I like Paul McCloskey here, tricky southpaw, saw about 3-4 of each fighters recent fights and McCloskeyis the classier act.
It probably depends on whether or not he is in shape, i think he is a late draft into the fight

Lynes blows hot and cold, should be a good fight

My tip is McCloskeyy on Points @ 2/1

It's definitely a point fight, but I think Lynes will be the one to edge it.
I'm not convinced McCloskey will be in great shape having been preparing for an 8 rounder, no matter what he says.

An interesting mesh of styles though and the winner will certainly look towards a European title shot in the near future. I didn't think Lynes deserved to lose to Branco and Paul's ambition has always beent he European belt.

Is it on TV? RTE or that?

I fancy Lynes. He shouldn't be able to miss McCloskey with his jab, not with that style of his.

McCloskey might look awkward to start with, but Lynes is the better 12 round fighter.

I'll tip my boy McCloskey for the UD.

mcloskey hurt!

nufc16
12-05-2008, 06:42 PM
managed to stay on his feet, but deffo hurt. lynes looks like he has the power and accuracy to hurt mccloskey.

first round about even, second round definitely goes to lynes.

one thing in mccloskeys favour is that lynes has not got the jab landing at all. better 3rd from mccloskey.

this is a good fight so far, mccloskey is doing well i have it even so far after rd 2

mccloskey wins rd 3 avoiding shots and catching lynes as he is coming in

SouthpawSlayer

mccloskey is doing very good, wins rd 4 and has hurt lynes

really loading up on his shots

nufc16

5th probably even. lynes not moving the head as much now, but i still get the feeling lynes could catch mccloskey again and hurt him as he did earlier. mccloskey so wide open after some of his wild swings.

I'm hoping that Lyno can come on strong down the stretch.

nufc16

6th to mccloskey. lynes doesnt look any nearer to getting to grips with mccloskeys style, and gotta be carefuly he doesnt let the rounds slip away.

7th to mccloskey, landed one lovely uppercut. looking a level above a very average lynes at the moment.

8th follows a similar pattern. mccloskey pulling away now and lynes looking pretty dejected and the corner telling him one more round. looks like he might quit or be pulled out.

nufc16
12-05-2008, 07:12 PM
lynes saying he cant do it in the corner. looks like he's gonna quit himself.

McCloskey looked great in there tonight.

A bit tight for the first two rounds, but then he got into his game and bossed it from then on in.

A massive result for Paul; stopping Lynes looks briliant on his CV; his best result yet by far.

Bring on Branco, Paul would murder him.

Well done Paul:good

think he'd struggle with that style at anything other than european level though. doesnt really seem to have serious power either. but good performance tonight anyway.

I see what you mean.

Paul has good enough reflexes at this level (lets admit it, he does rely on a reflex defence), but he does leave his chin out to dry a bit and lays his hands down too low, and it may cost him later on. Also, I'd like him to keep his punches more compact; looked all over the place when he went for those big swings and missed; he would get punished for that at a higher level.

But overall, at this stage of his development, he looked very good in there. I expected a much closer fight, but Paul just took the game away from Lynes and hammered him down the stretch; I loved the way he negated the jab by not just dodging it, but by moving to the side and ramming home the lead right hook, just to keep Lynes honest. In addition, although he did not land it every time, the uppercut (to both head and body) worked wonders for him and was, in my opinion, the key punch in the fight.

Hopefully he can rectify some of the gaps in his armour and go from strength to strength.

Once again I have got to say, a really good result for McCloskey that raises his profile substantially.:good

Lynes started ok but wen McCloskey adjusted Lynes just couldnt work him out. He has good headmovement and is pretty quick aswel as being a southpaw. Colin was trying everything he knew and it wasnt working, fair play to Paul though he pulled off a very good scalp.

Not really surprised with McCloskey winning, but winning by TKO is a shock

Lynes was very poor and bar about 10 seconds in the 2nd round he never did anything for the whole fight, i think this is partly because McCloskey is a snake of a fighter, very tricky indeed. In truth he was a class above Lynes anyways, far slicker and given the fact he had ONE weeks notice he did well

Had 420 on McCloskey on points but not unhappy with this outcome either

i think what the fight proved is that if lynes doesnt have the jab to work off, then his whole fight plan goes out of the window and he doesnt really seem to have any ability to think on his feet. i hope he comes back as he's great against certain types of fighters, but mccloskey was all wrong for him.

doesnt mccloskey have to face barnes now? would favour mccloskey based on this performance, but barnes is certainly more adaptable and less predictable than lynes so it'd be a closer fight imo.

Good performance by the Dungiven man.

Hes all action and has been fighting a good standard of opponent in Ireland over the last while. The thing I had to laugh at when i watched the fight again this morning is how the commentators started by saying that Lynes looked sharper and was landing the crisper shots, then suddenly when McCloskey grew into the fight and started to boss it the commentators are saying that Lynes has never really got going ... :think

I agree with the previous poster that Lynes looked bad because McCloskey made him look bad

Would Ajose consider a McCloskey fight or are you looking for a WBC eliminator?

We have been ordered to fight a title eliminator against Junior Witter so that is what we are going to do. Of course if McCloskey keeps winning and becomes a world contender when we win the WBC belt then all things are possible.
