Does anybody else notice Penalosa was like the bantan version of Winky Wright in terms of fighting style, defense, etc?
I do.

I thought the exact same thing...his punch output isn't nearly as high though

i just don't see the likeness. winky never gets dominated like that. penalosa did all he wrong things until that punch. he stayed at exactly the distance where gonzales could hit him all night. i had it 5-1 gonzales and i would not argue if someone had it 6-0. winky has never lost the entire first half of a fight.

Because by ratio Winky never fights opponents bigger than him like Penaloza is doing. :yep
. . . if Penaloza fights opponents with just a minimal size advantage . . . you'll appreciate what he can do.

thats cause Penalosa's offense is weak and throws only 1 punch and at most 2 punch combinations winky can throw much much more.
There defense is similiar and you dont have to look hard to see the similiarites, and dont forget Gonzalez had a huge size advantage over Penalosa.
Put WInky in against someone like Kessler and you will see a similiar fight.

it seemed to me that from the 5th round on, gerry was deliberately holding his defense down and letting johnny punch him to create an opening. i think he wanted johnny to be overconfident and make him feel that he could hit penalosa all day, then when he found a single opening, he capitalized.
of course this is all my opinion only, but if this turns out to be what really happend, then i'd say roach and gerry are two smart boxing people

on the duration of the fight all i knew was it's over until gerry finds an opening and knock jhonny out. his ass was getting whupped all along i told myself that even if it was the reverse situation still if he had not knock jhonny out he won't win. all i was hoping is for gerry to play smart than find an opening and do a powerpunch .well surprisingly my hopes delivered! i was surprised cause for me the odds was stacked against gerry.luckily he did it for me it is one of the great upsets of the year! it'll only take one lucky punch to reverse all odds! congrats gerry!

You're not alone on that assessment. :good

Isnt it interesting how de leon was able to beat gerry by a wide margin and Gonzales gets KO'd. De leon's victory over Gerry looks even better now.

Just my two cents,
I really don't think de leon won that fight on a huge margin, gerry did a good job on that fight. he's just an undersized jr. feather with his power and speed affected by the move in weight.
look at how strong he was at 118. just one punch to the liver finished the job.

Oh fuck . . . do you understand what I posted up there shithead? P4P better?
Do you understand what's by ratio? Is Hopskins bigger than Winky the way Gonzales is bigger than Penaloza? :huh :-(
Now just shut the fuck up . . . ignoramous!

Has something to do with size. Penalosa is small for a bantam. Winky is a huge 154, with long arm length.

that victory was debatable to begin with. and yeah, give props to de leon for beating gerry but de leon and johnny were pretty much doing the same thing. the only difference is that johnny got caught and de leon didn't. penalosa beating johnny, IMO, doesn't do anyhting to affect de leon's credentials. to add to that, the two fights were in different divisions 122 and 118
