Anyone fancy Calzaghes chances up at Crusierweight?
Light Heavyweight Chad Dawson beat the current NO 1 at Cruiserweight.
Joe Calzaghe is the current NO 1 Light Heavyweight in the World.
It probaly wont happen..........but what if Calzaghe prolonged his career and took a fight for one of the Crusierweight titles.
Do you reckon he would have a chance against the Worlds top Crusierweights?
In the Multi choice poll I will post above I have selected some of the Worlds top Crusierweights
Please select the fighters you are confident Calzaghe can beat at Cruiserweight
If you dont think Calzaghe would beat the fighter then dont vote on that fighter.
Poll will close in one day from opening !!!!!!!!!!!

Forget about it. Joe up at 200lbs? Puhlease. Even a guy like Jones would wipe the floor with him at 200lbs.

What major attributes do you think he'd lose at Cruiser?
Maybe the weight wouldn't be a problem because he actually walks around heavier than Enzo Mac.

This is a common rumour. Joe always makes 168 comfortably. I very much doubt he looses 30 plus lbs to make 68. In between fights he doesnt look like anything even close to 200lbs let alone heavier than Enzo. Joe just doesnt have the power size or style to trouble any cruiserweight up at 200lbs.

I think he would have a chance and I think his style could work at cruiserweight.

I agree it would be a disaster really but the rumours apparently are true according to Enzo himself as strange as it seems. Calzaghe is thicker set than Enzo, Enzo seems quite thin in person.

He is hittable as well - OK his chin is very good, but has been decked/hurt in each of his past three fights.
Stay at 175 or retire.
These I would give him a better than fair chance:
Cunningham - No power. I'm sure even a slower Calzaghe that had lost speed at cruiserweight would be fast relative to these guys. I think he'd outbox this guy.
BJ Flores - Likewise. No great power to worry about, also a runner and a spoiler.
Enzo - Calzaghe sparred him many times. He'll know Enzo inside out, every quirk in his style, and overall he's by far the classier operator. He would have a good chance...but if he gets hit by a bomb it may be over.
Fragomeni - Not a puncher. I think he'd outbox this very basic and small cruiser. He's double tough so Calzaghe would have his work cut out and would have to rely on good movement.
Bell - Nothing left. Nothing. Can't get his punches off.
The others are big punchers that I could see landing, I wouldn't like to see that for Calzaghe at his age.

Calzaghe is thicker set than Enzo, Enzo seems quite thin in person.Enzo is what we call in basketball a "Tweener". He`s far to big for 175 but he`s too small for cruiser. Enzo made the old limit with room to spare. When the limit went up much like Braithwaite he should have hit the weights and filled out his body so he was/is a solid cruiser. This would certainly help his power even more so with the added mass and physical strength. As for Joe weighing 200lbs il NEVER believe that. In between fights Joe only looks about 10lbs above his fighting weight if that. Hopkins went up 15lbs. The difference is very notable in his frame. Why isnt Joes inbetween fights? Il tell you why because its nothing more than BS spin from Joe and his dad. Remember when he said he couldnt make 168 anymore? He had a fight scheduled with David Telesco. For one reason or another the fight never happened up at 75. Subsequently Joe went back to 68 and stayed there for the rest of his career bar Hop and Jones.

I remember him saying he often walks around at 13st 8lbs, quite a bit below 14st 4lbs - I was 13st 10 a year ago, now 12st 13lbs - the difference is massive.
Im sorry but i couldnt even pick a fighter that Calzaghe would beat in my eyes.
IF Calzaghe fought any of the fighters i think his speed and skill MAY give them problems, but it would only be for a few rounds.
Calzaghe isnt big enough to fight the guys at Cruiserweight.
Its like saying Hatton who walks around at about 170? could compete with a top ten rated super middleweight.

Joe reckons he walks around nearly 2 stone above his weight? Then like iv said already why dont his pictures indicate that inbetween fights?

Hatton wouldn't walk around at 170 if he wasn't a boxer IMO. He just lets himself go stupidly.
I like a pint and a pizza, but wouldn't binge the way he does.
He would walk around about 155-160 ish I'd say.

I wouldn't say 2st no, but as he is taller, he can hide it better than say, Ricky Hatton, who is a short ass like me!
I would give him at least a stone, but not 2, no way.

calzaghe wouldnt be big enough for cruiser
hes a natural super middle, i dont think hes half as good at lighht heavy as he is at super middle, cruiser he would be pretty bad.

I would give him at least a stone, but not 2, no way.Thats nonsense. it doesnt matter how tall or short you are an addition of a stone let alone 2 stone is VERY noticeable.

Two stone on a taller (and naturally heavier) guy is less noticeable than the same on a smaller person - nature of physics!
As I said, I don't believe he puts on two stone - though he probably gets into the ring at 180 as a SMW.

I don't think he's big or strong enough to beat a decent cruiser.
I do think he has a deceptive frame, though. He doesn't look that big but when he made 175 against Jones Jr, he did look fairly cut up.
He claims to be a guy who eats crap and has a few beers outside training so I can see him walking around up towards 14 stone, but I don't think that means much when you fight guys who are in fighting shape at 14 stone, which Calzaghe clearly wouldn't be.

He walks around at about 195, you never really see him at it coz he's never about unless he's training or immmediately after a fight. You can see it at the Haye-Enzo fight and on Johnathon ross show, he's thick set.

Only cruiser i think he could have any sucess with would be Fragomeni. Should stay at LH or retire.

Joe relies a lot on outworking his oponents and outspeeding them. At 200+ lbs I think both of these qualities would take a big hit.

Please have one more fight, get knocked out, and then retire :good

David Haye and Wlad Klit are the only two fighters in the world I favour over Calzaghe.
Powerful with just enough speed to catch Joe.

I have heard on more than one occassion that Joe Calzaghe walks around at 14 stone.

If his chin and speed held up at the higher weight I'd give him a 50/50 chance againest most of the top guys at CW.
