The two middleweights with the most title defenses, 20 and 14 respectively. Who takes it? (12 Rounder)

Not sure who picked Monzon by KO. Monzon was great, but so is/was Bernard's chin. Cant see that as an outcome.

I see Monzon applying the pressure...Hop waiting and countering his way to a close but clear UD.

Great fight tho.

Good match up. Hopkins has the speed & the boxing ability to score early & keep away to get a twelve round decision. But in a fifteen round fight it would have to swing Monzon's way.

Wow, the poll is ridiculous. Hopkins should not be that big a favorite at all. He shouldn't even be a favorite.

I dont know about shouldnt be a favorite. I would slightly favor Hop to win...clear but close. BUT, the results of this poll show one thing...quite a few people dont know who Monzon is....:yep

Most wouldn't favor Hopkins to win. I don't know personally, he is capable of winning the fight for sure, but I would have to go with Monzon just because of who he is personally. I think Hopkins could beat him, but the poll is just ridiculous right now. Post this in the classic forum and see what kind of responses it gets, I guarantee you it will be completely different.

Again, I agree totally. Monzon was a fantastic fighter. But dont take to much credance in a poll in the classic section. Here is a sample of how it goes for most of the regulars in there.

Who wins...

Fighter A - career 1950 - 1961

Fighter B - career 1992 - 2004

Fighter A by a landslide....:yep (and I aint talking about all of ya....just most :good ).

But your totally right, this should be a much closer poll.

I picked Hopkins by decision, but honestly, I wouldn't bet a single dollar on it.

I'm not big on the fifties, but I can see the reasoning. Usually people don't ask about the Holyfields and Roy Joneses but about current fighters who aren't likely to be remembered as 'outstanding' champions. Say Cotto, or Klitschko.

Hopkins, of course, is another matter entirely. I'd personally go for a Hopkins decision.

I've never seen a Monzon fight, but when in doubt pick the black guy.:good

Don't worry, most of the guys that voted on this poll never saw a Monzon fight either :good

12 or 15 rounds and under which point system?

*edit* Nevermind I noticed it's a 12 rounder.

I never saw Carlos fight, so it's hard to predict, but I have to believe that a prime middleweight BHop wins a decision. His skills enabled him to handle anything the opponent brought (except Roy Jones-like speed) and powerful enough to bust up the opponent. Plus, I have never seen Hopkins hurt in a fight.

Prime Monzon was a lion. Refer to the first Benvenuti fight. Regardless, I think a prime Monzon gives away the first couple of rounds sizing up hopkins then starts countering effectively with solid accurate punches. Make no mistake, this would be a tachtical war with plenty of fireworks to go around. In a 12 round fight it would just be a batter of how long it takes Monzon to adjust and start landing his counters. Hopkins would deffinetly have the ability to steal some of the middle rounds as well. I see this fight going the distance, the score would be something like 115-113 for either fighter with Monzon winning the championship rounds.

My favourite fighter of all time Monzon applies pressure from the start through to the 11th,with a right hand landing perfectly on Hopkins chin! The crowd goes wild!

Ch-Ching hopkins is out
:happy

A Hopkins loss would not shock me, but I can't see him getting knocked out.

Carlos Monzon by pts. He simply was a more skilled and impressive fighter, and beat anyone everywhere. If he had laid off the cigarettes and wild lifestyle plus given the training techniques of today - he would thrash Hopkins without end, imho.

Hopkins by clear, competitive UD.

Neither are getting ko'd. That means there are eleven fools on ESB!

I'd go with Hopkins by decision.

I take Hopkins over Monzon, clear. Hopkins/Hagler is a toss up, could go eitehr way and the decision would be controversial as ever.

Hopkins by narrow decision. The orthodox technician vs the unorthodox technician in a battle of the greats. What a fantastic tactical battle.
