The durability and powerful left of McVey or the better skill and solid right hand of Moore? I’ll go with Moore overcoming a knockdown to win on points in a 15 round match..

It's a really difficult one.

I guess I'll pick McVey to follow up on hurting Moore late and take it by stoppage.

McVea seems to have been able to rapid fire the left hook like Joe Frazier when he wanted to. I think it likley that he could aply enough pressure to break Moore down.

McVea was a wrecking machine. His left hook ranks right up there with those of Dempsey and Frazier. Some contemporary tests suggest that he hit harder than Wladamir Klitschko.

Johnson picked him as his toughest opponent ,but that may have been to excuse himself for not giving Langford the rematch he craved.

Very tough fight, but I would pick Moore to have too much skill and to have enough power to hurt McVea, which would be critical.

Moore was dominant at light heavyweight but less so at heavyweight. Given the great number of years between their eras it seems hard to gauge how they compared.

Old Fogey, you seemed to be of the opinion that head to head comparisons between fighters of different eras was unfair. Do you think this holds true for the Moore and McVey.

Yes. All I said above is a wild guess. I have only seen brief clips of McVea. I would judge off them that Moore was far more skillful. One difference between comparing a fighter from mid-century such as Moore with one from early in the century, such as McVea, and comparing either to a current heavyweight, is that size does not overwhelm the pick. A match between McVea and Moore, or let's say Peter Jackson and Jersey Joe Walcott, is a fair physical matchup.
