View Full Version : Alvarez out of Macca fight-fails medical!!!!
:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl
Sky Sports article:
Enzo Maccarinelli has been left without an opponent for his bid to reclaim the WBO Cruiserweight title after last minute stand-in Francisco Alvarez failed a medical.
The Puerto Rican stepped in after original opponent Johnathan Banks suffered an ankle injury in training, but failed to make the weight by just a quarter of a pound.
Alvarez was given two hours to shed the excess but then failed a medical owing to a high blood pressure reading. Promoter Frank ****** is still hoping to secure an opponent for Maccarinelli, although the title will not now be up for grabs.
The Welshman had replaced Nicky Cook as the Judgement Night bill-topper after Stephen Foster Jnr had to withdraw from challenging the WBO super-featherweight champion after a bout of 'flu.
It now leaves Amir Khan heading the night of domestic action on his return to the ring, although he also struggled to make the weight - having to discard his underwear to make the lightweight limit.
After Irishman Oisin Fagan had weighed in at 9st 8.5lbs, Khan was slightly over the limit so, with a towel covering his modesty, had to weigh-in naked, coming in bang on the 9st 9lbs limit this time around.

BBC article:
Enzo Maccarinelli's bid to reclaim the WBO cruiserweight title on Saturday is off after opponent Francisco Alvarez failed the pre-fight medical.
Alvarez, 31, stepped in at two days' notice after Johnathon Banks withdrew with an ankle injury.
But the Puerto Rican needed two goes to make the 200lb weight limit before high blood pressure ruled him out.
A replacement opponent is being sought, but Maccarinelli will not fight for the belt.
The Swansea fighter is desperate to regain the WBO cruiserweight crown he lost to David Haye in March.
The Londoner vacated the belt to move up to the heavyweight division and it was announced early last month that Maccarinelli would fight again for the WBO title.
Banks pulled out after injuring himself during a training session and it looked as if controversial Herbie Hide would fill the void left by the American.
But with a fight between Maccarinelli and Hide seemingly agreed, the Englishman withdrew at the last minute, leaving world-ranked number 15 Alvarez to step in.
"I was happy when I heard it was Herbie Hide because he's the only man I really can't stand in boxing," said Maccarinelli.
"He's been saying a lot of things about me so it would have been nice to shut his mouth up. But he didn't want it."
Banks was number one contender in the WBO list while Maccarinelli is third in the WBO rankings and veteran Hide fourth.
Frank ******'s matchmaker, Dean Powell, said that having agreed terms with Hide, the Norwich fighter had changed his mind at the last minute.
"Herbie Hide agreed to the fight, and he agreed in a separate call with (British Boxing Board of Control Secretary) Robert Smith," explained Powell.
"He told Robert Smith that he was going to fight and was going to have a check weigh-in, but he never went to the check weigh-in on Wednesday."

and it turns out part of the offer for the Enzo fight was for Hide to drop a law suit agaisnt ******.
Former WBO heavyweight champion and current cruiserweight contender Herbie Hide has commented on allegations from Sport Network that he agreed to fight Enzo Maccarinelli in London tomorrow, but then disappeared. "****** and Maccarinelli have told everybody I would be running away from them – that’s just not true! I'm here and ready to go," states Hide. "In fact, Frank ****** knew all the time where I was. I have been in court with him because he still owes me money. Fact is that they offered me the fight only if I dropped the court case in return. I always said that I would take the fight as long as it doesn’t affect any legal issues I have to solve with ******." Hide and ****** met in court on Wednesday. "I told ******, the BBBoC and my promoter Ahmet Öner that I would take on Maccarinelli whenever he wants. It’s too bad that they already found some nameless tomato can for tomorrow.....as far as the 'Big Mac' is concerned, I will enjoy eating him alive! I heard Maccarinelli said I was the one guy in boxing he didn’t like. Well, guess what, Enzo, when we meet in the ring I will be the one guy who really tears you apart. If you think David Haye can punch just wait until you feel the power of the 'Dancing Destroyer.' I will wipe the canvas with your a** wherever and whenever you want."

I feel so bad for Enzo poor guy.Maybe now the Hide fight will happen for the vacant WBO after he said he'd fight Enzo if given proper notice
Yeah, this is bad for Enzo and I've got nothing against him. It's ****** who's the prick and deserves this shit.

Frank ****** can get him the WBO belt and maybe another unification down the line so Enzo can't be blamed for signing with him

Yes he can, no one forces him to do it. The WBO belt is shite, it depends what he wants to make of himself.

Don't get me wrong,I hate FW every bit as much as you,but Enzo clearly wants to win back the WBO belt and that is almost a certainty if hes signed on with SN.

If you want a list of reasons, you'll hve to give me a few weeks to compile a definitive list.
In this case, he makes his fighter (Maccarinelli) look like a complete dick stood next to some fat, short Central American that nobody has heard of up until Wednesday for a world title. The same short, fat guy wasn't anywhere near the top 15 rankings on Tuesday. If ****** was to pull this stunt off, it would have to be crackless. The guy comes in, looks in shape, weighs in well and off you go. Instead, he comes in overweight, fails a medical and looks like he's been down the pub for the last few weeks. If ****** was so "professional", he'd have found this out in advance.

How do you 'professionally' find out that someone is going to fail a medical in advance of them taking it?
That's the point of a medical, isn't it?

We'll have to see what the actual medical reason is but I very much doubt that it's anything that couldn't have been found out in advance.

If Fwank couldn't get a better opponent in at such short notice, you can bet your arse that one wasn't available for anywhere close to the money on offer. Big blow for Macca....big disappointment...but let's not get carried away now....it wasn't Fwank's fault. You cannot plan for all eventualities when you promote so many other important fights on the same night.;)

What irks is that he'd tried to palm this off as a genuine challenge for the WBO title. I have no problem in Enzo fighting a last minute bum NOT for a supposedly meaningful championship or even pushing his fight back a few weeks.

Yeah...but that's ****** for you and we've known that since forever. His motto is: if you can get away with it, you should! Doesn't mean he's screwed up; on the contrary - he's a promoter that overachieves; they were just unlucky this time.

Ha!
Enzo may still fight, and to be honest it would be a shame to waste all that training, but it won't be for the vacant WBO belt...in which case, while this whole situation is laughable, at least we and Enzo will be spared the farce of him knocking over this schlub to become a 'champion'.
Enzo should just get rid of whoever steps in ASAP, and do whatever he can to get either Banks or Hide in the ring for that vacant belt as soon as humanly possible. You could have that fight ready for the end of January or early Feb, even.

The thing is ****** is probably the best promoter in britain, despite all the shortcomings, certainly the biggest name promoter and importantly has the most money...
Imo, other than Calzaghe, Hatton and perhaps Haye, talent is pretty thin in british boxing right now...there are a few decent youngsters with potential but where is the next star...
****** does bloody well considering...you can't account for someone pulling out at the last minute...and despite arguably overprotecting his fighters, and overhyping them, he makes money and that's what he's there to do...
Although it might well be best of a bad bunch...I don't know anyone else that's better as a promoter in britain.
