It is easy in the heat of all these debates to forget that Mikkel Kessler is a good fighter, that he is exciting to watch, and that he is respected and liked as a human being. It is also easy to get defensive about one's favourite and get into silly arguments that only leave one with a sour taste.

So let us leave the upcoming fight aside and concentrate on the positive and inspirational aspects of Mikkel's game and character.

Personal anecdotes much appreciated.

Let us remind ourselves how we became fans of Mikkel Kessler in the first place and why we were so excited that this fight was made in the first place. Let us keep discussion here entirely positive, please. Let us concentrate on Kessler. :good

I'm with you. I think Kessler is a hell of fighter, with good skills. The man has dominated pretty much everyone he's fought. I like his chances in this fight. I've also heard he's a hell of an athlete who excells in other sports such as basketball and golf.

Agreed, sometimes I bash Kessler too much on these forums unnecessarily. It's not the fighter I have a problem with, its usually his idiotic carnival-freak fanboys who think he's the next best thing to sliced bread.

He's a good fighter, he's number 2 SMW in the World, that proves it.

I think Mikkel got a lot of fans in Australia,Canada,Germany the US when beating their own guys. He did it fair and square, leaving nobody in doubt that he was the better man.
Mikkel is an extremely nice guy. Take a look at Andrade after the fight not to mention them embracing eachother getting in to round 12.
He ranks a sure #1 among his peers: Lacy, Bika, Bute, Manfredo and a lot other top names. Most favour Kessler to win this one. Even Calzaghe calls himself the underdog. That should say alot about Mikkel.

What is Mikkel like as a person? Has anyone met him?

Has anyone seen him fight from up close? What was it like? What do you remember most about seeing him fight?

What is most impressive about his game?

What gets you all excited about Mikkel?

On a side note Calzaghe said the same thing when he faced Lacy!

In a way, I think Calzaghe and and Kessler have a lot in common outside of the ring. Nice guys with close family relations, who are easy to underrate outside their home country.

Mikkel is an easygoing and modest person, and he doesn't like to be the focal point of attention and he has had a hard time coping with his celebrity status, which is partly why he spends some time in Germany.

He still hangs out with a lot of his childhood friends and seems like a genuine down-to-earth kinda guy. The whole I'll kill him and his children prefight-schtick has never been his game and he's always been unexpectedly friendly to his opponents before and after fights.

Manfredos never been a top name hes just being a bitch saying kessler will win cos he got bitch slapped by calzaghe, the latter also gos for Lacy.

Well a second hand story here: I first heard of Kessler in his amateur days a year before turning pro. A friend of mine in the local boxingclub had the "enjoyment" of meeting Kessler in the Quarterfinals of the Sealand championships. (My friend was stopped in the fight). His experience of Kessler in the ring: A very frustrating fighter to meet, not that heavy handed, but an excellent counterpucher, who would make you pay every time you opened up. He was convinced that this kid was the next big thing in danish boxing. Guess he was right about that one!

Two things endeared me to Kessler.

The first was when he called out Calzaghe in the ring after the Beyer fight. Hilarious moment with a touch of humour.

The second was hoovering his flat in Monaco.

Mikkel Kessler is an excellent fighter, I love tacticians and he is the definitive tactical euro stand up boxer, only with much fluidity in comparison to his contemporaries.

He's a pleasure to watch, controlling, making little mistakes and showcasing P4P level ring generalship. He is also quite a good man.

He is the 3rd best in my opinion from the 160-175 region.

It's just a shame that he has stylistic flaws that play seriously into Calzaghe's biggest strengths... I hope he can give a better showing than I am predicting, but I doubt it... may MK totally rejuvenate his career after the beautiful brutality in motion that he is set to recieve.

i have seen a lot of fighters, and the hype around them. First time i wacth MK
was against Bayer, most of you guys think Bayer is shit, but coming from the former republic of east Germany, he can't be that bad! The Andrade fight convinced me, MK is the real thing. We will find out the 3 nov. how good MK and JC really are, i agree that the style among the two are favoring JC, but i have been so impressed by MK the way he adapt to the opponent, so why should he fear JC, he have seen his fights and still call him out, instead of hiding with he's two belts, defending against nobody's like the rest of the beltholders. I don't know the outcome of the upcomming fight, like the rest of you, but Kessler deserve the greatest respect for challenge the best opponents in he's division.
