I am working with Roy Williams on a book, no he is not in jail for murder and many of the stories about him on the web are false. I'll keep you guys posted

Please do. I remember reading in Larry Holmes' book that he remembered Williams as one of the most bitter men he ever met. In fact, Williams was fighting one day, and Holmes was cheering him on. Williams turned to Holmes and screamed "SHUT THE FUCK UP!"

Great news! One of the great things about boxers like Roy, who brushed shoulders (and traded punches with) legends is that they tend to be much more accurate and honest than the legends themselves. Roy Williams had an amazing life and it would be a great book to read, I'm sure.

Very obscure, very interesting. Was Roy Williams the man who Ali sparred with in the rumble in the jungle? Was the rope-a-dope invented in the gym?

Williams was a feared man, a poor man's Sonny Liston if you will. He might have some interesting things to say about the fighters in the 1970's, the business of boxing, and the Shavers fight.
