B-Hops AKA "Hoke") would land up losing whats left of his fucked up teeth.

LOL, Hell na..I wanted to say that same shit but I kept my mouth shut..

I doubt anybody is going to dominate a late 90s/early 00s Bernard Hopkins, not even @ 168 lbs.

At 168 Toney would have got in bernards ass something serious. Reason why RJ was able to win that fight they way he did was b/c he waas super fast. Bernard doesnt have that speed. SO James will be able 2 handle him, James would block most of Bernards shots, or counter punch him all the way to a UD.

I think that's the first time I've disagreed with a post of yours, Fab. I think Hops beats Toney at 168.

Of course, I have never disagreed with your choice of avatars. Nice going. :good

lol, I jsut think that an "inshape" toney would outbox hopkins IMO. The ruff tactics bernard tries to use with other fighters will not work here. TOney was a beast at boxing on the inside,a nd he was pretty good with stayin on the outside and boxign as well. He is a defensive genius and a master at counter punching. I just see him beating B-hop 2 b honest. B-hop puttin on weight doesnt look as impressive to me btw. Since he came to 175 he has looked less than himself. So we dont kno how he would box at 168, while we know that James was a ebast at that weight. I think James TOney would beat him IMO

As usual, you make your points well. I think Bernard's ability to box from the outside and his ability to avoid hard shots (especially in his younger days) carry the day for him. It could go the other way, though, which makes this an interesting match up.
