Germans appreciate winners, in terms of sport they are a nation of winners, which you cant say for the English/Brits.

Wlad has become a winner, a very hard fighter to beat. Thats why they love him.

Klitschko is popular because he's always a class act, lots of charity, proper behavior in public...
This is the way an athlete has to behave in order to gain some respect in this country. That's why Rocchigiani was less popular than Maske's boring ass. People here would have major problems rooting for a guy like Toney.

From my personal point of view he has become awfully boring but maybe there are still some casual fans who remember his old way of fighting and consider him the fighting machine he used to be before Sanders and Brewster whooped his ass.

I am german and I no longer like Wladimir Klitschko as a boxer simply b/c his latest fights have been turned out to be boring. The young Wladimir was always good for the upset, in fact his losses were a lot more entertaining than his wins! Now he is totally dominating his opponents. E.g. Rahman had no chance at all, WK was never in danger. That's not what I want to see in the ring.

BTW: Isn't it great that we Germans are wide open to adopt immigrants or people from other countries? And please forget the race card - we only dislike persons who don't accept our free democratic basic order, so we do NOT like nazi dumbskulls, nor fanatic muslims who want to establish a theocracy in our country.

I mean, of course I know were all this comes from..., but honestly it makes me sad each time I read that sort of stuff. Were do you "experts for the german history and culture" take the hatred from?

Nah! Most of the German fans dont even support their home boys. You know, couple of years ago I attented a fight show in Germany's capital Berlin.Trabant vs Rivera was on the undercard.Trabant was knocked down,but fought gamely and offered stiff resistance in the later rounds.Very courageous performance by the German.Did he get any support by the German fans? No,not at all.Most of the Turks,Russians,and other foreigners were supporting him quite loudly acknoledging his brave spirit and attitude.Next behind our seats were three drunk native Germans shouting denigrating terms towards the ring offending their own compatriot.I got really annoyed and was of the point of knocking one of them down.

Not only are the Klitschko brothers popular in Germany ,but they are in other countries like their native Ukraine,Belarus,Russia,Serbia,and so on as well.
They are educated,likeable human beings with good manners and a charming personality.
Germany is the place where big pay checks can be collected.
Naturally,they prefer fighting either in the states or in Germany to showing their skills in Belarus,Poland,or Bulgaria.

I am a big fan of the Klits and although I prefer Lennox over either I do think it possible that I shall be supporting Vitali against Haye.
