Leonard...
This is the Hagler that fought Duran versus Leonard before the lay-off...
Although Leonard was no middleweight, just goin' against the grain. :good

The 1987 fight show'd that in Hagler's prime he would beat Leonard. Hagler was slow didn't have his reflexes and still caught Leonard on the ropes. In a 15 round fight Hagler knocks Leonard out in the 13th round.

I see it playing out as their fight went down, with Hagler pursuing Sugar Nose Leonard, as he bicycles through the night...only Hagler knocks him off of the bicycle. :smoke

Yeah, 'cuz Leonard was fresh as a daisy, going into that fight. Hagler was in a wheelchair, it was totally unfair.

I don't see Leonard being stopped in his prime. Even if he was out of weight class.
Maybe Hagler wins this, but... he lost when they fought for real. :yep

You have to reach back to 1980 or '81 to find the peak Hagler. And that version of Marvin -- or even the 1985 one, for that matter -- takes the fight to Leonard and beats him by clear decision.
I agree SRL will run and lose a lopsided decision before he allows himself to get KOd.

Im pretty sure it was Hagler who couldnt land a damn thing when leonard was on the ropes and went on to cry about it for 20 years

Well, the punchstats show SRL only landed a handfull more punches throughout the fight so Marv must have landed something against those ropes. Leonard was so tenacious that it's hard to see him getting stopped in a fight in with Hagler even in '83. Can see him getting knocked down though and losing an exciting fight on points.

A great natural middleweight in/near his prime should beat a great natural welterweight in/near his prime.
I pick Hagler.

Hagler was shot by the time that fight happend. You could see he was beginning to slip in the Hearns fight.
Hagler had been on the decline since about 1983-84 or so, but look at Leonard. He hadn't fought in 3 years, just once in 5 years, and most of his career was at welter and jr. middle.

In a normal sized ring, even the 1987 Hagler TKOs Leonard.

True, but Leonard never lost his athletic qualitys or speed.
Leonard's stamina wasn't the same. He got tired after a few rounds against Hagler, then had to get his 2nd wind back.
Sure he used his legs a lot, but Leonard's stamina in the late 70s and early 80s was pretty amazing. He even finished the 15th strong in Montreal after taking a murdering to the body from Duran.
Leonard was still very fast though, and it was pretty amazing how sharp he was after that sort of layoff.
