View Full Version : when did PBF RUN from DLH? i must've missed it!
i hear folks saying that PBF ran from DLH, but when i saw the fight PBF was either on the ropes or in the center of the ring, right in front of DLH...now i clearly saw DLH run like the cops were chasing him against Tito for 4 rds, but i failed to see PBF run against DLH...how bout someone point out the rds that PBF ran from DLH, because i must've been drunk or something...:huh

I would not call it a run from PBF but he was for sure playing safe and somehow avoiding full fist to fist fight with DLH. I didnt like the way the fight was closed personally i think a draw was much better. For me DLH was the more courageous fighter while PBF was playing safe. There were some cases during the fight where his dumb smile was frozen and he started thinking seriously of fighting instead for smiling like a clown.
It would not be the same with Hatton. Hatton would not give him the chance of going backwards and playing the smart ass.
My bet is gonna be on hatton.
PBF will go down, he is a good athlete though.

:huh so you expected PBF to engage in a toughman contest with a much bigger puncher in DLH? if you were a boxer you'd be getting KTFO ALOT with that line of thinking...

PBF didn't run. It's just that DLH's punches were damn slow to catch his head.
**DLH surely caught the ribcage though.. :D
absolutely. Floyd should have stood still a bit more. I mean, its not Oscar's fault he couldnt catch PBF often enough. What was Mayweather thinking? It's not like they were fighting for money or anything, Floyd should have made it a tad bit easier for Oscar to land.

He didnt run but people just jump on the bandwagon, one person says it and other people just nod in agreement (Hatton lost to Urango:huh , that started doing the rounds two days after the fight. Damn lets see how long the Winky really beat Hopkins or Margarito beat Williams talk carries on. Now of course this is only a rule regards to PBF because you dont hear these ppl mentioning when Oscar actually did run from Tito.
Floyd style in last couple of fights has been cautious but he wins because he lands enough clean punches, surely if you back up and dont look to throw any punches that is running but hey in 2007, boxing is the art of getting hit while hitting your opponent thats why some people think Pac is P4P king.

PBF is fighting people who are way naturally bigger than him Pac isn't. See the difference? If Pac was being outweighed on fight night by 12 or more pounds he wouldn't be so aggressive either. That's what makes PBF so great he's clearly the smaller man in the ring and should be fighting at 140 but he still finds a way to win.

How exactly is getting hit an art? How much skill does it take to get hit? I'm pretty sure anyone can get into a ring and get hit if they want to. I have heard people say though that boxing is the art of hitting while not getting hit.

I wonder if anybody would have ever said PBF "run" if it weren't for Larry Merchant's PBF hatin ass saying that in the Baldo fight. I also noticed the weight drained thing nailing the boards after Lennox said that about Miranda.

It's possible. Merchant can be very bias, and he is vocal about it... which makes it spread faster.

Getting hit is not as easy as it looks...the body does have a natural ability to roll with the punches...It does take skill to get consistantly hit cleanly each fight like Pac...:good

That's exactly when all of this shit started. The HBO crew was riding Mayweather for apparently not being able to knock Baldomir out cold because of the disparity in talent, but they didn't attack Vernon Forrest (who is a hell of lot bigger than Mayweather naturally) for being unable to hurt Baldo and getting backed up just like Mayweather did. I also liked seeing the HBO crew completely abandon the requirement for a P4P fighter to KO a much lesser opponent during Hatton/Urango. It was hilarious to hear Merchant, Lampley and Steward cheerlead Hatton and rant about how exciting he is even after he starting diving in to clinch without even trying puch Urango in the later rounds. HBO really sickens me sometimes.

a) It was a good fight (not great but definitely good)
b) Oscar was not at his best, but he pressed the fight
c) Floyd was not aggressive but he wasn't running.
d) I scored it a draw, but if I had to give it to one of them, it would have been Floyd.
d) The fight was good and the result was fair.
e) I was cheering for Oscar.

No, thats the fight you want people to see. PBF is far more hated than DLH....DLH is also a bigger cash cow. There is no reason for people to fabricate the outcome.
PBF won, and the only odd scoring there was the SD as it should have been unanimous.

Sure bud. That is the fight in a nutshell. PBF was not throwing many combos and he was not landing very much. DLH was catching most of PBF punches with his gloves. What happened to PBF's lightning speed punches that could not be stopped by anyone let alone an old man De La Hoya as the haters were calling him.
There was one decent punch PBF landed at the bell, and he had a good rally in the 9th or 10th.
Overall the fight was close with DLH doing more and having more success.

You can sure bud all you like, spin all you like, sit here and complain all you like.
The majority had PBF winning, the record books have him winning, landing more punches and a higher connect rate.
I had it 8-4, many had it 8-4 or 7-5. I am not going to argue your opinion, because no matter what I say, factual or not, you will argue your opinion, which you cannot prove and is a waste of time trying to change.
BTW, DLH himself said PBF was very fast and faster than he thought.
9 min video of a 36 minute fight certainly doesn't even tell half the story now does it.

DLH lost it for himself.....all he had to do was be patient with his punches instead he was concerned more with just throwing and trying to flurry and steal rounds....in the end most everyone saw straight through it....his game plan was to be the pressure guy because he knew PBF would be cautious of course and to throw as many as he could but if he would have thrown punches with more accuracy while PBF was on the ropes he wins easily but he didnt he tried flurries that were very very inaccurate....he lost it for himself...especially abandoning his jab....i thought it should have been UD.....im tired of fighters just trying the inaffective agressivenss approach...be agressive but affective is the key...Hoya was very aggresive...but not affective at ALL.
