Carl Froch is on his way I reckon. One of my mates who knows I'm a boxing fan asked me about him today having seen him last weekend.
Does terrestrial TV make that big a difference? He doesn't know anything about Boxing (knows Ricky Hatton's name etc.) and recognised Froch ahead of Haye.
Interesting?

that proves it then . lol
A picture of Carl Froch in Nottingham is like a picture of the Dalai Lama in Tibet.
Hope he's a household name. He's got the 'x-factor' for sure.

Yeh i was out of town and got my mates at Uni to watch it, they loved it. Then one of there mates text them saying "Good fight on ITV" and none know anything about boxing apart from the name Calzaghe, Haye and Hatton V Mayweather lol.
I dont see him being champion for long.

I think he could certainly become a household name - though he won't crack any P4P lists in the way Hatton, Calzaghe and Haye (possibly) have/will.
He is entertaining - the Pascal fight wasn't one for the purists, but one for casual/armchair fans, I certainly know a few that were asking when the next boxing on ITV was.
Two hungry fighters against each other (ITV/Setanta) >>>>>> Quailty fighter vs Bum (Sky)
The casual fan can appreciate fights like that, balls to the wall affairs, but they wouldn't appreciate, say..... Pernell Whitaker vs Floyd Mayweather.

If Froch defends against bums for 10 years and then fights an ok hyped contender he will become an household name.

In the sense that neither had any defence whatsoever, the technique at times was pretty bad etc.......
Cracking fight though, both guys really really wanted it.

I dont see him being champion for long.He wont be. But to be honest i don't think that really matters. If the guy is promoted well enough and can stay in the mix competitively he`ll do boxing proud and himself.

to become a real household name in the UK you need a rival. Benn has Eubank, Bruno had Lewis.
it would have been great If froch and calzaghe had been around at same time as eubank, benn, collins, watson.
at least we have degale, groves, jeffries and sutherland.

I think exposure on ITV should be a bonus although don't know what the viewing figures were. Back in the day, 60's & 70's, most British champs and contenders, especially heavyweights were household names due to the fact that all fights were on BBC, either prime time Wednesday night or Saturday afternoon Grandstand with. ITV or ATV as I think it was then was the only other competition.

Terrestrial TV definitely makes a big difference. Getting that kind of show on free tv is a big boost to Froch and he needs more to come.

I see what you mean, I think my brain had frozen on the way to work
That said Froch is a better boxer than people give him credit for IMO. He's a tad stiff and slow but he has some variety and a tidy jab.
Probably not. For example if he gets his ass whooped by Taylor you'll probably find ITV 1 aren't too interested. He'll then be on the ITV 4 slots. And he will get his ass whooped sooner rather than later.

He doesn't have Calzaghe's skills.
He doesn't have Haye's looks, one punch KO power at the highest level or HW advantage (Joe Public still loves the big fella's :deal).
He doesn't have Hatton's "one of the boys" personality that acts as a magnet for the football fans.
He could still make himself a few quid, but I don't think he'll be big-time household name stuff.

Agree with much of what's been said but think he's actually in quite a competetive division. plus if his name becomes too well known, who knows who'll pile on / lose the pounds if the money's right. Talking of which, does Floyd Jr not fancy him in a tune-up contest before he faces Pacman? Bit of a silly comment but who knows...

Calzaghe became an household name when he became 25 and only just before the sports personality win.
Hatton is well liked by talk show hosts ect but his fame has only been recent.
David Haye who? Guy who can not fill arena's and who is not known to anyone but real boxing fans. Most people could not pick him out of a line up.

is this calzazi
my dad
regarded by few as the p4p king
Why not ?
He gets hit too much it really is as simple as that. It lends for a fantastic fights but fighters with that style rarely stay champion for long. Pascal although talented was a big question mark going into the Froch fight and Carl himself was a question mark himself. When a question mark fights a question mark what comes out at the end...another bloody question mark.
We dont really know how good Pascal is so we still dont really know how good Froch is, but going from what I saw I think a better boxer like a Kessler or a Bute would give Froch troubles. Taylor also has all the fundementals to beat Carl Froch, but again how good a suoer middleweight Jermain Taylor is, is still a question mark...:think

His technical boxing ability has nothing to do with him becoming a household name. It's all about exposure to the masses and as of now that means terrestrial telly. If he stays with ITV he will become a household name. Like some others have already said I've had a couple dozen colleagues mention to me that the fight last weekend was good, some of them were women and none were boxing fans.
