Great little fighter. Not much of a punch, but very quick. Had plenty of passionate fans and won the Aussie 140lbs title off Chris McCullen on McCullen's home turf.

I heard he wasn't exactly a model citizen whilst down here on whatever visa he was travelling on. Alas, Dept of Immigration refused further stay so he had to leave.
Not 100% sure on the accuracy of that but i think it's pretty close.

You would think that would of meant him being rejected from entering America :huh

I watched some of his 3rd or 4th pro fight live when he fought at the Cro Club in sydney I few years back..Admittedly I didnt see it all but he was dominant and had quick hands over a limited but consistently competitive opponent.
Anyone who dominates a fighter of Chris McCullen's skill level in his hometown must be pretty handy...Even Chris admitted he wasnt in that fight at all.
Pretty sure Dean was the guy I heard about who was sort after for his quality sparring.

Ya he got knocked out in 3 rounds in an Irish Featherweight title fight by Patrick Hyland.
Rebel 08 it wasn't me that said it, but it's not the first time I've heard it either. Real shame :-(

On the topic of irish fighters, I saw some old footage of Jimi Reynolds and he looked to have real promise, anyone know why he gave the game away relatively early?

Box Rec shows that Dean Byrne won 4 fights in the U.S.A in 2008. Three by KO. He was fighting at welter so the extra weight has obviously helped his punching power. I saw the McCullen fight Byrne completely outclassed him. He's a very good boxer. McCullen has done well for a bloke who only started in the pros at 29yrs. [now 33] He lacks a bit in technique but is always super fit. [ never give a sucker an even break ] We'll all be watching Byrnes career with interest. Another boxer who has got under the radar is Sydney super bantam Emmett Gazzard. He won an 8 rounder in the U.S.A. in November. I'd be interested to know what his plans are.

I always thought Emmett was from the Gold Coast. Stu Duncan is looking after him.
