Peter looks like he needs to shed quite a few pounds before the fight. His face looks pretty bloated.
Maskaev can outbox Peter much like he done Rahamn, but Peter can probably end the fight with one punch anytime. So Maskaev cant make any mistakes, like he boxed flawless against Rahman avoiding his power.
It will be intresting to see how Peter resonds to Maskaevs power, we all think Maskaev could be KO'd if Peter lands big. But what happens if Maskaev lands a bomb threw Peters crude defense?

That always seems to be the key, to not get nailed. Maskaev simply has too much experience & as long as he doesn't screw up (getting nailed), he'll win. It would be amazing if he could mangage to KO Peter. But thats alot of thick skull to crack.

Who has Peter KO'd? Jeremy Williams, Julius Long, the Cuban that keeps getting KO'd over and over , those arent exactly great chins, lol.

Toney is a fat MW, who is probably washed up now. Didnt Danny batchelder shake up Toney as well? I remeber reading a report that said Toney was hurt in the 9th round. I recall seeing a GIF of toney getting hit by a left hook by Batchelder and doing a little dance.

Althought im not saying Peter will win, just saying, he can slug... I dont care who wins this fight because neither of the mwould beat Vitali in my opinion.

peter hasn't ko'd any significant opponent yet because he is still young. wait until he is 38, then there will be some good names on his record. maskaev is no boxer, but for a slugger his chin is too bad. he can't slug with some peter, because peter surely won't go down first.

Yes, Vitali is probably looking forward to beating the living hell out of either one of these guys, so he is in a win/win situation.

I disagree, Maskaev has always had good boxing skills. Just his chin has let him down several times. Maskaev is not a crude slugger like Peter.
Maskaev really used ring movement effectively against Rahman and then KO'd him late. Maskaev should use his feet in this fight as well , I dont think Peter is the swiftest fighter moving around the ring.

While Peter is no boxing masterpiece, I certainly hope Maskaev himself isn't quite buying into all this 'crude clumsy slugger' stuff as much as some people are. It was this assumption that got Toney on the end of a bad points loss where a bit more preperation and respect could've got him through that.
I credit Maskaev with more brains than that.

i didn't say maskaev is a pure slugger, but he is no technician either who jabs and tries to make the opponent fight according to his gameplan. he is no wladimir who showed how to fight peter: jab, get out of the way and throw in the occasional straight right. maskaev will probably at some time in the fight try to trade punches which is the worst idea. when sam connects with anything (rabbit punch, wild hook etc.) he will be on him and then it's pretty much over.

People are really delusional about this fight - it is a MISMATCH. Peter is a young, up and coming powerpuncher, facing a glass jawed veteran who's grabbed some glory late in his career.

Young don't mean skilled. Being a powerpuncher don't mean you can land your power.
facing a glass jawed veteran who's grabbed some glory late in his career.
Yes, Maskaev has grabbed glory here recently for a reason; because he's ON HIS GAME, these days.
And that aspect, that that caused him to grab glory, is what will also see him through to a win over Peter, regardless of how young and much of a powerpuncher that he is.

Peter looks really heavy and seems to have training issues. Remember he was in great shape against Wlad at 243 which allowed him to survive. 257 for Toney I and 249 for Toney II. When people say he has improved, I think it has more to do with his weight and quality of opponent.
Of course he looked better in the second toney fight, he was in better shape. If he comes in around 260, Oleg could easily take a decision. Right now I favor Peter 55-45 due to his heart, chin, and youth but Oleg is one tough dude!
i think masquev will win also.....just a hunch

Peter has lot's of time to get in shape....even if he's not, I assume he will be in good shape and that wouldn't be a problem.

Good thing Peter has all these people believing he is a hard puncher because his record sure as hell doesn't suggest it. Besides beating up bums he hasn't done anything except beat a shot Toney, and he LOST the first fight and was gifted, then Toney was incredibly super shot in the second fight.
Scam Cheater cannot beat Maskaev. He's probably getting knocked out in the process. He looks completely out of shape.

How about the ability to throw a good straight right hand.:think
For Peter, he could only do that in his wildest dreams, the haymaker throwing fool.

Peter is a verry thick guy and when hes in clothes he always looks like a fatass but hes rock solid. I guess he weighs 260-270 pounds now, no problem, he can easy loose 20 pounds in training camp. And i will not blame him if he comes in a few pounds higher as in his last fight because this was the longest off time he had in his carreer. Even wehen he comes over 250 he will beat Maskaev. They wanted to fight Maskaev already in April. But because old bullshit Maskaev team they needed so long the make this fight happen.

Sorry, but that dont seem right. If you bet 500 dollars on Maskaev and win, you win 600 $ . If you bet 600 on Peter and win you get 500 $. That is not even close to 6 to 1 odds $ on betting.

I think that Maskaev might pull this off. He does punch hard (altough not hard enough to KO Peter with one punch) and he's tactically savvy enough to maybe take Peter down the stretch.

To me, this fight is very much of the Cooney-Norton variety. I was around back in those days, and I well remember how fans - and the boxing press - were overrating Norton, saying he was too experienced for Cooney and the like, and IGNORING the fact that he had a VERY questionable chin and was going up against a hard puncher.
I will be very surprised if the outcome of this fight isn't very much like that of Cooney-Norton. Nine times out of ten it is - and Peter has already proven more than Cooney did before facing Norton.

Toney knows how to slip punches which prevents his opponents from clocking him square. Best chin in history? Yea, maybe for a middleweight. Lots of heavyweights can shake Toney, it's just that Toney hasn't faced them yet.

The odds are 6 to 5 in favor of Peter , not 6 to 1. The fight is almost even among gamblers acctually.
No offense, but you've got that wrong. These can be confusing, but here's how it works;
Postive odds, as in +500 Maskaev, means that if you bet $100 on Maskaev-the underdog, you'll win $500 profit, (you'll get $600 back- the bet of $100, and a profit win of $500) The positive number is what you'll win on a $100 bet. Its a 500% return on investment, so to speak.
Negative odds, as in -600 Peter, means that you'll have to bet $600 in order to win $100 profit on Peter-the favorite. The negtive number is what you'll have to bet in order to win $100. Your initial bet of $600 will get you back $700- your initial bet of $600, plus a profit winning of $100. Which is roughly a 16.6% return on investment.
When the betting odds are near 100 plus or minus, the odds are close, but if they are far off from 100, as they are here, the odds are heavily in favor of one fighter over the other.
But I think Maskaev, at +500 odds, is going to make alot of people a sh*t pot ful of money when Oleg wins this fight.

"Fight or Flight", Yeah Right!
I guess its all how you percieve things. But you have to admit that Sam does look like a 300 lb. oinker.
Sam looks emotionless, which to me is like being frozen, a deer in the headlights. While Oleg seems to have a little smirk, like he's conveying his confidence to Sammy boy in a very positive way.
This fight will be the skilled vs the unskilled. Power vs even more power. Staright punches to the chin vs haymakers to the back of the head. And if Peter doesn't stay away from Burger King, he won't make it past 8/9 rounds. Thats when Maskaev digs down deep to show him how its done.
