What's so special about it?
Its a whole grain that boasts a rather high complete protein profile (9 critical amino acids, very high in lysine) So this is an ideal protein source even for Vegans. Very, very rare to find a non meat that has a complete protein profile.
Also supplies manganese, magnesium, copper in healthy amounts. Making it ideally good for cardiovascular health. Good source of fibre as well..
Qualifies as a superfood in my book.

Do they sell these at super markets?
Spinach KO1 quinoa ;)
Seriously though. It's a good source of nutrients, but compared to loads of other natural foods it's just one of many.
Its a grain man.. Compare it to other grains, not veggies. So you could have this instead of potatoes, Yams, Pastas, beans, and other carbs sources. The nice thing is it is a legit source of protein.
Yeah, its sold in supermarkets usually in small boxes the same way couscous is usually sold.

You said superfood so I compared it to a superfood, I chose spinach because of its very complete amino acid profile. Various nuts, seeds, legumes and vegetables beat the living shit out of it. It's decent but nothing more than that.
Oh, and fuck vegans :D
You don't understand my point. Vegans, since they don't eat meat need to eat a variety of foods to provide them with the essential 9 amino acids, Quinoa has all of them, and is ideal for a Vegan trying to get their proteins, which is my point.
You want to try and get your essential amino's and protein from spinach? Go ahead, you CANT.
You use this food in place of your complex carb, IE brown rice, because instead of just getting fibre and slow burning carbs, you get a nice cardio supporting vitamin and mineral profile as well as a legit complete protein.

Is it expensive?
Less than $4.00 a pound. A good brown rice around 3/4 the price, so a little more expensive.

I did not miss that point, spinach has 8 of them. As far as I know there are 8 essential amino acids. In other words yes you can.
I read up on it a bit more and it turns out to be not a grain but a seed btw. Which explains a lot, some other seeds have good amino acid profiles as well, pine nuts (seeds) for example. I may have to reconsider it not being a superfood in all honesty.

Compared to rice, bread and pasta it's a killer no doubt.
Consider it reconsidered. My excuse is that I was prejudiced because of the word grain :D
My bad, it is a seed.
Yeah, a lot of people hate grains :P
I've been on a quest to go "superfood" only lately, so I'm trying to compile a list of "RDJ approved foods". Grains, pasta and such are not on the list, but seeds are. It's a big list already, that's why I personally think the term superfood is overrated. I added quinoa to the list, next time I'm in the supermarket I'll see if I can find it.

Why no oranges? Just cos they're cheap doesn't mean they're not banging.
