The only top level anything he has ever had was that top level ass-beating Cotto gave him...

Since he put up a great fight against Cotto and had it pretty close until his stupid corner told him he was way behind which wasnt the case. If he would of boxed like he normally does it could of been a close decision. Plus he took the title away from Ndou who alot of people DUCKED including Ricky Hatton. How isnt he a top level fighter? He probably has the fastest hands in the junior welterweight division. And probably one of the best pure boxers in the junior welterweight division not to mention he has a very good chin.

i like paulie, the kid has what it takes to back up his talk...including a good chin....he lacks the power so i dont really know why he says he will ko chavez jr...ahaahahahahahaha chavez jr gots granite chin just like daddy.....
either way, i like it and atleast he's willing to fight...
He took the beating Cotto gave him like a man, plus he took care of N'dou.
He's nothing but an overrated bum who dyes his hair and wears attention-grabbing trunks to try and hide his deficiencies.
wow...
anyways.
The guy has got skill. is that evident by watching him?
ya... he got beat up by cotto... so what? he did a hell of a lot better then judah did, and hes young, hes still in the mix and nobody is saying hes elite, but to think hes not near the top is absurd imo.

I don't think too many people are calling him elite, are they? He's top 5 at 140 though.

I have nothing against Malignaggi but I'm kinda pissed that he doesn't seems interested in fighting Ngoudjo.
Of course it does help that Showtime told them that they wouldn't accept Ngoudjo as an opponent.
WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!
The guy had two tough competitive fights on HBO and ESPN. What more does Showtime want?!

How do you define "elite"? He's certainly not a pound-for-pound elite or a linear champ, but he's a top five guy in his weightclass right now.

Paulie has shown some skills, but getting beat by Cotto and handling 35 year old Lovemore N'dou hasn't quite sold me on him yet.

Can you name the posters who were saying that Malignaggi is an elite fighter? :think
Not because his name is being mentioned and discussed against big names doesn't mean he is an elite fighter.
Now get your shit together kid. :yep :yep :yep :yep
Nobody credible has called Malignaggi an elite fighter.
But he showed genuine toughness against Cotto and soundly beat N'Dou, who'd given Cotto his toughest fight to date.
It's one of those logical progression things. Whether Paulie ever attains elite status is up to his future performance, not critics basing judgement on his performance to date in a very young career.

I don't recall anybody saying Malignaggi was an elite fighter.....hell Cotto himself is just on the cusp of being an elite fighter.

Who are you talking about?I think he thought you were talking about an N'dou rematch.
Anyway Ngodjo looked good against Castillo(who then got raped by Ricky Hatton) and in the fight vs Bailey many people including myself think he lost.
He has no name in america excect for giving a faded Castillo a good fight............ And that's even if they remember that fight. Herman is better off trying to get a shot at Gavin Rees.

He got beat up by the 140 lb. weight drained version of cotto. The 147
lb version would've ended him. Paulie is an elite clubfghter and nothing more.

he lasted longer than Judah, I guess that would make him elite. Plus he 'outboxed' Cotto a couple of rounds with a broken jaw, ribs, spleen...you name it.
He's italian, he's metro, he's cocky and he has some skill. People will pay to see him get his @ss kicked.

have you seen clubfighters? have you actually gone to casinos and seen them? and your calling a top 5 in his weight class one? anyone who has eyes can see hes got boxing skills.
Some people dont seem to understand how good you actually have to be to win a fucking recognised title in boxing.
hes a good fucking boxer... is he elite? nobody has said that yet..
is he good? hell ya. is he a 'club fighter'
hell no

I believe that if Cotto was not as drained as he was Malignalli might not be boxing today because that beating would have been worse
I believe that if Cotto was not as drained as he was Malignalli might not be boxing today because that beating would have been worse
to be honest, i dont see why people bring that up, as if it should count AGAINST malignaggi
Isnt it then OBVIOUS that cotto is a LARGER fighter?
the fact that cotto would beat maligaggi worse at 147 is irrelavant, because... maligaggi is not a 147lb fighter.
so, imo... it doesnt matter.

:good I hated Paulie until the Cotto fight and the toughness and heart he showed made me a fan that night.

He may not yet be an "elite" fighter, but I think he could very well be on his way to becoming one if he just sticks to his game and dosen't try to "prove" himself anymore like he did against Cotto. Paulie seems to me to be a "purist" in that he's extremely good as a stick and move specialist with a "hit and don't be hit " ethic. If he stays within that style and to hell with the fans and the critics, he'll soon be an "elite" fighter. He needs to forget about the ko's and go for decisions and winning on points. That kind of style frustrates alot of "boxing fans", but with the damage done to a fighter's brain each time a punch connects, and the threat of acquiring brain damage after a career in boxing, he'll be using his head for something besides catching punches.

He's fast, he's extremely tough, and he has skills. He's not an elite P4P fighter by any stretch of the imagination, but he is an elite 140 pounder who could give anybody in the division trouble.

The only top level anything he has ever had was that top level ass-beating Cotto gave him...The Cotto fight was his first real step up and it was pretty close. Cotto won, but Malinaggi showed toughness and skill. Now he also has a belt...so ya, I guess you'd be right to criticize him with a stupid thread just because you don't like him and you're biased.
