Any word on who his interim fight will be? Hopefully someone decent.

So far he fought descent fighters only (considering the stage he was in).

I am aware of that. What I mean is the Sykes fight was a step down from Donald, Byrd and Chambers, I'd like him to fight someone of that caliber, preferably with a bit of a height and size advantage.

True but he did take a risk in that fight (if he lwould have lost it would have cost him his ranking. Same thing now so it may be another 'Taurs' next time.

You know I wish the Sauerland guys could make Povetkin vs Holyfield. Holyfield is coming off an incredibly controversial fight, but showed that he would still lose to a fast, active and mobile fighter. Povetkin would beat him easily, probably stop him, and in the process gain more notoriety with many Americans who think that Holyfield should be "the champ."

Povetkin-vs-Holyfield sounds good.
If he doesn't get Holyfield he should fight someone similar in size to Wladimir.

I like this fight White lion vs White wolf but it wont happen and reason for it is Liakovich has been inactive since his fight with Valuev. I though Liakovich was the big thing but his fight with Brewster was the highlight of his career and then we just witnessed fall of the champion. Too bad cuz that dude could punch.

Povetkin is in talks with Jason Estrada. The fight would take place on April 4th.

Seriously?
Estrada is a carbon-copy of Eddie Chambers except with a little less speed. I'd credit Big Six for taking on Povetkin at this stage.

My source is Rafael's notebook.

He should indeed fight somebody taller than him, so I'd rather see him fight a guy like Kali Meehan who is tall and experienced, but no real threat. Otherwise Bidenko or Skelton. They should give him a decent workout.

Before the Sykes fight, there was some talk of digging up Duncan Dokiwari

I'm wondering if Povetkin's inactivity is something that's been deliberately engineered in cooperation with Klitschko's people. Klitschko spokesman Berndt Boente said something to the effect that worldwide interest in Klitschko-Povetkin wasn't as high as hoped for, which points to marketing problems. Then there's the issue of Povetkin's relative inexperience...is he really ready to be thrown in with a monster like Vlad after only 16 pro fights?
All in all, I wouldn't be surprised if Klitschko and Sauerland decided to postpone this fight another year to make it more marketable and competitive.

I thought about that as well, but to generate more interest it would help if Povetkin fights in the US or maybe on the undercard of Klitschko against a credible opponent. Also the step up in class wil be enormous if Povetkin keeps fighting the Taurus Sykes's in the world and in the end Klitschko.

Don't believe they will put Povetkin against anyone who's a real challenge.
Povetkin vs Holy/Liakhovich/Estrada, are all nice fights but with small chances for an upset.

i agree. to build more interest, povetkin needs to fight a good fighter to make a statement....he won't do that fighting some handpicked can.
he needs to face a power hitter to erase some of my doubts....Peter or Arreola please. I think he'd beat arreola easily but Peter has a stylistic advantage over him in that povetkin like close combat.
i think the tree root injury was just a pretense...Povetkin is the only other top euro hw i like aside from the klits but he should go after the wba strap. I'm sick of valuev/chagaev/ruiz...they have hijacked that belt and are disgracing the division

Povetkin needs more than one tune-up fight to prepare for Vlad. I give him very little chance to beat Vlad. I hope Vlad does not destroy his career. He will lose the fight badly.

What about Dominic Guinn? He just had a few decent wins.

he needs a decent fight against a bigger guy...Austin,McCall, Shelton
Estrada?`??? I cant believe it! That American loser whose performance and statements at the olympics made the Americans look like lazy clowns will be Povetkin 's next opponent. Damn! I for one hoped that someone like Kahi Meehan or Timo Hoffman would be Povetkin's foe in his last test before he challenges Wlad.
Povetkin will school that average American from pillar to post stopping him after 5-6 rounds.
I even doubt that Estrada would beat someone like Mazikin at the pros.

Estrada has a good jab but is feather fisted. Povetkin will walk him down and stop him in the mid to late round's.

Also, Bidenko would give him a run that a big risk factor i dont think Povetkin would scrap with him no way.

Would you still be a fan of Povetkin, if he defeated Wladimir?:think

Tony Thompson is a good choice. Excellent style matchup for Povetkin and with height like Wlad in a live fight situation would be a great trial.
McCline is another possibility, although he has a ton of experience and can be a tough win when mentally right.

Povetkin is close to a title shot. His problem is Wlad is the man he must face. In a perfect world, we see Povetkin vs Valuev. I think it would be a good match. I also think Povetkin would face Wlad is he had a title to risk, which is a lot more than Valuev would dare.

If he is going to fight Vlad or Vitali he must take a shot vs Thompson, McCline,Bozwell, even OLeg or Peter but Austin (recent KO over Golota or Sultan would be a good fight...or fight Valuev (I think he can win) too green for Vlad or Vitali...but he must fight someone soon

povetkins fast but wlad is far to tall and has good straights and he has zero head movement so wlad could easily pick him off hes european class but never will be world champ
