Actually DLH vs Duran at LW wouldn't have been a bad fight. DLH was a huge 135 and very strong and very fast there. It's only because of his popularity that people will bash this fight. But DLH destroyed nearly every 135lb fighter he fought.

But in his mind its not a competitive fight, and he listed it in the best fight of all time thread. :-(

Im just saying, if he wants to be a hater, at least keep it relevant.

Yeah, but at 135, Oscar only fought one world-class LW.

It would be a reasonably competitive fight, but I think it's a better matchup @ 147.

What would make Ali Tyson a great fight or even a fight better than Ali-Frazier? I'm not on that boat. I say Tyson gets outclassed & outboxed by Ali who wouldn't crumble.

Best fights:
Evander Holyfield vs. Joe Frazier
SRR vs. SRL
Duran vs. SSM
Mayweather vs. Aaron Pryor

guys be realistic, these below heavyweight matches , could never beat the heavyweight matches , so in theory , it would defintely be a heavyweight matchup like a....

Tyson v ali

Marciano v ali

dempsey v johnson

liston v foreman

There are certainly matches below HW which are better and more memorable than HW fights. Remember, the best fighter of all time is a WW.

True, but absence of fighting more great LW only indicates he can't be ranked against Duran as an ATG at that weight. H2H is a different story IMO. I think Duran would win, but DLH wouldn't be blown out.

I think there are two ways to approach this question. One is what should have happened but never, and the second way is what would have been dream fights. If we're talking one fight from each of these methods then:

For the first one I think Lewis -Bowe, would have been the fight worth seeing.

Mythical fights: Well that's almost an endless list but if down to one fight I'd probably pick Dempsey - Louis. or maybe Hagler - Hopkins, or maybe Duran - SSM, or maybe Duran - Pryor, or..

Fab2333
08-09-2007, 08:08 PM
That would actually be a good fight. ROy would win, but it would be good, Calzaghe's own speed of foot and hand combined with his workrate would be interesting to see how it meshes against Roy. Roy is my choice to win though for sure. Roy had harder problems with lesser fighters like Griffin, and we've never seen how he does against a fast in and out swarmer like Calzaghe. But again, don't get me wrong, I undoubtedly choose Roy.
Pea he had trouble against griffin b/c he didnt train for him really, that was when rj would train like 2weeks 4 a fight and go in there and box. But then after Griffin started talkin. RJ came out the next fight and delivered that brutal left uppercut. Thats all it would have took. If Calzaghe would have gotten under RJ skin. I think RJ would have damn near killed calzaghe by accident. It would b a good fight in all. BUt Calzaghe has never faced some1 with the speed agility and elusivenessof RJ. ITs easy to smother some1 when you are always faster than them, so you can outwork them. But aginst some1 thats faster than you and hits harder than you. Its a different story.

Wilfredo Gomez vs. Erik Morales at 122 (Although people will disagree, I think Morales would have beaten him).

The biggest fight I can imagine from fighters I am aware of is Chavez vs. Duran. Preferably at 135, but acceptable at 140. There really isn't anything bigger then this. Chavez was never defeated in his prime, he had incredible skill, incredible will and he could fucking hurt people. Duran is in the same class, and the same weight, had a similar skill set and is considered by many to be a top 5 all time great. You are talking about one of the ultimate wars in the history of the ring when you ponder this dream match up.

Toney was too inconsistent @ 160. Toney was also better when guys stood right in front of him so he could counter. Hagler might do that but if Toney has success, Hagler could fall back on his ability to use his legs and outbox him (actually it was more like he could fall back on his brawling and in-fighting if he couldn't use his legs and lateral movement and boxing skills).

Hagler probably outpoints him, troubling Toney a lot with the jab.
