Or do you think one must be destroyed for the other to survive?

Yes they can. They have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Apples and oranges.
They're both surviving just fine right now. There are a zillion sports in the world. Every sport will have its fans, and some fans may cross over. This debate is beyond old.

Yep, they'll survive. A lot of MMA fans, or boxing fans are simply...Fight fans. It isn't like pro wrestling with WCW vs WWF was going head to head years ago. I don't think any of there PPVs really cross the same day(?) so fight fans can watch either.

That's one thing I can certainly agree with!

agreed 100%. i personally enjoy watching any form of fighting sport. there's nothing more entertaining and worthy of respect than 2 guys fighting regardless of the rules around the fight. whether it be olympic tkd, boxing, muay thai, bjj, judo, mma, etc etc etc anyone with the nuts to put his reputation on the line and fight it out with another guy is cool in my book.

Well, it originally is a boxing forum with MMA added. I can watch both (prefer boxing if it's on though), but you seriously think some boxing fans aren't going to come over to the MMA section, and compare the two?

if they need to know a comparison then they can go look at the other hundred threads about the subject. and most boxing fans who "casually" watch mma come over and bitch about their stand up or how one of the sports is the superior one.
when in fact it is like trying to compare water to wine. both are liquids. but both leave a different taste in your mouth. boxing and mma are both combat sports. but different aspects of fighting.
its all good though. just throwing my two cents into the pot.
