Since it's the end of the year, we may as well start making our list of the best fights of the past year.

Make a top five or top ten list if you like and toss out some suggestions for Fight of the Year.

Cung Le vs Frank Shamrock - The world's greatest San Shou fighter -Cung Le - was put to the test by the premiere mixed martial artist Frank Shamrock. This test of wills saw the two men exchanging punches, kicks, spin kicks and spinning back fists as the two men unloaded everything in their arsenal in the culmintation of a decade long rivalry.

Eddie Alvarez vs Kawajiri - A classic toe-to-toe kick to kick fight that actually saw the two men trading punches on their knees at one point as they fought their way across the ring with neither man wanting to give his opponent a moment's respite.

Forrest Griffin vs Rampage Jackson - A hard fought battle between the two men that saw Rampage knocking Griffin down with powerful shots and Griffin coming back to nearly kick Jackson's legs out from under him. Griffin narrowly edged out the lead by outworking the powerful Rampage down the stretch.

Miguel Torres vs Yoshira Maeda - Back and forth fight that moved at a breakneck pace from standing to the ground and back again with the multi-talented Torres pushed to perform at his best by the iron willed Maeda.

Kimbo Slice vs James Thompson - Was an exciting brawl with Thompson nearly pulling off the upset as the more experienced mixed martial artist used every trick in the book to batter Kimbo and take him out of his game. In the end, the Colossus wasn't sturdy enough to withstand the combined might of Kimbo's earlobe splattering right hand and the waving arms of the referee.

With any luck - the last UFC will give us a few more entries onto the list.

Some good picks so far. Here are a few which haven't been mentioned:

Alvarez vs Hansen
Taylor vs Lytle
Tokoro vs Uyenyama
Hardonk vs Sanchez

There is probably a few other I can't think of right now.

Liddell/Silva was at the end of 2007. I agree that it was a great fight.

Tim Boetsch vs David Heath just for the bitch throw by Boetsch and the celebration at the end. Living up to his nickname 'The Barbarian'.
