Hey all.

Ive finally decided to lose some weight and get into shape.
Ive got a snowboarding holiday comeing up and id like to be as fit for it as possible.

My brother is also on the chubby side so i thought of a little bet between me and my brother that would help us both lose weight and maybe make a few quid while we were at it.
Every week we would have a weigh in, who ever lost the least amount of weight puts a tenner in a pot. On new years day we have a final weigh in and who evers lost the most, wins the pot.

Ive been eating really healthy having 3 decent meals a day, for instance, fruit and fibre for breakfast, 2 scrambled egg on brown toast for lunch and steamed chicken and veg for dinner.
Ive not found this a hardship atall because i enjoy the food i make and can really see myself sticking to it for a long time. Ive cut my drinking down from 20 pints a week to 5. Ive joined the gym at work which ive been visiting about 4-5 times a week, i really enjoy going and feel great after a good work out.

I really think i can stick to this healthy lifestyle.

Ive been gradually loosing weight, roughly 2-3lb's per week. Which from what ive read from this site is quite a good steady amount to lose.

So far ive only had to put 20quid in the kitty which im quite pleased about.
Sadly my brother hasent taken any pics of himself, hes lost 7lb's so far.

So heres 2 pics of me weighing 19lb's less

I cant really see major differences but its only been a couple of months, im quite chuffed with the way its going.

Il give regular updates on my progress.

Although, you might want to have the final weigh-in on New Year's Eve instead of New Year's day. That way, if your brother is a sneaky bastard, he can't spend all night puking his guts out from too much liquor and suddenly "losing" a bunch of weight. :D

What kinda portions and food was you knocking up?truth be told i did find it very hard to eat all those meals. i ate lots of fruit, nuts, tuna, protein shakes, and then veggies with my supper. funny how it can y be hard to eat so often. i was eating around 2500 a day.

Thats not all you've been eating through out the day is it?!?! If you're working out thats not enough calories, even if you wanna lose weight.
Its not great things either. If you have to have it, make the mayo light, try to do wheat bread instead of white, and the eggs; I have three eggs almost every morning, but I have all three whites and only one of the yolks.

If thats all you're eating are you at least taking a multivitamin?
If you're working out though thats only about 1000 calories a day...

RDJ

I have three eggs almost every morning, but I have all three whites and only one of the yolks.

You're throwing away the best part of the egg

Sorry, that really pisses me off I love yolks :D

On topic, I think his diet needs more fruits and veggies and like you said trade in the white bread for whole grain. It's not very nutrient rich.

TheRock49
02-17-2009, 09:35 PM
Three egg yolks is like, 50% of your daily recommended fat though. I know what you mean though, they are the "tasty" part of the egg. Im just anal about fats and sugars. Except natural sugars that are in fruit. I eat a shit load of fruit.

RDJ
02-17-2009, 09:50 PM
Not just tasty, the yolk contains all the eggs vitamins and minerals and that's quite a lot. It contains about 5 grams of fat (45 calories), only a third of which is saturated. It's only 15 grams of fat for three eggs, that's not much. Certainly not half of your recommended intake. The yolk also contains half of the eggs protein. Like I said you are throwing away the best part of the egg, it's a total waste. It's more than worth the extra calories.

There are no sugars in an egg btw, not sure if you meant that in this context.

TheRock49
02-18-2009, 10:17 AM
Hmmmm. I was always told that the yolks the fatty part and the whites the protein. I just looked it up though and yea, the yolks a little more than half the protein... Im gonna have to yell at my trainer when I see her tonight... Cant complain though. I gotta be doing something right with my eating, Im 6'0 1/2, 6.1 % body fat and walk around 153 lbs...

And no, I didnt mean to say there's sugar in eggs, I ment in the fruit. Apologies if I miss "typed".

Hey folks. I do usually only eat wholemeal bread but there wasent any in the house at the time. Today I had basicly the same for breakfast and lunch but I had steamed chicken and veg for dinner. I'm seriously thinking about this 6 meals a day malarky. Think I'm going to have to start planning my meals properly. Is a protein shake a decent meal replacment if I haven't got time to knock up a propper meal? Cheers for all the feedback by the way. This plateau I've hit is starting to piss me off. I'm stuck at 14st 6!!!

RDJ
02-18-2009, 01:01 PM
If you haven't got time try smoothies (see rakim's thread), a protein shake lacks too many things to qualify as a meal replacer for me. You can make em once every few days, so they're perfect for when you haven't got time to cook.

Glenwils
02-18-2009, 01:16 PM
rdj, what are your thoughts on the 6 small meals a day? Ever done it? I work shifts so I think it's going to be a right pain in the ass planning and cooking alot of different small meals.

rdj, what are your thoughts on the 6 small meals a day? Ever done it? I work shifts so I think it's going to be a right pain in the ass planning and cooking alot of different small meals.

Been doing it for years, if I go back to 3 meals a day I'll be either full or starving. Not every meal is cooked, a quick meal would be trail mix (nuts and raisins) and a glass of milk for example. Smoothies are also a quick meal, ideal for during shifts.

TheRock49
02-18-2009, 10:14 PM
I started doing the 6 meal a day thing (though I do five) in December and weighed 168, fought at 165. Im now weighing around 152-155 waking around. I havent lost any of my strength, stamina, anything, I think I just got a lot leaner and a little quicker. So I would highly suggest it.

Like RDJ said a simple shake can replace a meal. I make mine a smoothie too, but I add a scoop of protein mix. Like today I had one for meal number.... 3 I think it was. Half a banana (ate the other half), about 6 strawberries, half a blueberry light yogurt (ate the other half again...), skim milk, ice, and a scoop of banana cream muscle milk. Was quite satisfing and tasty.

Good day fellas.

Started my 5 meal a day thing yesterday went ok. Heres what i ate..

Meal 1
Small bowl of bran flakes
Semi skimmed milk

meal 2
2 scrambled eggs
Wholemeal toast
Low fat spread

Meal 3
Protien shake
1 large apple

Meal 4
Fruit salad

Meal 5
Ham sandwhich
Low fat spread
Wholemeal bread

I was quite happy with it to be honest. Not that much preparation involved in the meals. Il be making fruit smoothies on pay day once i buy a blender. And maybe trading the protien shake with the smoothie. I felt alot fuller through th whole day and didnt feel as if i needed anything else (un healthy snacks).

RDJ
02-20-2009, 07:11 AM
Cheers Glen. Definitely trade in the protein shake although it's not really trading in, you can add some whey to the smoothie as well if you want. Try sneaking in some veggies later on, they hardly provide calories but loads of nutrients.

Yeah i do love my veggies, i usually steam them as i heard steaming keeps alot more nutriants inside. Just about to have meal number 2. Might make a small bowl of tuna pasta.

About the smoothie you can always just add the protein powder to it if you don't think you can get enough protein from other foods. Also what times are you eating you meals?

Ive booked up a holiday to magaluf in August and i want a half decent bod for them slags to be repulsed by. My goal for August is to get down to 13stone. Still loads to lose but i think if i carry on going the way i am, it shouldnt be a problem.

Il try get some pics together.
