[Only registered and activated users can see links] Hughes ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) and Matt Serra ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) have waited a long time to settle the beef that has brewed between the two since their participation as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter. The two men were supposed to settle their dispute last year when Serra was forced to withdraw due to injury. During that time both men lost fights to St. Pierre and Hughes was also soundly defeated by Thiago Alves ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). Those developments have taken some luster off of their once highly anticipated grudge match but I'm thinking fans will still find a way to get up for this one. Dana White first hinted a few days ago that the fight would occur over the summer and now Matt Hughes[Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) himself has confirmed a date. Below is an excerpt from the former UFC ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) champions official blog:
"Just got a call from Joe Silva and as of right now it looks like I'll be fighting Matt Serra in Vegas on May 23rd. This is not 100% confirmed, but I believe it is going to be on this date."

Serra's entire career is based on one punch; Hughes has either the best or, thanks to gsp, the second best career at welterweight.
Serra is gonna come out thinking he's Chuck Liddell, just like he did against GSP the second time and get easily taken down by Hughes who will proceed to put on one last legendary performance by being the better wrestler and the better grappler.
It will look a lot like Hughes vs Gracie.

I'm actually syked for this fight. They seem to genuinely not like one another...Hughes never had much respect for Serra....Hughes should be able to take this as long as he's cautious.

I seriously don't think Hughes, is a better grappler than Serra.
Do you talk about pure grappling, or mma grappling?
Pure grappling, Serra take it.
MMA grappling. its pretty equal, or a little edge to Serra, in my opinion.

yes...but Hughes is physically stronger, overall more athletic and experience is definitely on his end...Serra is a better striker. Given all that Hughes should be able to nuetralize his advantages.

Damn dude, come on. It won't be that bad.
I expect Hughes will be scared to death of losing this match, so I expect he'll work his takedowns and make sure he wins a decision. Hughes is on a steep down slope of his career. He's been beaten BADLY in his last two fights. They're both coming off of injuries, so who knows? I would be a lot more surprised if Hughes won like he did against Gracie than if Serra won.

Both no gi and mma, Serra would be at an advantage in a gi match though.
Hughes looked pretty damn good at adcc in a weightclass way above his normal 170; he was even with Tito until the ref did Tito a huge favor and made them restart with Tito having full control of one of Hughes' legs after going out of bounds.
In mma it's not even all that close; Serra has one sub in the UFC against Kelly Dulanty, whereas Hughes has subbed gsp, trigg, Riggs, and positionally dominated Royce, carlos newton, BJ Penn, Sakuri, and finished them with ground and pound; and has outwrestled and outgrappled Sean Sherk, and was at least even grappling wise with charuto

I'm with Beebs, I think Hughes takes this. Hopefully it's brutal and a war. They obviously hate each other. Serra knows how to talk shit aswell.
Even though this fight means fuck all now, I think they can both bring a lot of attention to the bout.

Its lost some of its interest as it never happened after TUF as planned. Due to there dislike for each other, it could be a interesting undercard fight.

Good point, Matt is better at position, and gaining control of opponent, but Serra is probably better to nullify other's strike on the ground, apart GSP.
His fight vs Penn is an exemple.
But I didnt know the thing of Hughes at adcc vs tito

Yeah, but that was all a long time ago. Serra did "better" against GSP in the second fight than Hughes did in the second or third. Prime for prime there is no comparison between Hughes and Serra, but even the Lytle fight he didn't look like he could do his thing anymore.

Hughes is gonna do horrible things to Serra. Serra will go for some sub attempts but will get mauled. Alot of people talk about Hughes getting stopped by GSP and Alves his last 2 fight and Serra knocking out GSP. But what alot of people don't get is that those were big 170 pound fighters. Serra may be a former 170 pound champ, but that doesn't make him a real 170 pound fighter. Matt is physically a much stronger man and Serra is gonna get hurt.
