Some are; some do 8-12 week camps; depends on the fighter. 2 months is a long time to do nothing but train and work out.

Not really. Very few top pros will do such a short period of training. 6-7 weeks is the sort of training Amir Khan did for his 4 and 6 rounders.

Pros typically do at least 8 weeks.

DLH did over 9 for Floyd.

Hatton does 12 week camps and stretches it to 14 now. Tszyu also does 14 weeks.

8-14 is the typical period.

A general level of fitness and skill is (supposed to be) maintained year round. The 6-8 week thing is more about increased intensity in conditioning, drills, making weight, and sparring that could not be practiced 365 days a year.

Pacquiao does very short camps, the 7-week camp he did for the second Morales fight was one of the longest he's ever done apparently. Hatton does about 12 weeks normally. Some guys like train all year round, like Mayweather and Hopkins.

im just wondering why dont they train all year round like that? and mayby take a deload weak once in a while and go on vacation? i mean all they do is train all year so they should get enuff sleep and food to not overtrain that easily

Because they would overtrain and burn out. That's why they only can do their most intense training for about 12 weeks at a time, otherwise, their bodies would break down and the athlete would go crazy.

8-12, but that depends on how in shape the dude is.

What about some of the older fighters who fought like 12 times a year (or more), Ray Robinson etc?

They must've been in optimal condition all year round?

Was their year a 365 day intense training scheduele?

The fighters who fought all year round weren't that lucky. They had many off nights and weren't prepared for their opponents like today. Hell, Robinson didn't know what Turpin looked like before the weigh in and had fought a contender 10 days earlier.

What they do isn't optimum condition, infact it can be the opposite.

Someone like Mayweather is optimum condition. He stays in good shape but not fight shape and then 8 to 12 weeks before a fight he goes nuts.

Look at Floyd spar Spadafora. He isn't fat or out of shape by average man standards but he is out of fight shape.
