The performance was overrated in the sense that people say crap like "the best performance of the decade" without taking caliber of opposition into effect, and while it wasn't of the Jones-Hall or Chavez-Rosario extent....Calzaghe did give Lacy a pretty bad beating.

Great performance
i get teh feeling that joe is gonna handle kessler with equal ease....really..to much speed, great chin, hits hard....and, most importantly, he knows what the big occasoins need and ups his game accordingly.......kessler is in for a long night at the office...

This is masterclass by Joe - I mean hes literally beating Lacy to death doing what we supposed was Lacys game (inside).
Calzaghe just shows how unorthodox and completely out of range he is - fighting on the inside.
Again, the fight and these clips also shows something very important. Joe will not be allowed to move Kessler around like he did Lacy because Kessler will keep the fight at a distance (and Kessler wins this outside matchup - no fuckin doubt). Interesting to see what Joe does in this situation - the first time he faces an opponent better than him on the outside.
The reason Im saying this is that Joe - in almost all of his fights - typically sets it up from the outside - then moves to the side throwing awkward punches moving in with flurries.
He is open to some of Kesslers best weapons doing this....
The jab (I know some idiots claim a jab never works against SP's:patsch )
Overhand right
Lead right
And the punch that will be surprising= Kesslers Left hook:deal
The left hook will work because Joe will be moving to his right while getting at distance to set something up. Kesler is excellent in judging distance and will be taking advantage of this imho.
Eitherway I think its safe to say that the fight will be TOTALLY and utterly different from the Lacy fight. Lacy was seeking infight - Kessler is doing the opposite.

I agree. It won't be like Lacy b/c MK is better, and longer, and more disciplined, IMO.
But he isn't ready for JC's speed. This isn't a "1-2" guy he's fighting, this is a whole different thing. Not only is JC fast, he throws combinations, not the 1-shot-and-out stuff favored by a guy like RJJ. If you take one shot from him, you're just as likely to take about 4.
I don't care if they're slaps - they score and they hurt. And they add up. I think JC will be as motivated as he was against Lacy, which is bad news for MK.
I'm not saying MK can't win, because I think he can. I just don't think it's going to happen.

the kessler fight is completely different from a styles standpoint.
calzaghe has always been open to the right hand at long range.
kessler has to play it cagey and try and stop joe from getting off with those hurtful flurries.
time him with the right on the outside.
for me kessler's problem is his defence not being the best and the fact he's not very awkward.
calzaghe has lot of target to aim at and is fighting a fairly straight up and down fighter.
that spells bad news for kessler i think. :!: :bbb

he's hurtful as lacy found out.
i do give kessler a fighting chance though having said all that.
styles wise he could be a real headache. :hey

Kessler works his right off the jab, mostly a straight right at that and not a lead overhand right... Calzaghe's most vulnerable to a lead overhand right like Reid used at his best because he's great at nullifying jabs, even then, Reid getting an SD loss was the real robbery and the two judges who saw 116-111 Calzaghe were about on target..
People think stand up fighters give Calzaghe immense problems, but he's beaten all of them pretty well, some decent ones like Starie and Woodhall and annihilated Veit twice, Kessler's problem is that he doesn't like getting hit in a negative way, he's overly tenative. Being overly tenatative against a swarmer only opens up a world of trouble for him and Calzaghe can absolutley hurt him with his left hook.

It's nice to see people showing love for there favoured fighter but can we stop the hating?
Both guys are world class, both have chosen to fight the best guy in there division, Hows about we respect both guys and look forward to a super fight?
Oh and Calzaghe wins UD.

Yep I agree, our old friends Wario and Mario Veit pop up again. It was really a sad move to want to get beat up the second time for the WBO title. Calzaghe got to Veit really easy.

To compare Mario Veit and Kessler is like comparing Mundine with Calzaghe.
Stfu with the bullshit.

Loved it! Joe was amazing! Lacy was completely shut out. Even if Lacy was not at his best that night - he looked tense and stalky - the display Joe put in was incredible!!! Beside the obvious, I was impressed with the way he would hold/hug when necessary, to negate Lacy's advantage - and the way he would change his stance and position of his body to negate Lacy's left hook.
Joe is not just incredibly talented, but he sticks to a very good game plan too. He is a very intelligent fighter and will do whatever is necessary to win...whilst in the eyes of everyone, staying on the right side of the law...also, you'd better not hit him/drop him - he gets so angry, he just makes you look foolish after that! Also...impressed with his sportsmanship - he didn't hit Lacy to the back of his head when the latter ran away from him - I like that...
I am really impressed with Joe, and his trainer, Enzo...! Joe will beat Kessler because he will know what fight to fight against him, and he will stick to the plan all night...:good
