View Full Version : Was Miranda's power overrated?

He couldn't knock out Varela who had been knocked out in the first round. He couldn't take Green out who was laid out by some tomato can. He did stop Eastman but it might have been a premature stoppage and Willie Gibbs was pretty much shot when he fought him. Do you think Miranda's power was overrated by some?

Miranda undoubtably has great power, however that can usually be neutralized with great boxing skills.

no, the guy has great power. Never saw the first fight you are talking about, but Green stayed away from him the whole damn fight and still got knocked down. Green just wanted to survive and not win.

Yeah Green STUPIDLY stayed away from him the whole fight and fought very passive . . . that's why Miranda won. :D
. . . if only Green fought actively and aggresively Miranda couldn't have recovered from the KD. He looked completely STUNNED and LOST after the KD but the LAZY Green gave him all the time to recover.

When you get hit by a punch like that then usually you have this feeling that comes over your body known as Fear. Green was shitting his pants...The power of Miranda's right hand definitely needs to be respected, but guy is sloppy and doesn't know how to box just land the hammer. I hope he looks better at 168 and with such freakishly long arms I don't know why he doesn't have an unbelievable jab you'd think that would be their weapon of choice....I could see Emanuel Stewart Trianing Miranda...
I don't know if any of you notice but Stewarts fighters all have the same style, their knockout punch is their right hand, they pitter patter the jab alot and circle around the ring without throwing many hooks all straight punches.....Wlad,kermit,Taylor..Miranda would fit right into the bunch.

If Green had fought him more aggressively, it's likely Green would have been KO'd before he ever KD Miranda. And Miranda wasn't hurt, clearly just off balance. He was up immediately and fighting immediately.

When Miranda tries to hook with those freakishly long arms he looks Dreadful in doing so..This guy needs to be trained to throw nonstop straight punches with a piston like jab and a counter right cross..Then we'd be talking $$ But I doubt Miranda will change trainers being that his trainer is like a father to him.

Miranda will bounce back, hopefully they find someone to utilise his physical abilities with a superior skill set. The guy has an awesome long jab and needs to develop better timing, defence and footwork and I think he'll easily be within the divisions elite.
He'll always own a guy like Green. He has the power, just lacks the skill to set it up properly.
People who think he was a hype job need to look at his level of competition, he was one of the few fighters currently who'd literally sign to fight anybody and I mean back to back and never bitch about money.

There is absolutely nothing overrated about a boxer who can shatter a mans jaw and make him require a bazillion screws to reconstruct it. Miranda has UNBELIEVABLE power with 0 technique...If he had any kind of technique his power would Multiply...

The power is there but the lack of overall skill was apperrant during the Abraham fight.
Eastman also showed that Miranda can be hurt.

Yeah I think Miranda had good power but there were a couple guy's he didn't knockout that he should have like Jose Valera and this guy who was 6-17. And Pavlik was kind of hurt by Zuniga and Zertuche but not by Miranda. I know Pavlik has a good chin and all but you think he would have put a little hurt on Pavlik.

he has great power stopping iron chinned eastman
breacking abrahams jaw in 2 places.
he has a stunning one shot abilty. he is just an untrained fighter thats all not overated just not perfected.
look at sam peter we all knew his awful boxing abilty but after the toney rematch we saw a jab ,the abilty to turn southpaw and a streight punch...he even danced thats amazing with only a 1/4 year to change from hammer to tanker.
or even juan urango.light welter who before was a tyson moniker with awful movment and tools. but look at him against hatton and he improved.
miranda should of got back in the ring and totally oblitarated a super middlewieght.
and good call by jecxbox saying manny.s as his trainer he would be a perfect choice. long reach ,rather tall, right hand and fighting instincts. tommy hearns in colmbian form if he had trained by any us trainer.
but the jab comment this is the man who has coached tommy hearns maybe top 5 jab of all time, wlad klit who is a great jabber,
and forget the left hook.hearns and wlad have great left hooks(espeacially the left hook to the body)

Nah Bruh . . . Miranda looked as if he is going to cry after the KD and he looked confused . . . if Green attacked him immediately after that the fight could have been over, but nah maybe STUPID Green thought he could win by just coasting along until the last round . . . so he got KDed himself and lost the fight. :D

According to Miranda's camp, he will be back in October at super middleweight , opponent yet to be named, and wanting another shot at
Pavlik, someday.Being from Youngstown and a big Pavlik fan...I can't
see it.

Miranda can punch all right.
But so can most contenders.
Most contenders have decent chins.
Most are very durable, and can slip. block, pary, counter and fight.
To be a champ --- there is more to it than just a punch.

I think his power is very legit. If his skills were better, his power would be even more pronounced.
Which is why I think Jermaine Taylor is in real trouble against Pavlik. Kelly took Miranda's shots and hardly flinched. Not a good sign for JT.

I think that Miranda needed to be on the front foot for his power to be effective. He doesn't have the ability to counter punch and utilise that same power, or even close. When Pavlik pushed him back he simply could not handle it.

Miranda undoubtably has great power, however that can usually be neutralized with great boxing skills.you said it. some people think kos only come from power. you can be the hardest puncher alive, if you lack skill, accuracy, timing and such, you will look very ordinary.

he's definitely got good power, KOing eastman aint no joke. hes got a lot of flaws though. he's always got his right hand cocked back waiting to unload, which his opponent can see a mile away. the only other punch i've seen him throw is that wide sweeping left hook, which again can easily be countered. he just needs a good trainer to get him a little more well rounded i.e maybe work on a stiff jab to complement that insane reach he's got, tighter left hook, throw more straight punches. i picked him to win against pavlik, and i havent gotten off the miranda express after that loss. as i've been saying boxing needs more guys like miranda. the guy fights anybody without fussing about money, and staying in there not quitting while getting his ass kicked by hard punching pavlik showed what he's made of. hopefully the guy comes back strong in SMW.

Overrated.
He's got a good punch, but it was so far overrated from the Gibbs fight it wasn't even funny.
