These fights being on pay per view is a disgrace. Mayorga and Vargas forgot when they last won a fight (both coming off knockout loses) and the are 5 years past their primes (even in their primes they were not so good). Why should I give my hard earned money to the pocket of an idiot named Mayorga who is a club fighter and respects nobody.
As for Jones-Trinidad: Jones is a disgrace for ducking Glen Johnson and fighting a guy two divisions below him who lost every minute of every round in his last fight to a 160 pounder. Both are also 5 years past their primes. Jones earned so much money for fighting bums in his career, so he doesn't deserve neither our hard earned money, nor our respect.
I know a lot of people will still buy the fights but if I convinced one guy here not to buy them, it was worth starting this thread.

Im definatly gonna see Vargas/Mayorga. This promises to be a slugfest, much more entertaining than either of this years "big" fighter dlh/pbf bhop/wink.
i watch boxing not to just watch p4p'ers run around the ring, i watch to see fights. Vargas vs Mayorga should be a good fight between two former champions, and is the last fight of vargas's career, so most vargas fans should get it.
Also... as for Vargas vs Mayorga, they didnt want to put it on ppv, but there are no available time slots on tv.
If you were Roy, and stood to make more money to fight Tito then Glen, you'd fight Tito too...or you're a damn fool. Besides, just cause you don't wanna see the fights doesn't mean anyone else wouldn't. Go protest global warming or somethin.
Not really.
Theres a lot of fighters that would try to avenge a defeat then go after a payday. They are the warriors of the sport.
Mosley, he could have fought Hoya for another mega payday and lets be real, he beat him twice already why not a third time... instead he fought winky.

:huh Have you ever seen Vargas fight in his prime?
I'd go for the easy pay day and then revenge. Glen isn't going anywhere. yes man you are right... that would be a better idea.
Not every interesting fight has to be between two great fighters at their absolute best. I like watching a competitive fight, between two talented boxers. boxing is about proving who is the absolute best - Tough man in the world, so even if these two fights don't mean a thing to the P4P ranks, the people involved make it interested. 4 once good, entertainnig fighters meeting eachother in the ring.
Honestly, boxing doesn't have to be taken to seriously. It's just fun. Sit back and enjoy 4 men prove themselves against other top class fighters and stop worrying about the state of boxing or whatever.
By the way, Kirk, are you off to the Vargas fight, mate?

I'm definitly going to watch both fights, i'm especcially interested in mayorga Vargas, that could be an all out war.
But i won't spend a penny on it, only bandwith.

Have a nice time, man :good
Should be a good fight. Regardless of who wins, I hope he looks good. I like both men and think they are good for the sport. I doubt they both look good, but it'd be great if they did.
If Vargas sorts his self out, I'd like him back in the 154lbs division, though that isn't too realistic.

Bhop-Winky was boring from when the fight was announced.
 I hear ya! That is about the only fight that was available to me that I didn't order in at least the last year or so (I even ordered Briggs/Iggy). I'm always glad to watch fighters fight, but there does seem to be a sort of old timers circuit pay per view thing in full force lately, possibly off the #'s PBF/Oscar pulled. All that can be asked is that if pay per view is the only way to get your show out there, 1 make damn sure to be exciting, 2 put on a good undercard ffs, and 3 if you're a part of the "old timers or rich boy clubs" try to not let the fight apear as if you're not trying to hurt one another. It is always a shame when fights barely suitable for ESPN become PPV.While one has to pay to see Jones Tito and Mayorga Vargas, Taylor and Pavlick will be shown free on HBO.But if enough people spend on these frivilous , meaningless PPV events, how long will it be before any title fight or elite match up will be 50 bucks or more?

I agree paying to see any of these guys is ridiculous. These guys should be fighting on HBO or Showtime not on PPV.

What does a guy who's scared of taking on an opponent who might hurt him, but who wants to face a big name gut who'll look good on his resume do? Why, if he's Roy Jones Jr., he fights a shot, shopworn shell of a guy who just has a name, like Tito Trinidad, that's what!! Trinidad is going to end up just like Wilfred Benitez, or maybe like Gerald McClellan by not knowing when to quit. If Winky humiliated and outclassed him, what does he think will happen to him against Jones? Jones is too big and fast even at this stage of his career to worry about Tito, and this looks like an ugly mismatch as far as I'm concerned. Both guys should quit now, or else be tragic human interest story of the future.

I'm not buying Vargas-Mayorga, but maybe I'll buy Trinidad-Jones because both are future hall of famers and big names.

Im buying both and cant fucking weight. If history has shown us anything its that often times when past their prime fighters fight each other the fights usually end up to be brawls.

obviously, they would have liked to get it free... in all honesty when fights are less then blockbusters, all parties involved usually get MORE out of showing them on HBO and Showtime for free. in this case (Vargas/mayorga) they didnt have that chance.
Roycott must be back in effect...:yep
I'll be buying Vargas-Mayorga for sure it can't be worst then B-hope-Winky. Ill see bout Tito-RJJ.

The Mayorga-Vargas fight should be entertaining even if both guys are far removed from their best. I thought it had a couple decent undercard fights as well so that ppv could be worth getting. Although the very next week is the Marquez-Juarez card. That main event is not nearly as good as Mayorga-Vargas but it looked to have a better undercard.
The thing that worries me about Jones-Trinidad is that I have a feeling it could be very one-sided. As much as I respect Tito for going after the big fight/fighters like he always has. I think he's made a mistake in taking on Jones after such a long layoff and at a weight well above one he's fought at before. Not sure yet but I see Trinidad in for a very tough night.

You're not seeing the big picture Kirk. There's s reason that DLH did'nt land fights with Mosely and Trinidad.
DLH was a manipulator. Even in defeat, he looked upon Mosely and Trinidad as peons out of work that he was doing them a favor.
DLH made them offers intended to be turned down. He did'nt want to look the part that he was the one who really did'nt want the fights.
Both Mosely and Trinidad had the diginity enough as persons to not let DLH manipulate their earnings on a big stage event where each before had the upper hand on him.
The Mosely rematch was made only because at that point Mosely was coming off of losses, and Mosely no longer had the bargaining chip power he did prior to those losses.
In that case, Mosely had the intelligence to know that a win against DLH after losses to Vernon Forrest, would get him right back to being able to earn quality money at a big stage event.
It was the correct business move for Mosely.
Lets get real here, DLH fights who the damn well he pleases.
Why after not being able to win a big fight against a true peer is beyond me, but he still manages to pull off and fight who he really wants to fight.
If there's a fight that has'nt come about for DLH, its come from his own doing. If there's a fight that has'nt happened involving DLH, its because he does'nt want that particular fight.
Ray Leonard lost to Roberto Duran, and the orders were to get Roberto Duran and offer him what ever it took to get him right back in the ring as soon as it was humanly possible.
Leonard throughout his career had the clout to get any fight he wished, the same went for DLH, so if either fighter did'nt get a fight its because they did'nt want the fight.

I wont buy either one.
Im actually going to both of them!!!! :smoke
I'll probably buy both of them.
These fights are better than most PPV's in that their intriguing fights that can go either way.
When you take into account where each fighter is in their career, these are even matchups!
Nothing wrong with these PPV's!
I believer that true boxing fans will relent and but Vargas-Mayorga, and Don King knows how to promote a show, even the casual fan will probably tune in and shell out money for Trinidad-Jones!
