1) Who owns the rights to the names and likeness of deceased boxers? Lets say if EA wanted to stick Jack Dempsey in their next game, who would they pay for the right to do so? His grandchilderen or some other family member? Are there any other boxers like Ali, whose name and image was bought?

2) Who owns old fights? Obviously HBO/Showtime and other networks own rights now, and I'm sure the promoters have the same rights to that footage. How about, say, Tex Rickard's fighters? Are they owned by fans? There doesn't seem to be any company making use of their archive, which is a shame. Who do DeAgostini, for example, pay to use that fantastic footage? I take it they don't own it, right?

It's a shame this side of boxing is controlled so poorly. There are millions and millions to be made, and brilliant films for fans to buy, but it seems like no-ones bothered with it.

Jim Jacobs/Bill Clayton probably had the biggest collection of fight films, they sold up to ESPN some years ago.

CMG Worldwide own the rights to Jack Dempsey and are responsible for use of his name/likeness in any commercial fashion

Often a promotional company will buy up the name from the relatives. I beleive Joe Louis's descendants have sold his name.

I beleive the only Ali oponent who owns the rights to his fight with Ali is Earnie Shavers.

Yeah he doesn't look like that though.

He has white shorts and brown shoes if memory serves, his fantasy match-up opponent was Frazier

This looks like a genetic crossbreed between Patterson and Louis who has took a major LSD overdose.

it made took so much time but if they put tons of fighters from each class in a game it would be so awesome

The knockout kings series if pretty funny. I remember playing against a buddy in the open brawl moed with no weght restrictions and he had Butterbean, I had Arron Pryor.

Butterbean put Pryor down twice, then got sparked by the hawk.

I think the next boxing game should have a mode so that you can pick a time period to fight and do and only encounter a certain fighter during that time period.

If you chose the 20s then Dempsey is champ, etc. rather than just having all the fighters from different periods fighting in the same time period.
They should also have a madden like owner mode where you deal with promoters, etc.

More realism would do the games justice.
