Has fought nobody of note and is taking this fight on 2 weeks notice (according to boxrec).

Anybody have any info on him? Boxrec doesnt even have a height listed (but I believe he is around 6'3" ie big).

Batello reminds me of Asikainen.

Asikainen took the first Sylvester fight on few weeks notice, hadnīt met any big players before, was undefeated with good amount of KO victories.

Germans probably thought he would be overclassed, the fight would come way too early and soon for him. It didnīt.

Maybe they made the same mistake with Batello? I donīt think so though. I think Huck, unlike Sylvester, is a future world champion. He will crush Batello.

So Batello is in with a chance, but with that little prep time (and with his bad competition level), it is not a big chance?

Would you describe him as a live underdog?

Yes, anybody seen this chap in action at all? I suppose it is unlikely there is any film, but anybody caught him anywhere?

Any titbits of information would be really helpful. I'm interested to see whether he can upset the German applecart. I suppose they have him pegged down as no threat, padded record, late notice etc, and they must have researched him. I wonder about his ambition when he takes a fight at late notice, but maybe he's dangerous and he's not got the opporunities? :?

Good questions to ask indeed.

He has been staying fairly active, it must be noted. Last fought December 21st 2008 in an 8 rounder (TKO 4th round win). Maybe he wont be all that underprepared? :think

They contracted him as a sparring partner before, so they know each other very well. He seems to have impressed the management with an aggressive crowd-pleasing style - taylor made for Huck! Sauerland writes Batello is well trained and hungry (Source: Sauerland website).
Very active with a KO% of 83% but only 4 of his fights were vs. guys with a positive fight record. Never fought 12 rounds before. Number 31 in the independent ranking.
So he definitely did not earn his shot at the European title, but I think he is a good late replacement, will bring on a good fight!

I've seen him a couple of time live and on TV in Belgium... Bring the alarm for Huck, this dude has REAL power, especially with his right hand... His style is not very complicate, but he has great efficency!!! His biggest fight was against Bikoi (local derby in Liege, huge crowd) and he destroyed the guy in 2 minutes! Due to the fact that he is a one punch knockout artist (a real one, very rare specimen...) I give him 40% chances to beat Huck, who has of course more experience of high profile fight. Don't underestimate Battelo, the guy is dangerous and hungry!

(and by the way, he is more 6'1...)

Huck will put him to the canvas early. Batello is no threat for the kapt'n

Batello can punch. He had quite a lot of stoppages in the amateurs, although this was all at a Belgian level - hardly the olympics...

Axe, your inbox is full so I'll post here.

He only had 11, but he boxed much more experienced guys. His only titles are 2x Belgian national champion.

His record was 10-1 (9 KOs). Of these 7 were in the first two rounds. So he was definitely a puncher by amateur standards, but then Belgian amateur boxing is hardly top notch!

Thanks mate, ignore your last PM then.

I have this record for him as well off a site I frequent, I had thought he fought more than that as you said 'quite a lot of stoppages'. But I digress, thanks for the reply. :good

It's pretty hard to have lots of amateur matches as a heavyweight in Benelux. Not that many opponents around, so you have to travel to Germany or France. In any case, that is a very high stoppage percentage for an amateur.

18-1 now, and had he stayed with his jab, he'd won. But for some odd reason after dominating the first round withthe jab, he mailed it home.
Great uppercut. Both threw an uppercut, Huck's landed right on...kd...TKO 15 or so seconds later.
Huck was nervouse, becasue last year in Sparing with this guy, he got eaten up.
The Belgium guy was not too bad. But should have kept up with the jab.
Wagner played phyc games about him leaving his left out, so that was back minded, into not using his jab enough.

Apparently Huck will fight Firat Arslan next.

Early stoppage but the knockdown was nice.

Good fight, the Belgian showed himself to be decent and Huck is building quite the resume.
