“I’m not afraid of any of them. And that goes for Chuck Liddell, Quinton Jackson, Tito Ortiz and anyone else in the lightheavyweight division. I’m more well-rounded than all of them. I’ve still got holes in my game. The only guy who doesn’t is Fedor. But Irvin and I are working on it, fixing my flaws, hunting for his. It’s almost programmed, playing out as planned. I’ll be ready in 2008. And when Fedor slips, I’ll be there.”
– Undefeated UFC heavyweight star Brandon Vera — who has not fought inside the Octagon since late 2006 because of contract and management issues — is quoted on ABS-CBNNews.com as saying that he’s a more well-rounded fighter than some of the best in the sport … except for PRIDE FC Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko

Jesus... the dude fought 8 fights and already eyeballing Fedor. What an idiot. Concentrate on getting your fuckin contract straight and building up your record against someone who's not gatekeepers...
I hope he gets knocked out like CC, just to shut him up.

yea and while fedor is slipping he will be throwing a punch that knocks him out.
Yea when he slips he will be there setting down Fedors bags and helping him get up asking him politely to watch out for the black ice.

Vera`s got skills theres no questioning that. But the guys arrogance gets on my nerves. Everyone needs self belief but his is just pure arrogance. If he wants to showcase his talent come back to the UFC and make a diffrence at 205 or heavyweight and well reserve our judgement then.As for now all his blowing is hot air.

I can't really picture Vera beating Fedor, I posted a fairly big list of guys I think could win a fight if everything went right for them, but Vera just seems like the perfect matchup for Fedor to run through.

Yup, he doesn't have the size and strength to give Fedor problems, and he's good at everything but not great anything. Basically a smaller, weaker, less experienced, and less talented Fedor.

Gonzaga?:patsch Based on one fight, which wouldnt go the way it did 9 times out of 10! Youre getting carried away just like Vera with Gonzaga mate!

Gonzaga has been so grossly overrated over one fight it is silly.
Watch what Couture does to him....then we'll see if you'll still pick him to beat FEDOR.

You guys are taking this way overboard. The man is paying complete respect to Fedor. Saying that Fedor is the best in the world and doesn't have any holes in his game. As far as Fedor slipping, he is talking about Fedor is obviously only going to be kicking around in the sport for a few more years at the level that he is at now. Vera being as young as he is will be there to take the reigns when that happens. What is wrong with that? Do we now bash on athletes for striving to be the best?

We bash athletes for arragance. He respects Fedor, except he's saying how he'll be there when he's slipping. Once again, he did not do anything but beat couple of gatekeepers. He's talking about how his the most well rounded fighter in UFC205. Plus, he IS eyeing on Fedors greatness while he's nothing yet. I'm sorry but if some average fighter starts saying how when Fedor slips he'll be there to pick up for him thats arrogant and farsighted. Thats like saying he's going to be second only to Fedor. Do you not see that he's skipping all the fights JUST TO BECOME A CHAMPION?
It's like me saying when Shogun slips I'll be there. I haven't had a single amateur MMA fight... Do you see the point?

If you think that Brandon Vera is an average fighter, than you are not a big follower of MMA. The dude is an amazingly talented future Champion.

I agree. I like him too. I thought he paid Mir alot of respect before and after their fight. Who gives a shit if he's confident. Honestly, I would favor him over any 205lber right now. Maybe not Henderson :huh

MMK buddy. Tell me what he has done, or who he has beat that deserves that praise of him beating the likes of Liddell, Rampage, Handy, Ortiz or even people like Evans or Griffin? Why the fuck people suddenly think he's the best around, when he hasn't beaten anyone who are considered top fighters? Im not saying he's not talented and MIGHT be a top fighter in the future, but right now he is nothing but an average fighter building his record and about to BREAK INTO the 205 scene.
*EDIT* Also, when i say he's an average fighter, i mean that he is not a contender for championship. Guys like Lidell, Ortiz, Silva, Shogun and few others who are considered to be contenders for the belt. They are the top fighters.

nah i know he wasn't disrespecting fedor cause he even said that fedor is the only one who doesn't have holes in his game. I'm just having fun, but either way vera isn't in the position to be talking that stuff anyway.

