Why is he considered such an all time great?
His record is mediocre 16-9 and has never sustained a winning streak longer than 4 in a row.
He is a gentleman outside of the octogon and is a statesman for the sport but I have seen him get destroyed by several opponents and didn't look too special to me. What am I missing?

because as soon as he started his career he was fighting the best out there, he has big wins over liddell,Ortiz,Belfort,Randleman,Gonzaga,Sylvia etc. I think he always came in as the underdog and found a way to win when he wasn't suppose to. He's also a class act and a gentlemen, he's a guy that is great for the sport.

Well he's held titles in two weight classes multiple times. He's a five time UFC world champion. Qualify's as great if you ask me.

Beating guys like Smith, Belfort, Horn, Randleman, and Rizzo (twice) to start off your career is no easy feat. I think that, combined with his "Captain America" persona, made him the icon he is today. And then beating younger, stronger, and heavily favored opponents like Liddell, Ortiz, Sylvia, and Gonzaga only builds to your legacy. In my opinion Randy deserves every praise he gets.

Basically because of who he beat and in the fashion he beat them.

His level of comp. has been top-notch over the years, plus there's always that question of age...

I think it's been proven many times in MMA that records don't mean shit. Guys are not getting their records padded like they do in boxing. Randy is an absolute legend.

I'd say you can't really go off his rec by numbers go look at the fighters on that list. most fighters hve a padded rec of nobodys in the begining of their career where randy didnt have that he really never had a gimmie fight unless u count van arsedale. just my thoughts:good

Like most boxers they like to build a 20-0 record against cans so they can have an imidemate title shot, Couture fought top guys right away. MMA isn't about padding a record it's about the best fighting the best.

That makes literally no sense in English. How can you have an "imedemate" title shot after you've had twenty fights? But then Couture did without fighting anybody first. WTF?!
