three very hard hitting fighters specially lyle and shavers ,however marciano could punch and take one. shavers had problems with stamina while lyle could go 15. either of these guys got a shot against the rock? i would expect very brutal fights from these.

I think a fair argument can be made that Marciano was a harder hitter than Ron Lyle was. As for Shavers, he may have had greater power in a single punch ( his right hand ), but I think the Rock exeded him by being able to bang with both arms.

As for their chances against Marciano? I think that an upset is always possible, but I would not readily favor either one of them to pull it off. Shavers only chance of winning this one would be to land heavy, early, and hope to score a miraculous KO before things really got heated up. Frankly, I don't see it happening, and there is no way Earnie is battling it out with Rocky for 10 - 15 rounds the way the Walcott and Charles did. NOT GONNA HAPPEN... Lyle probably has a better chance of giving Marciano a fight than Shavers by virtue of his size, chin, stamina, and counter punching abilities. But, at the end of the day, Marciano is simply in a higher class.

Rocky Marciano has the highest heavyweight knockout percentage of all time, and around the second highest win/ko ratio of any heavyweight champion, bested only by George Foreman. He has been known to render fighters unconcious and shatter teeth among other things.

Ron Lyle was not really a hard hitter from an ACTUAL POWER perspective. He was a very talented counterpuncher who cought fighters as they were walking in, hence his opponents generated some of the momentum on his shots. The Rock on the otherhand did most of the persuing in his fights and the power from his shots were manufactured by him and him alone. Additionally, the vast majority of Lyle's knockouts came against second rate opposition or Journeyman. His very best victories over such men as Ellis, Bonavena, Bugner, and Peralta came via decision. Boone Kirkman and Earnie Shavers were the only real named opponents whom he ever stopped or KO'd, and neither were known for their durability. Lastly, if we look at Lyle's record, and presumably exclude his 4 matches that he fought during his 50's and against 0-18 tomato cans, we can basically conclude that he retired with 39 wins with 27 of them coming by way of KO or TKO.

I do not see any rational argument which bolsters the claim that Ron Lyle had more power than Rocky Marciano.

A knockdown is always possible, and for Shavers, he could stop the Rock, (Not ko) But I think Marciano would out work both, I dont see Shavers lasting the full 12 or 15 rounds vs Marciano.

Rocky was a much better pound for pound fighter that either but in straight up match ups both guys would be dangerous ... I can see Rocky taking out the iffy chinned Shavers but the Huge Lyle could be a major style problem for Marcinao. Lyle was a tremendous puncher in his own right ...