That's nonsense. After Vera completely destroyed Frank Mir (former UFC Champion), the UFC was talking about putting Vera in against Sylvia. That match was about to be made before Vera became tangled up in legal battles with his management, and had to have the UFC give him an extension on his contract to finish up his conflict. So, Vera has already destroyed a former Champion and was about to get a title shot himself.

For me, gettin a title shot after beating gatekeepers is not warrented. In the UFC at the time he probably did deserve a title shot. Not today with the new faces from PRIDE. Plus, does anyone even know if he DID go down to 205 because i definitely remember him saying that he is going to. But either way, HW or LHW he needs to beat some contenders before getting a title shot. Frank Mir and Silva are the only 2 fights that give Vera's argument a little water.
I dont give a fuck how talented he is, if he doesn't beat TOP competition, he doesn't deserve a title shot.

And he was talking about fighting the Top Competition, so where is the problem? Where is your argument going, because now it seems like you are arguing him not deserving a title shot? I don't recall him complaining about he deserves a title shot, did he? I believe that he was saying that he was willing to fight any of the Top fighters out there, as he gave Fedor completely respect.

Really? Outside of Shogun, I can see Vera beating any of the other 205 pounders. Henderson would be tough of course, but I think that Vera may be too big for him. I definitely see Vera beating Liddell due to the styles. Vera is pretty great with his striking, and his ground game. Extremely well rounded fighter with seemingly endless potential.

He hasn't fought anyone of note at heavyweight either. Mir and Silva is not exactly worth a lot in your resume when you wanna start eyeing dominant greatness. I get the feeling you're Vera's friend or some shit. Or as sherdoggers would say "Vera's ball licker".

Are you kidding me? This is probably only the second time that I have ever even discussed Vera on any fight forum, and I have posted on Sherdog since 2002. It seems to me that you are a bit too emotional about these topics. A fighter talks about how he would like to fight all of the best guys in his division, while paying respect to Fedor by saying tha the is the only fighter out there without any holes in his game, and you guys cry like little girls.
I have been involved in MMA since 1999, and you guys honestly act like children. He needs a better resume before he can start eyeballing dominant greatness? Why is that? Obviously you have never competed in your life, because even as you start out in your career any decent coach is going to have you eyeballing being the best in the world from day one. What the hell is the point of being involved in the sport, if you aren't hell bent on being the best? Isn't that what every fighter is supposed to strive for?
I was trying to be polite, but since you decided to take to insults I will tell you what I really think. My guess is that you are an armchair fan who doesn't have any idea what the mentality of a true Champion is supposed be like. You probably sit around on the forums all day long critizing all of the real fighters on everything that they say and do with your left hand, while you are smashing a handful of doritos into your face with your right.
You guys who are acting like Vera has no right to simply strive to be the best in the world are only showing your lack of credentials. As far as Vera goes, I like him and wish him the best of luck. He has always been an extremely talented, and respectful fighter. Always gives his opponents great respect before and after his fights. As far as being anyone's "ball licker", I will leave that childish shit to you little girls who spend 95% of your day on here acting like fighters who's weapon of choice is a keyboard. I am a major fan and competitor in the sport of MMA. I am a fan of just about every fighter out there, outside of some people who I know in the business to be pricks. Yet I am level headed enough to be able to comprehend what Vera said into him wanting to fight the best, realizing that there are still holes in his game, realizing that Fedor is the only fighter out there without holes in his game, and striving to one day be at that mark himself. If there is something wrong with that, then you probably shouldn't bother following the sport.

We do seem to have several competitors here at ESB, in boxing, MMA, and even a few in other martial arts. It would be interesting sometime to organize a tournament of sorts, or series of tournaments.
In any event, you have piqued my curiosity. Do you compete as an amateur or a professional? What is your record, if you don't mind my asking?
