View Full Version : Daniel Geale: How good is he?
He's ranked no.10 at MW by Ring Mag now. Can he go on to be a world champ?

He is good, he has boxing skill . . . He doesnt have much of a punch, something that could hurt him at top level . . . I need to see more of him against top level competition to make a final decision . . . I would say he has the skills to stay with the big boys at the top, but a bit of lack in power and overall finesse may cost him against top dogs such as Pavlik and Abraham . . . Had a good AM career

nothing i've seen in him so far, makes me think he can beat the top fighters at 160
but i hope he can prove me wrong

Who knows how good he is until he fights someone who is genuine world level. He looks a good tidy boxer with limited power at 160 for someone who might be considered top 20 in the world. The jury is well and truly still out imo. The fight he is having tomorrow night is a joke even if it is a stay busy fight. Lets see him fight someone like Raul Marquez who just lost to Abraham. That would be a good next step.

good skill, not a big puncher, not yet top 10.
to be honest ring mag are losing it in their ratings lately.
no longer as "accurate" as they used to be in the fans eyes.

He needs to more active with better oposition, the only guy he has fought is Dawson and he was an embarassment to Australian boxing last month getting smashed by Bruce Mcfie in a kickboxing fight (all in the hand department).

Dan is a silky smooth boxer. His power is limited but his skill is second to none in the Oz MW scene. I had the Privlidge of sparing a few rounds with him back as Am's down in canberra. Top bloke, not a mean bone in his body. I dont see him holding up well against the likes of AA, SS or Pavlik but he is still has alot to do. Best of luck.

I spoke to his old coach a few nights ago.
He is very disapointed in how he is being managed atm, and i agree, its totally fucked how he is kept waiting for a decent fight, his managment should have had him over in the U.S by now...FFS, he has the IBO middle world title, like guys wouldnt want that fight!!!
G Gorge also said he is losing some of his technique, and is being hit way to easy..that used to be his thing, no one could tag him clean.
Sadly now he seams happy to trade inside, thats not Geale, not the Geale i wanna see anyway.
Drop the matchmaker....move to the U.S and win some decent money Dan...you should have left RSL fights behind a long time ago.
just my piece, Dan is still my fav boxer, but he is gettin fucked in the ass by Grange imo.

The Geale and Dawson fight was a great build up to a good fight. It would have been apprecited by all who follow and back Geale get to see him fight at that level from then on IMO.
As for Dawson being an embarrassment to Aussie boxing Pffft, he was doing Scott a favour to help make that night worth going to. I hear his Battlextreme promotions are going to be a hit next year in Perth.

Hello Shiner
Have you spoken to Daniel?
His main focus is on pro boxing and Battlextreme.
I really like Geale, seems to be a good bloke and I like his fighting style.
He isn't the hardest puncher, but he is technically quite good, evasive skills are reasonable, but his best attribute is being able to keep his cool when pressured.
He couldn't keep up with the best right now, but he's only young and has a long way to go. Having said that, he wouldn't be a walk over for anyone.
I think he has very good potential if pointed in the right direction.

don't need to just giving real feed back of people here in perth. change of opponent 5 days out yet no one told?! worse still "new" fight lasted 30 seconds. most fighst were "crap". still charged top $'s, even as much as green charged at his shows were were 10 levels above! positives were the actual production of the event.

Geale is a good young fighter who needs to step up in quality of opposition. He should know by now from team fenech that feeding off stiffs doesn't prepare you for when your fighting for the title. Its time he fought Soliman as a gauge to see where he stands.

I'm not going to argue the point in a thread devoted to a good aussie boxer.
I will be watching the fights tonight, supporting Geale and watching Lenny.
Thanks for the info guys :good

Good post
I have been impressed with Geale since i saw him Ko Dom Devanna on Fox.
I fell he has good skils, but its not worth having them if you are not fighting.
ALso in his last fight against Geard i was not totally impressed with that fight.

I dont understand how people can get on here and say he is being badly managed. They have helped get him a world title and a world rating and top ten at that. Boxrec have him at number 4. From what ive seen i think he can mix with the best in his division. I hate how aussie bag our own fighters, i just dont get it, all these threads baggin geale, kicket, zappa. There undefeated fighters except kicket but that was luck and i dont think it will happen again. Kicket is my favourite fighter and the most talented prospect by far.

i think u read wrong mate. i dont see anyone bagging geale.
im a huge fan from his home town and i chatted to his old coach who had him for ten years. and what i posted is basicly what he said.
sure he got the world title shot, but he has gone backwards since then.
grange must be tight with the cash, cause a fuck load of guys would love to fight for the IBO belt.
dont you think he should go the the US and really test himself. he needs to sign to a american promoter now, grange wanna make money off him and im cool with that, but Dan should get someone with the right conection overseas. grange gym is a great brand and good for aussie boxing, but they should be only training him and let the big suits do the numbers and contracts.

12-05-2008, 06:31 AM
thats fair enough mate, i think the grange have done well for him up until now, next year he would want to start pickin it up and maybe thats the plan. Maybe they are trying to build up a few more fights before they launch him in to fight top ten opponents. Time will tell hey. But you are right in saying if the grange dont get him some big fights next year there doing him no favours.

Geale doesnt look to capitalize and follow up with shots..
Sure he looks skillful and a class above against ordinary opponents,
but on what I seen last night - he aint getting near Mundine in
a hurry, even though as some have pointed out, that Mundine is
on the decline - he would account for Geale easily.

He is going to get beaten badly.

yeah, they just want the money mundine brings and they know that if they dont take the fight and money now, they might not get another opportunity.
because its only a matter of time, before he gets beat by one of these bums he keeps fighting and then the mundine fight wont be available to him

Geale is good...solid fighter....but hes not as fast as Mundine.
Geale has never faced a fighter as quick and as evasive....look for "hit and run" to win by 4 rounds

I see a very wide points win to Geale , even a late stoppage :good

Yeah...I think Fenech called Mundine that as well.....one year later Mundine had KO most of Jeffs fighters.....then few years on he was saying the same thing....then Green got wooped :hey
No downside in Geale getting beaten in this fight....but if Mundine gets beaten then its almost over for him

This fight will definately show us where Geale stands in terms of potential world champion. My concerns with Geale in this fight is can he find a way to nullify mandys speed & does he have enough power in his hands to back mandy off or KO him. Its going to be a very interesting fight.

I think the answer to all of those questions is NO :deal
Geale doesn't have the power to KO Mundine
Geale doesn't have the strength to tie him up
Geale doesn't have the speed to beat Mundine to the punch
Geale doesn't have any height or reach advantage
Geales only hope is landing a great combo and stopping Mundine or to get Mundine to fight toe to toe.....we all know that last one wont be on......and if Geale was a noted KO artist then I would give him a punchers chance.....but he aint :nono

Your always one punch away from disaster ash. The 1 geale fight that stands out was the dawson fight in which he completely shut him down. Many picked dawson to walk thru geale but we all know the outcome. He's a live underdog & a much better fighter than the tomoto cans mandy has been fighting of late.

geales ko ratio is better than ottkes.mundine wont fear him because of his lack of power and that will be his downfall.lets not forget that mandy has survived against noted punchers like green, kessler without being dropped but has been put on his arse by feather fisted fighters like ottke, nishy dishy and crazy kim.Geale ko 10.
