Excellent preview Jeff. I said it the other day but you have a really good writing style.
Entertaining, punchy and well informed. Good mix of fact, opinion and questions that need to be answered.
It heightened my anticipation for the fight and ultimately that's the name of the game, surely. You did it without resorting to hyperbole, or glossing over the cons of both guy's careers.
I think a little more about how you think the fight might pan out, and the comparative physical/technical abilities of both guys, would have been the icing on the cake.
Where / how did you learn to write? I do a little bit for my job. It's a hell of a lot harder than people would imagine. You (well, I anyway) agonise over nearly every word and it's hard not to use the same phrases time and again. You have a really good variety.

That is exactly what I was aiming for with the article and the reason why I didn't go into the way the fight was going to pan out was because i'm pretty sure one of their more senior writers will be doing that later this week.
Whilst been an exceptional mathimatitian as a child, I actually struggled massively with my reading and writing until about the age of 13 at which time I began reading a magazine called Boxing News.
I had massive problems as a child and could seldom concentrate for more then a few minutes. In fact I have since been told by a nurse that I had all the symptoms of an ADHD sufferer, but it wasn't really recognized as an illness when I was a child.
I spent most English lessons staring in through the window of the classroom from the outside, after been kicked out for acting a tit. I came out of school with a D in English but once I discovered reading could be enjoyable, my skills as a writer improved immeasurably and now at work I produce all of the documentation, be it letters to clients, Method Statements, Risk Assessments etc... I like writing poetry too and also short stories but it has to be something I feel strongly about or my mind wanders.
I make many, many punctuation errors as I have never been shown how to correctly grammer a sentence but I usually pick up on the errors when I proof read. I'm still improving though so hopefully one day it may be something I get to cash in on... What better way to make money then doing something you love?

:D Thank you Mr Coldwell. I hope trainings going well. I'm sure you have a different opinion to mine and it will be a great result if you guys can pull it off, I just think its a very difficult fight for Lee. But he's got one of the best young trainers in the sport in his corner so who knows. :good

Thanks mate, appreciate that.
I totally understand what u saying tho, Lee is up against it and he knows it.
I've trained him since before his last fight and he is improving, he wants to learn...I was like u and plenty others who had heard plenty of what he's had to say, but never seen him fight.
Looking at records, this is a huge step up for him as Murray is a great talent. He has a very very good trainer in Joe and will be in great shape for the fight. I rate him highly but feel he's beatable, not a super talent as he's a little too hittable. Although his last fight against Meager was very impressive, best defensive showing he's had..and the attack was brutal.
But having Lee up close, working with him, he is very very keen to learn and despite all the talk, is willing to listen!
He is much better now he is focused, teaming up with Tommy Gilmour was a great move as Tommy suffers no fools.Lee is 100% focused and looks at this fight to prove himself, show people he isn't all chat.. he knows he hasn't fought any great names, but he knows what he's capable of.And we both know John is going to be in the toughest fight of his career. People could well be shocked at what they see next week. . We've had great sparring, his weight is fantastic, and what will suprise people is he's coming to wigan to knock Murray out.
He can be slippery, he will be slippery, but now its time to show people he can punch too.

He can definately punch, he caught me with a couple of good shots early on. He's just mixed with a lot of survivors.

my trainer sparred him afew times at the start of his career he said lee hit hard but he didnt KO people because he didnt seem to follow up with shots. he would hit you with maybe a hard 1,2 then move giving you time to recover just wondering if thats what you thought and if he is like that now.

murry will beat him,he has more skill and power than mcallister(only seen the last few fights of murrys, and the last one of mcallister),and mcalister has not that much power going off his stoppage rate, don't see how you can improve power at this stage in his career!
nice read jeff, shit you can spell as well

Without becoming a blatant arse kisser. I like Coldwells approach to the game- he's a realist. Your right he is a big plus and has that personal chemistry with his fighters that seems to be missing from the Ingle Camp. I just feel that Lee is a limited performer. He's a lovely boxer as you will no doubt see next weekend, but I'm not sure he has that extra something that Murray has..... This is a fascinating fight and i'm 1,000,000 percent going... If anyone fancies a catch up.

widdy have you saw murray vs al-haimedi
if mcallister boxes like that he will win and he is more than capable of it
murray is great in a brawl but against boxers he is 1 dimensional and boxes in straight lines

yes mate i did, haimedi is a horrible person to box,a right tough awkward bastard.
like i said before,i also watched macalister against melek, the world class polish fellow i think,Mmmmmmm, everyone has off days mate:good

Can't wait for this, won't be able to make it to the fight but i'm sure Lee will have a good support down for the fight.
Good fair article Jeff...
So Khan to face the winner? To be honest whoever does win this fight will be wanting a pop at the Euro title towards the end of the year too!

Great piece again Jeff. Really made me look forward to this fight, I quite fancy going (especially now local lad Dean Harrison's got the English title shot against Daws) but its a bit of a way from here and still feeling the pinch from Xmas.
As for the writing think we are quite similar (as in when I was at school I'd spend most my days staring out the window, had a short attention span etc) but I do enjoy writing some stuff, short stories, screenplays (I'm quite a big film fan and sort of self taught myself to write screenplays), things like that, but like you also it has to be something I'm interested in or that I can relate to. Actually been thinking about doing a bit of writing on boxing also lately, writing some pieces properly as at the moment all I do is post random illiterate shite on here when I'm supposed to be working lol, obviously not to your level but I've been thinking of maybe starting a boxing blog to get a bit of experience and a feel to it. I'm also the same punctuation wise (as people can probably tell) but once I proof read also those problems usually iron themselves out. Just wandered what you thought?
Also great to have more people from within "the game" (Curtis Woodhouse and Dave Coldwell). Without sounding like an arse licker i'm a fan of both (even though Curtis did play for Birmingham but we can forgive him for that!). Really liked the piece on Dave in Boxing News a while back, came across really well. Sorry though mate i'm an admirer of Murray so will be rooting for him Saturday lol.

I cant wait for this fight, its really building up to be a great!
i personally believe this a fight between the two most talented lightweight fighters in the uk currently. theres a hell of a lot to gain/lose from this fight, however i just have a wee suspicion that its gonna be mcallister who leaves with the belt.

I understand Lee has been fairly impressive in the build up to this fight and with Murray developing a reputation as an inconsistent performer you can't completely write off his chances, but I think Murray can win this fight by mid to late stoppage. I feel the fight will be competitive and McAllister's sharp shooting, slippery style will make things difficult for Murray early on but McAllister's fights have a propensity to turn into rough mauls once he begins to run out of steam and at this point in the fight the shorter punching Murray should take charge.
Jeff....... nail.........head

As for his tactics. He just ran out of steam. But he proved he belongs at that level something that I doubted before hand. Dave Coldwell has improved him massively. On that showing he is good enough to be British champion once Murray and Thaxton move on. I'd pick him over Lawton but agree with Billy Nelson that Limmond is a better fighter. Needs to be active this year.

the one asking if you could send your list of fights
i thought he let himself take abit too much punishment up close. He did run out of steam like you said though and that body shot didnt help.
would love to see lee fight alex arther like he said he wanted too

I'd like to see McAllister against anyone up there now.... He's got a good chance against anyone. The bluprint to beat him is set in stne though so he and Dave Coldwell will have to work on the mistakes he made to ensure he doesn't do it again. But Murrays a bit special and I wouldn't envisage anyone been able to pressure him quite that intelligently.

I like Lee's style in the ring and I like Murray's determination and power.
Mix the two and you have the perfect boxer IMO.
