in a interview, aaron pryor talked very about hilmer kenty and of the 15 times they fought in the amatures, pryor won 9, but given the shaky decisions and a splitting at a fairly close 9-6, kenty and pryor could have been pretty even talent in the amatures.

pryor then went on to lose a close split decision to another talented amature in howard davis jr. who eventually became the gold medalist.

both fought at light weight and i think they would have had a exiting fight. i think kenty would also have a given meldrick taylor a great account of himself too.

Mel Taylor would've taken Kenty apart.

Don't think Taylor would take Kenty at lightweight-his defense wasn't so good and Kenty hit harder.

Did Taylor ever compete at lightweight? Mel fought his prime at 140, then later at 147.

Anyway, only way Kenty beats Taylor is if Mel was inexperienced. The Taylor that beat McGirt, and nearly beat Chavez would be way too much for Kenty.

Howard would not have enjoyed his usual height and reach advantage on Hilmer, and Kenty had the firepower and aggression as champion necessary to deck him. Hilmer would take a comfortable decision with his active attack.

MR.BILLHuh?:huh Kenty was hardly a dull stylist as champion, and his upset dethroning of the deady Ernesto Espana was one of the electrifying performances of 1980. O'Grady/Kenty was also a barnburner, despite Hilmer's being hampered with pneumonia.

Yeah, if Howard had developed a little more, it would be a more competitive fight.Hilmer takes it.

Deadly Ernesto Espana? I'll take Davis by decision over Kenty.

Forget the amateurs.
Pros are a different ball game.
Davis couldnt break an egg.
Kenty had too much fire power for Davis and was just as fast.
Aaron Pryor would beat both of them.
Kenty 1st and then Davis --- who couldnt break a fucking egg.

Ernesto Espana was crude, tuff & limited......... I remember Ray Mancini beating the piss outta Espana in his first title defense of the WBA title on CBS TV....... Espana was already shot by then, yet he was ONLY like 29 yrs old.....

Kenty was fast, but NOT as fast as Davis.

Kenty was fast, but NOT as fast as Davis.

But fast enough and he could hurt you.
He also put pressure on his opponents, controlle a fast pace and could cut off the ring.
Davis couldnt punch hard enough to get any respect.

Around 1980, Hilmer outworks Howard and wins a close UD over 15.Howard had no business losing to Jim Watt anyways.
