I guess you would include the likes of the following (in no particular order)
Joe Louis
Ezzard Charles
Muhammed Ali
Michael Dokes
Evander Holyfield
Mike Tyson
Tony Tubbs
Floyd Patterson
Who would top that list and is there anyone else that you think should be included on it?

Bruce Seldon had fast hands.
Not a lot of courage and had shaky whiskers but his handspeed was up there.

That is not imposible.
Jem Mace seems to have had verry rapid reactions and in one of the Joe Goss fights he placed his hands on his hips avoiding the punches and taunting Goss.

Nobody has mentioned Roy Jones, who deserves a placing without question. And I'm not getting excited about his handspeed 'reputation' outwith his rather brief apperance as a heavyweight. He was lightning against Ruiz throughout the course of the fight. Certainly fast enough to be bracketed with Ali, Patterson, and Tyson.

Chris, zero film on the guy so I don't know how you can make that statement ...

Its so easy to forget that he was once a heavyweight champ.

Yeah. It wasn't lack of knowledge from everyone prior to me stepping into the premises with the surprise inclusion.

No love for Tommy Morrison?
Commentators in some of his fights commented if nothing else he potentially threw a faster hook then Tyson at times.

If you break this down, different fighters exhibited different speed sets based on their fighting styles ...
Sullivan (from what I've read), Dempsey, Patterson and Tyson were explosive , fast punchers in bursts ... others were blazing from long range ...
I just watched Tunney on Youtube and he was absolutly lightning ...

I can't say I've seen much of Patterson but I remember seeing Tyson in the Spinks fight when I was just a kid. Sure Spinks was like a punching bag but the speed of Tyson's punches that night was the fastest I've seen in just about ANY weight division.

Patterson in combo was the fastest. This thread constantly comes up. Ali's jab/straight right in and of itself was the fastest but when Floyd let fly with both hands you couldn't touch that speed! It's just that "mr. nice guy" always seemed to hold back with it.
And the non-lineal guys that people bring up?...sheesh :patsch
Patterson hands down.

Patterson was the quickest equal with Roy Jones, Ali after that. Dempsey and Tunney are both faster than Louis and Tyson.

Holyfield was pretty rapid in his prime and although they didn't hit that hard Tony Tubbs and Michael Dokes were lightning, every bit as fast as your Pattersons and Alis imo.

the guys who talk about tyson, yeah he was fast but he never comes close to ali, i forgot the name but a famous american train who trained tyson and wlad klitschko briefly said that wlad had faster hands than tyson. so tyson can't be that fast.
ali, holyfield at the beginning of his heavyweight campaign, herbie hide and david haye (not really champs) but fucking fast hands, chris byrd, holmes, peterson and louis, and jones (same like haye and hide)
