this may sound like a stupid matchup: a former (wbo) champ and title challenger against a freak show boxer, BUT i would favor esch over briggs: a) he has the better stamina (sad but true), b) throws more punches, c) has the better chin and his right ain't less powerful.
don't dismiss this potential match as nonsense, think about it and write something...

Sorry, but it is a stupid match-up. Just look at some of the guys Butterbean has lost to;Kenny Craven; Billy Zumbrun. As far as I know, he's never beaten a top 50 guy. He's never been 12 rounds. Shannon Briggs, for all his faults, would have no problem with Butterbean. My guess is is KO the bean within three.

I still give the bean a serious chance to outpoint him over 4

If Briggs is only fighting a four rounder he's not going to try to save energy the way he does for a 10-12 rounder. He can let it all hang out.

It's relatively apparent from his recent performance that there's nothing left to "hang out".

the funny thing is butterbean surely would lose a 4-rounder, but he would have much better chances over 10 or 12. briggs is the most likely top 30 guy to lose against esch.

I think he'd look like a world-beater if he fought Butterbean, a guy at least two notches below SI. (And that's beimng generous.) On top of that, Butterbean is a guy who come forward all the time and wings punches. Any semi-decent fighter can block or avoid those shots. And I would doubt that the bean has ever been hit by anybody with Briggs' power.

This is absurd. Le Bean, however entertaining, was/is a fat sideshow with some boxing ability. Shannon Briggs may be a disappointing top-class heavyweight, but he beat Sergei Liakovich in the 12th round last year. Mr. Lima-Bean has never even been 12 rounds. Briggs would whip him post to post for 4, 8, or 12 rounds- however long or short you like. My favorite southern french dish? Cassoulet- a well cooked mix of goose and white Beans- and that is that's what the fat man would be.

stranger things have happened in boxing. to make it clear i'm not talking about the 1997 briggs. the 2007 version can't win on points because he throws ten punches max. per round. and butterbean surely wouldn't go down in the first three rounds. if butterbean connects with his 400 pounds he can get the tired briggs in trouble.

I'd love to see Butterbean knock Briggs right the fuck out.

RonnieHornschuh- Briggs who admittedly looked terrible in his last fight -knocked out Liakovich in the last round in 2006. SL is a very good top level heavyweight. BB has never even faced a top class heavyweight much less beaten one-unless you consider a geriatric Holmes (who incidentely beat the kidney-Bean). You're comparing apples and oranges. Briggs is a HUGE dissapointment. He is slow, his conditioning is for shit and in his last fight even his vaunted power was dissapointing, but....he is a high level pro boxer. BB is a fat sideshow. I've boxed some myself-there are a lot of guys like butterbean, ok athletes, some power, some grit and all that-bean got recongnized because he's a wierdo. S Briggs is someone who on a good night, in proper shape has the ability to beat almost anyone-he's a real, talented, pro athelete. Albeit a hugely disspointing one. but it's like saying can the guy who's been shaking up 12th grade calculus class beat the lazy failed mathmatician at a math test, no way-it's a totally different thing INMO.

Butterbean hasnt only gone 10 rounds once,
butterbean in his prime got his ass whopped over 10 rounds by a 50 YEAR OLD Larry holmes.
Butterbean got his fat ass sent to the canvas by a tomato can who had no wins on his record.
A heart attack is more likely to get butterbean before he tries to get in with briggs.

They both fight on the bum circuit. Some how Briggs got a title shot fighting no hopers. Then Briggs landed a last second hail marry punch.
Briggs is an A level bum fighter. Butterbean is a C - level bum fighter.

briggs WAS an a-class fighter, but now all his abilities are gone. no movement, no combinations, jabs maybe 4 times in a round. he simply just stands there, huffs and puffs and waits to be hit. that win over liakhovich was incidental, it wouldn't happen again. so everybody who does not go down in the first three has a very good chance.
