LMAO. The Holyfield/Ibragimov fight is being shown on ESPN Classic. Just goes to show how big of a farce it is that someone can fight a bunch of nobodies and then get a title shot he doesn't deserve for about the 5th time in his career.

According to a recent report by writer Dan Rafael, Sultan Ibragimov's defense of the WBO heavyweight title against former four-time champ Evander Holyfield is very likely to be televised live on ESPN Classic.
The event, scheduled for Oct. 13 in Moscow, Russia, would also air on the internet by way of ESPN360

it's actually a good thing so Sultan can get more exposure especially if he looks good in that fight.

How convenient to leave Fres Oquendo off of the list...he had a good record, and has fought some good comp.

Focusing on the names mentioned drives your point home a little better though. :good

Oqueerdo is the only the legit fighter HGHfield fought, indeed. Fres is lame, and shouldnt fight at all. He fights scared, runs, and holds.

Back in the day we could watch fights on ABC, NBC, CBS not this PPV shit. ESPN CLassics is pretty good for the regular joes to tune into a heavyweight fight. If it's a good fight it could do a great job of bringing boxing back to the public's attention.

Ali used to defend his title on good ol fashioned, FREE network TV that you got your reception for with a set of rabbit ears.

You call someone that got beat by RUIZ worthy of mentioning on that list? He even got TKO'd by Ruiz. That is nothing to be proud of.

Stop fucking whining....at least it's on TV for free and one step closer to the days of CBS and ABC. Evander deserves this shot more than the Barrett's and Okhello's of the world who got shots in the last year or so.

Evander is likely going to be the next WBO Champ, ...and it would be interesting to see Him in a *Unification Bout after that( maybe against WBC Champ; Oleg Maskaev or Sam Peter )...

This is actually really good news! This means that the fight is going to get mainstream American media coverage and we wont have to watch it on a premium channel.

Well said. Holyfiled is better than the Okhello's and Austin's of boxing. I think Ibragimov wrecks the old warrior. If its on EPSN, I will watch it. If it were on PPV for $24.95, no thanks.

Speaking of Ibragimov, he might not be the best of the champions, but he is the most exciting of the champions.

Can someone explain to me what Ibragimov, Briggs or Liaykovich did to get their shots at the WBO heavyweight title ?

I hears lots of BITCHING about "Holyfield's done nothing to deserve this shot" but what exactly did those three "champs" do before winning this title ?

..... and Lamon Brewster.
What exactly were his credentials when he fought Wlad the first time for this title ?

:huh

I agree with El Rey and Brooklyn. This fight being on ESPN Classic would be a good thing. Anytime a significant fight is available to a wider audience, it should be a boost for the sport. Now it's up to Holy and Sultan to put on a good show.

Well, if you look at the available ooponents, Holyfield is not that bad of a choice. I think he will be pretty competative but Ibragimov will probably win a UD with something like 8-4, 9-3.

Worth mentioning on the list...??? Of course, afterall Oquendo is the only Holy opponent left off the list...and the original poster of the comments already conceeded that Fres is the legit fighter of the bunch. I don't care for the guy, just calling for a balanced perspective. I prefer Savarese to Oquendo actually.

That is nothing to be proud of. whatever. anyone who follows boxing knows oquendo's a solid hw- beat byrd was beating tua before getting caught -- the ruiz fight was a joke and stopped prematurely. the only difference between sultan's and holyfields' comp is that sultan beat one more bum who happened to have a belt b/c realistically sultan's recent comp is not much better.

It's smart to put it on Classic. That way, once Evander wins his history-making 5th belt at HW, they don't have to re-show it on Classic - it's already there.

I like it, and I'm glad it's not PPV.

The fight was scheduled late. None of the big networks were available, and ESPN's slate was already full with college football games. ESPN is paying a lot more money for this fight than they normally pay, and they're just putting it on the network that has availability. Sure, they could have made this a PPV and probably have made more money doing it that way, but the fighters want the exposure, so I applaud them taking the fight to a basic cable network over making more money for only diehard fans to watch.

True that. Seriously, is Briggs any better than Savarese? Probably not by much. Javier Mora is around the same level as Maddalone, maybe worse. Ray Austin and Goofi Whitaker are a step down from Oquendo. Ibragamov has had by far the easiest path of any heavyweight to the title in recent memory. This is a guy who drew with (and was knocked down by) Ray Austin and had serious problems with Friday Ahunanya. At the moment, I have to rate him top 10 simply because he's on a winning streak over decent comp, but I don't rate him any higher H2H than guys like Gomez, Skelton, Bidenko and Williamson. He has the agility to move around plodders like Briggs and Whitaker, but I think Holyfield will give him trouble, which is just sad because Holyfield isn't anywhere near the top tier of HWs right now.

I'll pick Sultan to win close, but he gets beaten badly by the first guy he fights who has a pulse.
