This one gets a mention inthe "Billy Conn" thread, thought i'd open it up. But as well as a pick, riddle me this - if this fight somehow shared top billing with the up and coming Wright-Hopkins fight, which of the two fights do you think would look "more modern"?

Billy Conn is one of my heroes. I have an autographed picture of him hanging over my computer. But my gut instinct is that Tunney would of beat him. Would of been a great fight that's for sure.

Conn UD 10-5 - Conn has faster feet and hands, better combinations, both very skilled but Conn more skilled for me.

More modern? I think both have skills modern fighters could only dream of

Though Wright and Hopkins qualify, no? And also they are both very old fashioned wheras Tunney, especially, is years and years ahead of his time. I like the contrast.

Conn 10-5 ?
Tunney fought a much faster opponent in Harry Greb and he did pretty good considering Greb is arguably the number one middleweight of all time.

I would favor Tunney on this one. Not only because I put his avatar up, but the guy was just incredibly smart. Plus he was not necessarly a boxer with high level of skills like Dempsey of Greb.
Tunney UD Conn. Probably a 9-6 scoring, with Tunney giving up the earlier rounds to establish a proper strategy and coming back into the middle of the fight to box and score in a very unapreciated chess match (at the time it was not pretty popular).

This is a great match up.Conn was quicker of hand and foot, and manuevered around the ring better.Tunney has the edge in power and strength, but of course those advantages didn't keep Billy from giving Joe Louis all kinds of hell. Billy didn't win that one , but Tunney didn't have the explosiveness of Louis, and Billy just might have been able to flurry and move his way to a unanimous decision.

One thing's for sure, this would be a boring fight.

One thing's for sure, you are a fucking idiot. you ought to leave esb and go become a gay prostitue.

Tunney would win on points or a late stop, there would be some good exchanges both men were fast, Tunney hit harder and was faster but Billy would get in his share to make a good fight out of it

I think there might be a lot more fireworks than you are predicting here.

Both these guys were quite happy to mix it up on the inside with opponents who tried to play cute.

Tunney for me imo he was a bigger ,better version of Billy so I must go with the Marine.

This is not entirely fair. Conn was to my mind faster and did a lot of things better.

Size wise you are correct. Conn was little more than a super middleweight while Tunney was more a natural cruiserweight.

Conn may have the edge in speed ,what things do you think he did better than Tunney?

Tunney ,s best weight was 190,at that he was ripped ,Conn weighed 169 when he fought Louis in the first fight ,though his weight was announced as 174,Louis dried out to come in below 200,and partly blamed that for his sluggishness in the early rounds,Conn, though he may have been a shade quicker had nothing over Tunney in mobility and his power was inferior.
