View Full Version : Oscar wants more advantages this time

This interview took place yesterday.......
Quoted by Robert Morales in PressTelegram.com, in regards to retirement, De La Hoya stated:*"September will be the fight that will be billed as the retirement fight."
The report by PressTelegram states that De La Hoya said he will wait until December to make the May fight. He tells the publication that his fight could be against Ricky Hatton, but Hatton would first have to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr when the two face off against one another on Dec. 8 in Las Vegas.
De La Hoya did not rule out a rematch with Mayweather Jr, saying that fight could happen, but only if Mayweather agreed to fight in a smaller ring. A ring as small as 16 by 16 instead of 20 by 20.
"Mayweather is a very slippery fighter, he's a tricky fighter," De La Hoya added:
"So, obviously, we would want a smaller ring and it would be more of an interesting fight. So that's one thing we have to look at, and that's the only obstacle that's in the way of making a rematch."
Oscar not only looking to fight the smallest guys next time he wants to fight in a 16' x 16' ring. A fuking phone booth. Smallest guys, small ring, Reyes gloves, ridiculous weght stipulations, etc. He takes every advantage possible.
But you know what? It doesn't matter. He loses anyway
Thank God we only have to suffer with this egotistical demanding prick one more year ........ hopefully!!

With some of the scorecards in recent Golden Snaggle Tooth events, I hope no funny business goes on with the judges on Mayweather-Hatton.

Same thing Merchant has been asking for in Boxing for a while.
Smaller rings smaller gloves.
Hopefully this eliminates the "safety first" fighters.

PBF is fighting Hatton, and most really dont care to see a rematch with DLH. The winner of PBF vs Hatton should fight the SSM vs Cotto winner and that's pretty damn OBVIOUS!! A remacth is ridiculous and there's better fights to be made at 47. Oscar should rematch Trinidad and sail off into the promotional sunset:good

De La Hoya gets all this fights that he dosent deserve, alot of great fighters out there are better and worked harder than him and should get this fights, instead he fights who ever he wants just because of money he brings (i understand that aswell) but i just dont think is fair.

Everyone would have to agree that a DLH / PBF fight in a 16X16 ring would be more interesting. Any chance Oscar just wants to give the fans what they pay for?

The 20' ring is the standard ring size for any boxing event. It is not too small or too big.
DLH is a fool......and so is Merchant.

No offense to the ultimate practtioners of the sweet science, but if boxing wants to increase it's fanbase these stipulations are a must.
In my opinion, this would not really affect someone like Floyd who is very adept in the pocket. I've never seen Floyd "run" I've seen him shy away from exchanges, slip in slip out, etc...but shamelessly get on his bicycle? I have yet to see that.

when the powers that be get their heads outta their culos. . . there will only be 16 by 16 rings, smaller gloves and close rounds scored for the guy "making the fight".

scoring rounds like that would definitely improve the image of the sport and make fights more exciting, we'd definitely see more fighting and less running and definitely more KOs. its a shame that some of today's fighers decide they'll win points before they even enter the ring.

DLH shouldn't be in the position to get the top fights now. Although he is still a draw money wise, a rematch with PBF doesnt interest me. Even if by the time its made they will be fighting tied together

What have been the sizes of some the larger and smaller rings in fights? I read that Leonard-Hagler was 20 x 20, despite people always saying that ring was extra big. If I remember right, Jones-Harmon was a pretty small ring, but Harmon went 10 rounds anyway.

Its pretty dumb he would suggest they use a smaller ring in a re-match but I guess that means he is sure he would lose again in the bigger ring. DLH needs to reture and lets see PBF take on more challangers that he hasnt already beaten up.

I think Oscasr and PBF should rematch in a 16 x 16 ring. Also, Oscar should be allowed to fight without a glove on his left hand. He should also be given a Stun gun that he is allowed to use once per round, but not longer than 5 seconds.
Oh, and he should be allowed to KICK.

Can you imagine if Briggs made a bizzare demand like this yeah I want to fight Klitschko in a 12x12 ring.....even DLH fans should think he is dillusional.

He was the gold medalist with the heart-warming story, he has the looks to attract female fans, he can speak both English and Spanish to promote himself and his fights....He won a lot of fights earlier in his career that were big at the time, so he often gets criticized rather harshly.
Though it is true that a good number of his megafights were mediocre, or average.

16 x 16 is a sparring ring. Get a grip, bunch of fake boxing fans. If you want to see unskilled brawling watch the damned UFC. Boxing is perfect the way it is. It Makes both styles work harder. Runners cant win a fight by running. They win a fight by hitting the slugger that hit and dont get hit. You guys just want to see your talentless mutt ass fighters do good and stop losing all the god damned time. Fucking clowns..like the same breed of clowns that try to change the rules when there dumb asses cant compete in any sport. Might as well give the bullshit sluggers points for punching air and arms.

Yeah, is very PC and rehearsed with the way he talks.
It's strange though with him and his controversial decisions. He got the decisions over Whitaker, Quartey, and Sturm. I thought he lost to Ike and Sturm and drew with Whitaker. He lost decisions to Trinidad and the Mosley rematch and I scored both of those fights for Oscar. The Quartey one annoys me the most because of the margins he won by, and how easy the fight was to score.
He fought his share of smaller guys moving up (Hernandez, Leija, Molina, Mayweather), or who had less experience at the weight (Mosley 2x), but he still has his share of clear victories over guys who were top contenders/titlists at the weight class they fought at: Ruelas, Gonzalez (well, he peaked at 135 but was ranked high @ 140 at the time), Rivera, Castillejo, Vargas, Chavez.

:nut Boxing as Far from perfect, get real.
ANdre Dirrell won on points running every round of his last fight.
You guys need to get real, eithet boxing adjusts for more offense or it will be in even sorse shape when DLH finally retires next year.

Perhaps in the states, itīs doring very well in Europe.
Most of their top fighters are not runners. Hatton, Cal and Kessler - when Kessler had every round won against Andrade the dude kept fighting and went for the KO in the last round to put on a show. . . guys like Fraud and Hops would NEVER care enough about the paying fans to even think about doing this.

Then that makes fighters who WANT TO FIGHT HIM even lamer.
DLH is a scum who uses his popularity to get fights he wants. But is that any worse then using the "I'm the P4P Best!" to get fights or turn down others? At least guys get paid against DLH...
