Whether it be by slipping, ducking, parrying, counterpunching, moving - anything as long as it consistently worked in a fight to the point where the opponent's jab was completely neutralised.

I thought that Duran, never known as having a supreme jab, was extemely adept at rendering a good jab useless by using all of the defenses you mentioned. He had to, his short stature and style brought him to disdain the jab as an unnecessary distraction.

Whitaker, in his heyday, rendered every jab useless.

Tyson in just about all of his fights.

Tyson in just about all of his fights.

(let me finish this for you)

Tyson in the majority of his fights up until Spinks made jabs irrelevant because of his pee a boo defense and perpetual motion.

One that would never be thought of is Hearn's taking away Leonard's jab. Think about it, Leonard had quite a decent jab but against Hearn's height, reach, speed, right hand threat and superb jab it was almost non existent compared to other bouts. Leonard also did a fair job keeping Hagler's normally excellent jab below par, tho not nullified.

Max Schmeling against Joe Louis. Schmeling made the jab into a weakness in that fight.

Bruno, freakishly, neutralised Lewis' jab by outjabbing him.

The first example that popped right into my head was Muhammad Ali rendering Ernie Terrel's jab useless for 15 rounds.:good

Barney Ross had a great fast left jab. Cani could not get out of its way, as Ross was pop shotting him, McLarin found the jab just as hard to avoid. And Billy Petrolle got nail with for ten rounds in the rematchs.

It would seem no one had a answer for that left jab of Ross's??? Come in Henry Armstrong, Ross control the first 3 rounds of the fight with his left jab. But as the rounds wore on, Ross was missing his mark with the left jab more and more. Armstrong's head movement was good to make Ross miss, and than counter Ross with body head shots. By the ten round Ross was on the ropes takeing a beating. And by the 15round, Armstrong was over whelming Ross to head and body, the jab was no longer a factor. Armstrong took Ross's main weapon away with his shoulder and head movement, the left jab.

No sure if hitting and holding, and butting count...

If Pro boxing fights were only 1 round Bruno would never lose (!) poking his Liston like telephone pole out.

If Pro boxing fights were only 1 round Bruno would never lose (!) poking his Liston like telephone pole out.that jab was brutal lewis couldnt get by it so he had to be a fighter and actually have to beat him by being more fluid great pick.

toney i would say nullified every jab if you jabbed aggresively he would land a right hand and move back into position to use it again this happend for charles williams, barkely, nunn, holyfield every jab was an opening...similar to schmelling louis in which every jab joe through max landed a right cross

Louis vs Schmeling is a great example. Schmeling had that perfect counter and was able to do it succesfully all night long.

Ali vs Liston I is another. Although that was more based on speed and reflexes, he did completely neutralise Liston's jab, which is considered (not by me) as one of the best in history.

yeah many thought Ali would have trouble with the jab of Terrell. On paper it looks like he would (tall guy with long reach and a very good jab) but we know what happened in reality.

Terrell didnt relly used the jab. He just seem to charge in head first in that fight for some odd reason.

Yep. Perhaps intimidated by Ali's speed or even persona, Terrell's fighting skills vanished in front of our eyes.

nick wells over larry holmes due to nicks inside approach on larry.nick knew larry had a weapon with his jab and got in close to larrys trunks therefore eliminating larrys jab.this was done in the amateurs of course and done twice, with nick scoring kos in both bouts.
